My Primal journey began in the spring of this year when I found MDA and got my copy of the Primal Blueprint, and continues to this day. I had been following Movnat for over a year and I understood the concept of dieting, and exercising, in a way that mimics our hunter-gatherer ancestors, but had not found any tools to point me in the right direction towards a lifestyle that made such perfect sense to me. The Primal Blueprint gave me what I was looking for and so much more. I am happy to have lost weight and gained strength and endurance, but what I was not expecting was the all-encompassing lifestyle that the book laid out for me. I am healthier than ever. I can interpret the signals that my body is sending me appropriately, and as a result, I continue to do what is right for my body. The aspects of Primal living that defy modern conventional wisdom are the things that come naturally to me! I love getting plenty of sunlight and feeling good about it! I have been shocked at how mild seasonal allergies have disappeared. My whole life I have always thought: “At some point in our history, we didn’t wear shoes, and were just fine. We didn’t take anti-histamines… because we shouldn’t be allergic to the world that we live in. You don’t see a whole lot of tigers with the sniffles…” and other things of that nature.Read More

In March of 2010, I went to my sister’s wedding, and had a great time. When I got home, I saw the pictures and was horrified. Over the past five years, I had put on a lot of weight, and I was at the heaviest I had ever been. I wanted to do something about it, but I felt like I failed at every diet I tried.Read More
Who doesn’t love a good success story? I know I do. It’s a large part of what keeps me and this blog going day in, day out. And anecdotes matter. They add further credence to the Primal Blueprint, they have the power to inspire and they give us all a little insight into how others are living their own Primal lives. If, after reading these success stories, you’re jonesing for more, check out the success stories pages on Mark’s Daily Apple or the success stories category. I used to be a frustrated 178 pound, 5’7″ tall female. I’d had some success with programs like Weight Watchers and Alli in the past, but they were always short-lived. After awhile on those programs, I got hungry and I got tired of depriving myself of food. So I ate. And I gained weight. Even though I was logging in my running miles nearly every day, I could not lose weight without major dieting.Read More

Hey there Mark!!!
Well for me it starts around Christmas of 2009. I was topping the scales at 339 lbs, I had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few years earlier and taking several medications to help control it. Despite eating like the dieticians recommended I kept putting on more weight. I stayed sick constantly, never felt like doing anything and was just in generally bad health and I was only 36. I was so disgusted with myself when my mom gave me some money at Christmas to buy some clothes and I couldn?t find anything in my size.Read More

In July 2005, at just eighteen years old I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. At first I suffered just a few sharp sternum pangs, but a couple of months later this spread to my lower back. I was prescribed Diclofenac to ease the pain. Unfortunately over time both the pain and subsequent medication increased. In July 2010 I was suffering from pain in my sternum, lower back, upper back, right shoulder, wrists, feet, heels and legs. My body was constantly throbbing with pain and in the crueler winter months I had been known to use a walking stick on occasion to assist me around the house. I was unable to run, walking was always met with pain and life was becoming more painful and less enjoyable. The restriction in movement and exercise, coupled with the inflammation of the joints, meant that I put on about three stone (42 pounds) in weight from 2005 until 2010. This exacerbated the situation and didn’t do much for my self confidence. At this point I was taking an all time high amount of medication. Each day I would take a cocktail of two 200 mg Celecoxib tablets and eight 30/500 mg Co-codamol tablets. This was supplemented with a weekly 20 mg injection of Methotrexate – a drug that is used in larger quantities as an anti-cancer drug.Read More
