My first MDA Success Story was published in June 2016. Towards the end I said “My story isn’t over. It is just beginning.”
Those words couldn’t be more true.
That success story was about overcoming decades of chronic cystic acne, along with digestive issues and anxiety.
And the Primal lifestyle truly helped me to accomplish all of that. After decades as a vegetarian, pescetarian, and sometimes raw vegan, making a gradual transition to a Primal diet really changed my life.

My story is not one of miraculous weight loss or diseases cured, but I have experienced great relief from autoimmune conditions such as eczema, endometriosis and celiac. Primal found me when I was not particularly looking for it, but it has ended up changing the lifestyle of my entire family.
I gave birth to my first child in October of 2010. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease in 2009, so had been eating gluten free for quite some time. However, I had embraced gluten free products such as GF breads, cereals and granola bars not realizing that they were probably making me feel much worse. I thought, like many pregnant women do, that the high carbohydrate, low fat diet I was following throughout my pregnancy would help stave off the frequent nausea and hunger pangs I was undergoing.

We live in a stress-filled world. Poor quality nutrition, toxic chemicals, xenoestrogens, EMFs, blue-light, deadlines, and traffic have us competing for our health. But on March 20, 2011, life got much more stressful than I could have ever imagined.
That particular day, I found myself in an ICU bed after recently being hit by a series of large vehicles. I recalled crossing a busy street in Traffic Nation, a.k.a. Los Angeles, where I was unexpectedly hit by a Land Rover headed west. The force of the blow threw me into the eastbound lane, where I was then run over by a Toyota Tundra. Needless to say, my world was rocked.

In 2011, I sold a house, “right-sized” my life, and moved to a neighboring state. It was a nutty year that eventually involved TWO moves within 6 months, a stressful daily commute that kept me on a notoriously bad highway for at least two hours a day, and, to top it all off: menopause!
After reading all of that, would you believe me if I told you that this was a good move?? Well it was definitely difficult…but also definitely worth it for the many things that I gained…
Unfortunately, I also gained 80 extra pounds over that first year and the next. Ugh!

Hi, my name is Ania and I’m an ex-Standard American Dieter.
Although I understood many health concepts and ate a notch above the average person, I still had an affinity for Doritos, frosting filled donuts, and white bread. I knew that I should eat healthy, but I didn’t truly understand why. I didn’t connect the way I felt to the food I ate.
Then one day, I got sick.
And we’re not talking a cold…months of fatigue, dizziness, nerve pain. Lyme, Fibromyalgia—these are things my doctors mentioned with more or less a conclusion of “Sorry, not much we can do.”

I’ve always had an interest in health. I entered college to become a nurse, but switched majors after marrying young and starting a family, ending up with a degree in education with an emphasis in health. My first love is my family, and it’s because of my responsibility for their well-being that healthy living continues to be a growing passion in my life.
In my twenties, breastfeeding babies and chasing toddlers kept me fit and thin, and I exercised when it fit my busy schedule. Low fat, high carb foods were the staples of our “healthy” diet, and I was just trying to figure out my way around the kitchen.
