My name is Joe I’m 30 years old and have been primal/paleo/Keto for two years now. I have lost over 80 pounds and it has changed my life. I grew up in a small midwestern town Sterling, Illinois. I was an active kid playing every sport there was, Soccer, basketball, football, track and field, wrestling, cross country, and roller hockey. Despite doing all these things I gained weight I was the fat kid from a very young age. I didn’t really understand it because I didn’t feel I was doing anything different than my friends or brother. My brother is 1 year and 6 days younger than me so naturally we participated in many of the same activities and ate similar diets. He was always skin and bones and I was bigger and I just figured that’s how it’s going to be.

Today’s amazing success story is offered up by a special guest: Bailey Ryan, a.k.a. Paleo Bailey—health blogger extraordinaire, paleo food writer, and personal health coach. She’s joining us today to share how she found Mark’s Daily Apple, lost 125 pounds and claimed a new life in the process. Be sure to check back tomorrow, too, when she shares one of her favorite Primal-friendly recipes—a comfort food dish that’s perfect for this weekend’s family dinner. I’m thrilled she’s joining us today.
At 22-years-old, and just 7 pounds shy of 300 pounds, I was completely miserable. I was out of breath just walking into work, had started avoiding any social or family gatherings, and was completely out of control with my binge eating. I knew that this couldn’t be how my life was meant to be lived, and I knew I would be dramatically shortening my life by continuing down the path I was on.

I called my sister after a backpacking trip last September to tell her I had felt amazing tromping around the picturesque Colorado wilderness with a heavy pack on for several days. I was overjoyed because I had not felt amazing backpacking or otherwise throughout most of my life. She responded by saying, “Isn’t it amazing to feel your limitations melt away?”
I have been an outdoor enthusiast my entire life. Throughout my teens I enthusiastically planned multi day backpacking trips, and as I moved into my 20s I started “bagging” the 14,000+ peaks in my home state of Colorado. However, despite my love of nature and outdoor adventures, these feats were always more challenging for me than my peers. This fact frustrated me and for a long time I thought I just needed to push myself more athletically. However, as I’ve learned over the past few years, I actually needed to change my diet.

In the past, even though on the outside I was British size 8 (American size 0) on the inside I was skinny fat with numerous health problems. I was sick of feeling sick all the time. Constant migraines, bloating, cold after cold, yeast infections, low energy levels and lack of concentration. were all I knew at that time. In fact, I was most probably on my way to become another victim of modern diet type 2 diabetes. Finding the Primal/paleo/keto way of living allowed me to reverse all my health problems.

I don’t often receive video success stories, and when I do it doesn’t always work out to share them on the blog. That said, today’s video fits the bill in every way. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. These stories always make my week.
Hi Mark, I know you have a thousand success stories a day, however I just thought you might enjoy this one today. I firmly believe that part of overcoming my addiction to alcohol and drugs was changing my diet through the Primal way of eating. The video below is my story of how I beat the odds, overcame addiction and prison, and now help others to adopt this “awesome” way of living.

Growing up I was always very energetic and athletic but had a very high metabolism so weight gain was never an issue. Really didn’t start gaining weight until I moved to Florida 5 months before joining the military. I joined the military in 2007 when I was 21-years-old and at this point had gained some extra weight. For the Air Force I believe the cutoff for a height of 5’10 was 191 lbs, and I remember my recruiter putting me on the fat boy program a month before joining because I was within 10 lbs of that cutoff. That was a very high weight for me, I don’t ever remember being more than 150 lbs before then. I got out of basic training at 21 years old in worse shape by a mile then I am now.
