Let me introduce myself. My name is Mark Sisson. I’m 63 years young. I live and work in Malibu, California. In a past life I was a professional marathoner and triathlete. Now my life goal is to help 100 million people get healthy. Welcome to the All-New Mark’s Daily Apple!

Welcome, everyone, to the redesign of Mark’s Daily Apple!

If you watched the video you know the basics already, but here is a more thorough introduction to the new site.

We really did outgrow our old site. Loyal MDA readers wanted more ways to connect with me and the community so I’ve tried to incorporate some elements into the site that help facilitate this.

There are so many things that have been updated! I’ll try to be brief and just touch on some of the more important changes.

[UPDATE: Existing newsletter subscribers will be sent the confirmation email over the course of the entire week. If you are an existing newsletter subscriber and don’t want to wait to for the Free Introduction to The Primal Blueprint and want to ensure you get this week’s newsletter go ahead and enter your email address Weekly Newsletter Subscribe box in the sidebar and you’ll get the confirmation link immediately. Thanks, everyone!]

– Starting at the top. As I mentioned I ditched the old cartoon image of me in exchange for photos of me living the Primal lifestyle. Whenever you refresh the page a new photo will load. I hope the photos inspire you to get out there and stay active. If a 55 year old dude can stay fit so can you. I’ll plan on updating these fairly regularly so stay tuned.

– I’ve added the forum back. Many early MDA readers may remember that we originally had a forum. There were a number of reasons why I ended up removing it, but needless to say I think the community is robust enough now to fully appreciate a forum based around the Primal Blueprint and everything related to health and fitness. I hope you all take advantage of the forum to share your ideas, success stories, recipes, workouts and experiences relating to the Primal Blueprint.

– Next, jumping over to the sidebar: There are three ways to subscribe to MDA content now: by subscribing to the Weekly Newsletter, by subscribing to our RSS feed, and (at the bottom of the page) by subscribing to each day’s post via email. Just click the “Feeds” tab at the top of the page for more information on all of these ways to get MDA content delivered to you.

By the way, if you sign up for the newsletter now you will receive the complete introduction to my new book, The Primal Blueprint, for free. If you’ve already signed up for the newsletter there is no need to sign up again, but, as I mentioned in the video, you do need to click on the link in the confirm email you will be receiving today. Once you do you will the get the introduction delivered to immediately and will begin to receive all the new features I’ve added to our newsletter.

Ok. What else do we have?

Well, I’ve also addressed some of the navigation shortcomings found on the old site. To make a long story short you can view every post ever published on MDA by clicking “Site Map” at the bottom of the page. Search Results are now truncated versions of the post instead of full posts. Archives are now organized by category and date. And we now have a nifty “Top Posts” section that will highlight the latest and best the site has to offer.

There are a few more notable sections in the sidebar. “Mark’s Daily Apple TV” will be the go-to place for our latest videos. I’ll be putting up Primal related videos here. Sometimes they will be from around the net, but I do plan on creating my own on a more regular basis in the future so stay tuned.

The “Connect with Mark” section provides a way to stay in touch with me personally. Join me on Facebook and Twitter.

“Sites Mark Visits” is a rotating blogroll. Every time you refresh the page this list will update, so keep coming back for more of my favorite sites.

“Grok in the Wild” is a Flickr photo stream of members from the MDA community sporting the “Grok On!” t-shirts. I just released these shirts. They are American Apparel shirts and feature our new Grok logo. Send me a pic of you acting like Grok in one of our t-shirts and I’ll add you to the stream.  And check out the pics. Son of Grok and others have already sent in photos of themselves Getting Primal.

Some other features include the ability to email and share a blog post with others by clicking “Share This” and also the ability to print out a printer-friendly version of a blog post.

Lastly, the comment section has been improved. You can now add an avatar to all of your comments and you can reply to specific comments. Test it out to see how it works.

If you poke around you’ll also find information on Primal Nutrition products including my book The Primal Blueprint.

Apart from the design changes I also have some great new content up my sleeve that I plan to roll out soon, so check back daily.

      1. Love your site. I am a nutritionist and mma fighter and your sit has been beneficial to bot my passions. keep up the good work. also the changes to the site are great.
        Jerry
Would love to wear this shirt to my next primal lecture on the 30th. also if you have any brochures on your company for me to give out that would be great.

  2. Mark,

New format looks great. I see no problems. As a professional kickboxer, I use the tips found on your blog often in order to maximize my strength for my size, and maintain a diet that will keep me fighting fit. Thanks for the hard work and keep on Grokin’.

  3. The actual site looks even better then the screen shot you were circulating last week. I’m really excited to jump into the forum and starting sharing with other people!

  4. Thanks for the early comments, everyone. There are still some kinks we are working out. The Top Posts section is a little wonky. Bear with us! Thanks again!

    1. I like the new look. Couldn’t find the recipe section, though. And took me a while to figure out how to comment.

  5. I love the new site! Of course that was expected. I like the “Psst…don’t miss these” at the bottom of the page. As I have said before I like all of the ways you bring old posts to my attention to review and refresh my mind. I will have to play around a bit to determine my favorite part though.

Lastly, Modern Forager and IF Life are still listed as separate blogs, instead of the new and fabulous LifeSpotlight. The links take you there, but the names just need to be updates.

Awesome job to everyone involved in this life altering site!!!

  6. Mark,

I enjoyed the old site but the new design is nice and fresh.

    You’re an inspiration.

    s.

  7. Mark,
Love the new design, really clear and simple. Well done for taking it to the next level.

  8. The new design is awesome but the shirts are amazing — are they going to be available in the store eventually?

  9. Hi Mark,

as I already said: it was about time to get a new design. I really like it: it’s fresh, stylish and functional.
One thing I would suggest is to make the articles on the front page shorter stubs oder previews of the whole articles. IMO this gives a better overview of recent posts and keeps the reader interested.

But maybe that’s just my personal preference

  10. Great job on the site!

I’ve been following your blog for the past 6 months and you’ve helped me open my eyes to the real way that food works for (and against) our bodies.

Since I’ve went on a primal diet. I’ve lost an additional 12 lbs and 12% body fat (now 158 lbs). I’ll be 36 in three days I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m going to compete at the World Braziian Jiu-Jitsu Championships the first week of June with my newfound body and stamina.

Take care and thank you for all your efforts.

  11. Love the new design, great to have different photos of you and very glad the forum is back… onwards and upwards 🙂

  12. Mark, great job on the new format of your website. I have been following your advice for over a year now and as a healthcare provider I must tell you that you are spot on Big Pharma, the medical system in general, and the Primal nutrition facts that you have provided to the public. I must admit that I get on my soap box every chance I can to promote the views of Primal Nutrition even when it means not making a sale. I am very thankful for your honesty and integrity in spreading nutritional information defying all the slick marketing out there. Grok on and live well.

  13. Love the redesign. I’ll be coming here often. (And I would totally wear that shirt!)

  14. Mark,

Looks awesome. I like the photos instead of the cartoon!

Things are a lot easier to find. I got a couple of errors at first, but they seem to be gone, now!

    Can’t wait for the book! I hope I win a shirt… 😉

    Roland

  15. Hello from Romania Mark,

I guess The Primal Lifestyle had reached my country too. It`s too bad though little people had heard about it. I’m actually working on a site about this: Primal, IF, Eat Stop Eat, Low-carb. It’s everything I stand for. Very excited to launch it.

I mostly like the fact that you support your affirmations with studies, it’s good quality info and I want to thank you for that. It’s funny.. I always wonder what you’re going to write about next 🙂

What can I say.. The design looks great, love the forum idea.

Keep up the good work. Or.. as we say in Romania: “?ine-o tot asa”

    Best regards,
    Bianca

    P.S. I apologize for any spelling/grammar mistakes

  16. Great look to the site, Mark!

Very clean and professional looking, which I know is just a small part of it.

And I like the forum concept. It’s a much better platform for all of us to share our success and tips.

    Keep moving forward,
    Bill

  17. Nice redesign! It is fun to see who is following you on twitter – I see other blogs I love listed!

  18. Yay – I love the new site & look forward to connecting with the PB community via the forum & with recipes (got lots of those to post.Great job, I know this took a tremendous amount of work. But you guys have the energy since you eat & work out right!
    Grok on, people!
    Marci

  19. Mark! Awesome! I love the site!!!! I thoroughly enjoy the colors, too. Hah. I know, I’m a dork. But yeah, great site! And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PRIMAL BLUEPRINT!
    <3

  20. Really like the new layout, and pre-ordered my copy of The Primal Blueprint.

  21. Hey Mark,

I just pre-ordered the book and I’m so excited! 2 things that may seem a little nitpicky but I figured I’d tell you anyways:
1)The CVV# for credit cards. A lot of times when you buy something online there’s some sort of explanation as to what it is. Usually a “what’s this?” link that instructs you where to find the number on the card.
2)The expiration date on the credit card. Is there any way to limit the number of characters in that box? Because (dumb me!) even though it said MM/YY I typed in MM/YYYY (which I hope isn’t a problem with my order!)

  22. Wow! I’m dazzled. There are a lot of new things to discover. After seeing the screenshot preview I thought that the site would look good, but not great. But now that I’ve seen the whole page, I actually think that the design is damn good.
I won’t pass a final judgement just yet though, bein a hobby web designer myself, this is something I pay a lot of attention to.

primalblueprint.com, the website for your new book looks very cheap though. I haven’t read the book yet, of course, but I’m simply gonna assume, that it’s gonna be pretty good, but the promotional page for the book looks like the page of any other cheap diet/excercise book.

  23. Hey Mark,

Great new site! Just ordered my copy of the The Primal Blueprint.

  24. Mark,

Great site! This will add to your momentum towards getting the word out.

    Kyle

  25. Redesign looks much more professional. I am disappointed I’ve not made it into your links though 🙁

    Looking forward to the book

  26. Wow, this looks so great. Thanks for all your hard work and intelligence you put into this. I reccomend MDA to clients and family and friends all the time as a good source of intelligent balanced information that can change their lives for the better!

  27. Mark, I just had a terrific thought… everyone that submits a testimonial with photos should get a shirt.

  28. Mark,

The site rocks! Nice job. Congrats to everyone over there that worked hard on the redesign (as I know how time consuming it can be).

This should help take the primal message to another level.

    Mike OD

  29. Nice design, very user friendly and easy to navigate. Looking forward to getting my hands on your book, I just ordered one!

    1. Would love to see girly sizes AND kids sizes! Usually the only t-shirt size that fits me is kids large. 🙂

  30. Beautiful re-design. I was actually a big fan of the primal cartoon homunculus myself, but a real life six pack is good too.
If we subscribe to your site via the RSS Feed, do we still have to register for the email newsletter to get the introduction?

Site looks great in Opera, btw.

  31. Wow really neat redesign, very spiffy! I didn’t think the old site was that bad (and still don’t) but yeah the new site just looks awesome man, great job!

  32. Mark,

The new site looks very sharp!

The “Grok in the Wild” Flickr Stream is not displaying in the sidebar for me. Not sure if you’ve activated it yet, or not. Great idea!

    John

  33. The sound is dead on your video. Love the shirts – especially the white one. Always great content…keep it coming Mark!

  34. I really like the new format; I’m looking forward to exploring all the great features! I’m especially excited about the forum.

  35. The site looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Great job! I especially love the new shirts. I’ll be wearing mine with pride all over Cali. to help spread the good news of the Primal Blueprint!

  36. I loved the old site (and miss the cartoon!Mark) but this is great! Nice photos 🙂

  37. Love the new site.

Noticed that the copyright at the very bottom has “2008”. I’m thinking it should be “2009” but maybe not.

    Grok on!

  38. LOVE the new look and as always all of the fantastic information 🙂 thanks for always staying so in the know for us!

  39. I love the new look of the site, the photos and the t-shirts! Great job all around… now on to hours of exploring the new layout…

  40. Hey Mark-
The new site looks good. I just ordered the book for my parents. Hopefully they will enjoy it. Take care

  41. Mark,
Great new site, can’t wait to read the book. The forumns should be a great place for the primal community!

  42. Man, I have been updating the site every few minutes, couldn’t wait for it to finally appear. And no dissapointment there, the site is fab!
That makes primal living even better!

  43. Looks really good. I’ve heard that it’s a good idea to do a redesign every year or so. Seems a bit excessive to me, but I can see from your site how it re-invigorates it.

  44. The new site looks awesome! I love the re-addition of the forum. I’m pretty new to the primal world so it’s good to have a way to connect with the veterans.

  45. Bookity book book! Yay! This new layout seems so bright. Like… whoa. I like it. I think there should be an apple pic though. Seeing as your blog title includes it. Okay, ordering book now.

  46. Hey Mark,
Just as I was getting used to the old site…

Love the look, the feel, and the overall layout. I can’t wait to get back to skimming through the archives! Thanks for everything!!

  47. Looks great!!! I am glad to see the forums, I’m sure I’ll find that quite helpful. I am excited to read the book but was disappointed that the free shipping offer didn’t extend to Canadians. Will your book be sold on Amazon or Indigo by any chance? As excited as I am for the book I would rather order it in Canada and avoid paying 12.95 USD for shipping . . .

  48. Whooops! I incorrectly replied the first time.

Anyway, love the new site Mark. Looks great.

  49. Site redesign looks very nice. I like the addition (re-introduction) of the forum.

  50. Gotta love the T-shirt! 😉 Very happy to have found the site. Since I’ve gotten my husband to “go Primal” he’s lost 30 lbs & gotten his cholesterol under control without satins. Which is great.
    Grok on.

  51. Mark – I really like the new website and am looking forward to the book! Thanks for all your hard work to have this type of info openly available.

  52. very nice looking redesign, but I admit I miss the cartoon-Mark and the red colors..
I kept getting this error message: “Information from this secure page will be submitted to a page that is not secure on beacon.indieclick.com.
Submitting sensitive information is strongly discouraged.”
while on https://primalblueprint.com/ using the opera browser, it was quite annoying as it popped back up every few seconds, maybe you want to look into that (worked better using firefox)

apart from that, I’ll need to figure out which friend/relative needs a copy of the book the most urgently .)
also – are there any plans for a translation yet?

  53. I like the new look and the shirts. I also like having a forum again.

  54. Hi Mark! The new design is great. As others already posted, the previous page was already terrific, but this is even better!

I tried to order the book, but when I submitted the order, it said I need to “fill in valuable info in highlighted areas”. Didn’t see any highlighted areas not filled in, will try again.

Thanks again for all of the info on the website and for all of the work that you put into it.

    1. Deborah…make sure you are selecting a shipping method. That stumped me for a couple minutes. You have to select the Media method to get the free shipping.

  55. Loving the new site Mark. Looking forward to reading your book, and will show it around the office to hopefully get some more people to learn the primal blueprint!

  56. Hi Mark,

I’ve only known about your site for a couple of weeks now, but I read it daily! I love the new design, and can’t wait to go through the archives!

  57. Thank you, Dave! That was the problem. I must have killed too many brain cells painting today!

  58. Hello from M’sia,

Great layout Mark. Well done! I love the new site map feature for browsing through older content. Looks way more organized now.

I’ve also ordered Primal Blueprint and can’t wait to get my hands on it. Exciting times.

    Grok on!

  59. Mark,

Grok lives!!! T-shirts look great as well as the website. To kick-off the new book I am doing a before and after. I am trying to put together a blog/website to document my progress. As soon as it is up I will let you and other know. Truly will be putting The Primal Blueprint to the test and am confident my ideal weight goal will be met. Grok On!

  60. Big ups for the new site Mark! Loving the design and really easy to navigate. Just pre-ordered the book so will be eargerly waiting it’s arrival 🙂

  61. Wow, this is 100x’s easier to navigate. Very clean and attractive. Can’t wait to use the forum.

  62. Mark,

I love the new look. I love all the little details (such as a changing header graphic). Awesome job on this…and still has a “clean” feel with all of the features.

I’m going to take a cool picture with my Grok T-shirt. My girlfriend is a high-end fashion designer in Seattle and I may try to sneak up on stage (she’d kill me, but it would be worth it).

Love the site…and thanks for adding me to your blog roll…I’ll keep sending visitors your way, because your site is definitely one of my favorites.

    Here’s to a great summer!

    Rusty

  63. I love the site. I am adding to my daily read list. I have just begun the journey to better health and appreciate the information.

  64. Looking great! I liked the red motif before, but I have to admit that green works better with the primal thing.

I don’t see anything really wonky. The Popular Posts tab in the sidebar isn’t showing anything yet, but that might be because it just hasn’t had time to aggregate stats yet.

Putting the newsletter subscribe and search boxes at both the top and bottom of the site was a great idea.

Can’t wait to read the book.

  65. I LOVE the search function, but here at work I’m still stuck with IE 6, and in the comments section I can’t see the names, or the buttons to reply/quote that I imagine are there. All I can see is the text and light green boxes. I will take another look when I get home!

  66. Mark – very nice indeed (especially the ralaxing green), and thanks for featuring my video in the sidebar!

Few small things I thought I would mention:

    – a bugbear for me on the search functions of most blogs is that in the results you get a big chunk of the article, not just it’s name. For me, in a perfect search function, you would get a list of results in the same format as you have the archives in, so that you can decide the best one to look at from the titles. Otherwise if there are lots of results it can take a long time to find what you are looking for. I have the same problem on my blog so can appreciate it’s not necessarily something the software can do – but I thought I’d raise it.

    – it took me a while to figure out how to change the image on my forum profile: I was convinced I would be able to do it in the same place as you change your regular details – but of course I have to change my gravatar which is done by clicking on the button at the bottom of a comments section and going to the gravatar account management page. Could there be a link to the gravatar admin on the same page as you can edit your forum profile information to save confusion?

    – Finally, I was also hunting around for a link to my profile when I was elsewhere in the site – then realised the link is only visible when you are in the forums area. Most sites have the “Hi, Methuselah” and “logout” links in the top right of every page so that you feel like you are logged into the site rather than just the forums – which I guess is kind of true if you are also able to comment using your logged-in credentials.

Just some thoughts – as I say, I think the redesign is excellent and am looking forward to spending some time on the new site.

    1. Thanks for the feedback, Methuselah. We are in the process of adding More tags to archived posts so that search results don’t display the full blog post. The search results won’t be just titles but they will be much shorter than the full blog post.

I’ll see if we can add the gravatar link to the forum.

Thanks for the feedback. I hope you’re seeing some good traffic from the link!

  67. Great redesign! Nice color scheme and navigation is easy and simple.

  68. I love the shirt. I’m using the shirt as my reward for the next 25 pounds I lose. I don’t want to get one now as I wouldn’t be a good advertisement for grock life.

  69. The new look is awesome! I just pre-ordered your book and I can’t wait to get read it. The forum is a great idea too. There are so many people out there with great ideas and tips and now we have a centralized place to talk about it. Thanks again Mark for all you do for we, the aspiring Groks of the world.

  70. Love the new site and it is great that you now have a discussion forum

  71. Mark,
So far I absolutely love the new design. The colors are soothing, the layout is clean, and frankly its one of the best transformations I’ve seen. Many website overhauls end up killing things that users have known and loved in favor of flashy webby-2.0 crap.

ON THE OTHER HAND . . . the page for ordering the book is unfortunately much too much like every single flashy e-book salesy website out there. Too long, too much info, too many glowing testimonials…. I *believe* in the Primal Blueprint, but the site makes me think you’re trying to sell snake oil.

My two cents. Thanks, and keep up the amazing work.

I’m ordering 4 books, but I might do it over the phone – the website has insecure content so having the ordering info on the same page makes my browser not trust the encryption…. just fyi.

  72. it looks awesome !!
I miss the red color but this is fresh.
    =)
I think it’s great that you have the categories listed on the top of the page instead on the side, it is definitely more user friendly!

  73. I really like the look of the new website. Everything is easier to access and the photos are a nice change.

  74. Hey Mark,
Really great work redesigning the website. Everything is easier to find, more organized and clear.

It makes navigating much more intuitive and pleasant.

    thanks,
    Dave

  75. heyyyyy great lay out!
I love how the categories are listed above now. much easier to find.
    =DDDD

  76. This new site is fun, totally upbeat! MDA is the most exciting place to be on the internet-“daily!”

  77. My text re-sizing wheel on my mouse won’t work on this site, that sucks.
It also sucks that when I go through the menu to resize the text, it goes off the side of the page instead of reformatting to fit my screen. I have to scroll back and forth to read the article. This is bad for people with vision issues.

  78. TOP NOTCH SITE! Lovin the green and the pics are making me want to come back to sweet cali. Great to see you appearing more, keep up the vids it shows people this is real and gives us something to relate to. What a great life!

  79. The redesign looks very professional and fits the new spirit of the progressive MDA. Perhaps a stylized, small iconized apple might remain behind your name in the blog header, a slightly transparentized-blackened graphic behind the name, to the left. I’d volunteer to generate such a graphic if you’re interested.

Best to you in the future, Mark.

  80. Great design Mark! I missed the launch..damn! I have only had a chance to take a quick look so far, but can’t wait to have a really good look around and join the forum too.

  81. Thanks so much for making quality information available to the cash poor. The new site looks even better than the old, from what I can tell. Grok on!

  82. I just thought of something I wouldn’t mind seeing.

How about tags? Tags offer more options than search and can be more specific.

For example, just now I did a search for the word “coffee” because I wanted to see Mark’s opinion about coffee.

The search results gave me a bunch of results which contain the word coffee, but it was difficult to find one that was only or mainly about coffee.

If tags were introduced, a post that was mainly or only about coffee could be tagged as “coffee” and then there could be a tag cloud or a more granular keyword specific type search for that.

  83. I’ll be all over a Grok On shirt, too (in a flattering womens cut, please!). So freakin’ excited about your book, Mark.

  84. LOVE the new design. Leaves a memorable impression…. relaxing, serene. So funny, at first I thought “ooohh that little cartoony guy’s gone” — but after watching your welcome video, it’s funny how all the light-apple-green just seems to FIT with you Mark, like website feng-shui HAHA
Love it. …You must get that awesome feeling of someone who just bought a Porsche and gets jazzed every time they walk to their car — “that’s MINE.” lol

  85. My husband would love love love this shirt for his birthday along with your book that I will be ordering!!
