Welcome, everyone, to the redesign of Mark’s Daily Apple!
If you watched the video you know the basics already, but here is a more thorough introduction to the new site.
We really did outgrow our old site. Loyal MDA readers wanted more ways to connect with me and the community so I’ve tried to incorporate some elements into the site that help facilitate this.
There are so many things that have been updated! I’ll try to be brief and just touch on some of the more important changes.
[UPDATE: Existing newsletter subscribers will be sent the confirmation email over the course of the entire week. If you are an existing newsletter subscriber and don’t want to wait to for the Free Introduction to The Primal Blueprint and want to ensure you get this week’s newsletter go ahead and enter your email address Weekly Newsletter Subscribe box in the sidebar and you’ll get the confirmation link immediately. Thanks, everyone!]
– Starting at the top. As I mentioned I ditched the old cartoon image of me in exchange for photos of me living the Primal lifestyle. Whenever you refresh the page a new photo will load. I hope the photos inspire you to get out there and stay active. If a 55 year old dude can stay fit so can you. I’ll plan on updating these fairly regularly so stay tuned.
– I’ve added the forum back. Many early MDA readers may remember that we originally had a forum. There were a number of reasons why I ended up removing it, but needless to say I think the community is robust enough now to fully appreciate a forum based around the Primal Blueprint and everything related to health and fitness. I hope you all take advantage of the forum to share your ideas, success stories, recipes, workouts and experiences relating to the Primal Blueprint.
– Next, jumping over to the sidebar: There are three ways to subscribe to MDA content now: by subscribing to the Weekly Newsletter, by subscribing to our RSS feed, and (at the bottom of the page) by subscribing to each day’s post via email. Just click the “Feeds” tab at the top of the page for more information on all of these ways to get MDA content delivered to you.
By the way, if you sign up for the newsletter now you will receive the complete introduction to my new book, The Primal Blueprint, for free. If you’ve already signed up for the newsletter there is no need to sign up again, but, as I mentioned in the video, you do need to click on the link in the confirm email you will be receiving today. Once you do you will the get the introduction delivered to immediately and will begin to receive all the new features I’ve added to our newsletter.
Ok. What else do we have?
Well, I’ve also addressed some of the navigation shortcomings found on the old site. To make a long story short you can view every post ever published on MDA by clicking “Site Map” at the bottom of the page. Search Results are now truncated versions of the post instead of full posts. Archives are now organized by category and date. And we now have a nifty “Top Posts” section that will highlight the latest and best the site has to offer.
There are a few more notable sections in the sidebar. “Mark’s Daily Apple TV” will be the go-to place for our latest videos. I’ll be putting up Primal related videos here. Sometimes they will be from around the net, but I do plan on creating my own on a more regular basis in the future so stay tuned.
The “Connect with Mark” section provides a way to stay in touch with me personally. Join me on Facebook and Twitter.
“Sites Mark Visits” is a rotating blogroll. Every time you refresh the page this list will update, so keep coming back for more of my favorite sites.
“Grok in the Wild” is a Flickr photo stream of members from the MDA community sporting the “Grok On!” t-shirts. I just released these shirts. They are American Apparel shirts and feature our new Grok logo. Send me a pic of you acting like Grok in one of our t-shirts and I’ll add you to the stream. And check out the pics. Son of Grok and others have already sent in photos of themselves Getting Primal.
Some other features include the ability to email and share a blog post with others by clicking “Share This” and also the ability to print out a printer-friendly version of a blog post.
Lastly, the comment section has been improved. You can now add an avatar to all of your comments and you can reply to specific comments. Test it out to see how it works.
If you poke around you’ll also find information on Primal Nutrition products including my book The Primal Blueprint.
Apart from the design changes I also have some great new content up my sleeve that I plan to roll out soon, so check back daily.
