Meet Mark

Let me introduce myself. My name is Mark Sisson. I’m 63 years young. I live and work in Malibu, California. In a past life I was a professional marathoner and triathlete. Now my life goal is to help 100 million people get healthy. I started this blog in 2006 to empower people to take full responsibility for their own health and enjoyment of life by investigating, discussing, and critically rethinking everything we’ve assumed to be true about health and wellness...

It’s Friday, everyone! And that means another Primal Blueprint Real Life Story from a Mark’s Daily Apple reader. If you have your own success story and would like to share it with me and the Mark’s Daily Apple community please contact me here. I’ll continue to publish these each Friday as long as they keep coming in. Thank you for reading!

To say our lives have been impacted by the Primal Blueprint and Mark Sisson would be a ridiculous understatement. The fact of the matter is, our lives are a direct creation from the influence that Primal Blueprint has had on our lives. We are Adam and Vanessa Lambert, creators of Bee The Wellness, an innovative personal coaching company based out of Los Angeles. This is our story.

We have all read the stories of success with weight loss and improvements to health and longevity here on Mark’s Daily Apple. What we don’t often get to hear is how the magic of this community and way of living can make a profound impact on the rest of your life. That is what the The Primal Blueprint has done for us, and we know it can do it for you too.

We were already paleo when we found Mark’s Daily Apple years ago. We had been living in the same small town and being coached by Robb Wolf and had already adopted the ancestral diet when we were first introduced to Mark Sisson. What we didn’t know was how connecting to the Primal Blueprint community would shift how we would fundamentally live our lives and who we would become in the world. This is the part about this lifestyle that is hard to describe and even more difficult to point to. Alas, we will give it a go.

Adopting the Primal eating principles creates space in your life. What we mean by that is now that you are not subject to dealing with how the standard American diet leaves you feeling (tired, bloated, and hungry five minutes later) you have space to create your life in the way you want to experience it, not in the way it happens to you by default.

Now we know it may seem like a stretch, but gaining the clarity of body and mind, helps you to gain the clarity of soul. Suddenly you start to take notice of the other things in your life that are not in alignment with your healthiest self. Perhaps it’s other lifestyle habits, relationships, or your work environment. Whatever it is, you start to notice a distinct disconnect between how you have been living your life and how you want to live your life. By gaining this foundation of health you suddenly find it propelling you towards other ways of thinking, acting, and creating your reality more mindfully and with greater intention. Connecting to other Primal subscribers within the community only deepens your commitment to this new way of being.

This is what happened for us. Eating an ancestral diet, following the Primal principles, connecting with like minded people in this community was a catapult for discovering what was important to us. From there we discovered who we wanted to be in the world and how we could make an impact in the community in our unique way. This led us to creating our own wellness company where we now get to coach people from all walks of life and in all areas of the world. We also lead Primal based adventures in places like Costa Rica, Peru, Africa and this summer, the Redwood Forest of Northern California. We host a paleo based podcast where we share and communicate with people who can help influence the world in a more positive way.

Recently we were nominated for four “Best Of Paleo” awards, which helped us to realize we were in fact making a difference in people’s lives. We are living our dream life and it all started by embracing the Primal way of living and being in the world. So for those of you who are just beginning your journey or for those of you who are well on your way, let this be a reminder of the limitless potential that comes from adopting this way of being in the world. Embrace the journey and be open to what it can create for you in your life, because when it comes to Primal living, the sky is the limit.

  1. I couldn’t agree more… the Primal Blueprint community is beyond amazing. Yes, it starts with wanting to live healthier and happier… or, maybe your little boys were always sick and not thriving (my story) and you’re tired of the same doctors giving you the same prescriptions for the same crap. Whatever your story, YOU have to be the catalyst to change… YOU have to seek out information of value. I believe that the most valuable, most transformative information out there is that which is aligned with our evolutionary past… it’s the original stuff that our DNA grew up on… this is the stuff that evolved the big brains that we enjoy today… this is the stuff that our DNA still expects in the modern world in order to think, perform and produce at our human potential.

The fine people like Mark and you two, and the Primal Blueprint community are the purveyors of this awesome, ancient way of living that’s been tucked away for comfort and convenience. To state the obvious, comfort is not good for the organism so get to work! Great work with Bee The Wellness… you guys look great, so does your site. I always say “show ’em, don’t tell ’em,” unless they ask of course. When they ask, they’re all ears… mission accomplished!

P.S. As a chef and crossfit athletes, I’d love to know what the ancestral diet means to you. Thank you for the story!

    1. Thanks for your commment and yes so many great things come from a curiosity for life and the best way of living it..Nowadays the ancestral diet means so much more than food for us.. This way of eating has evolved into a way of living, loving, adventuring, sharing, thinking.. It really has become a search for how we can discover our best selves and then of course pay that forward. Our community here at Primal and over at Bee The Wellness has become a centerpoint for creativity and how to make a difference in people’s lives. Food was an important jumping off point but now it is about total human nourishment!!

  2. Awesome story. Both of you are so fit and have so much to offer.

  3. I’m not entirely sure what I can add to this conversation as regards diet and exercise, but I would like to add to your comments on the spiritual aspect: You wrote about how eating primal frees your mind to think about other things than food. One of the most surprising and pleasing things about not feeling hungry is the clarity of the mind that comes with it. I don’t eat before midday. I finish eating at sunset. I tend to go to bed when its dark, and wake up at dawn. I feel great in the morning. Pleasantly tired in the evening. Best of all, I find inspiration and joy in the natural world around me. My dog and I walk beside our little river in the morning, and while he explores the world with his nose, I find such delight in the light flickering across the moving water, and the lovely reflections caught in its still reaches. Every morning about 11 am when the land has warmed enough, high above our valley a hawk soars, cruising. I nearly wrote “my Hawk” but no-one owns a wild creature. We share the world together and that is enough. If I was a poet I would write, a singer, I would sing. I am a landscape painter, and I paint. At an age when my friends and family are are thinning out, and the previous generation have gone, art continues to excite me. I am still contributing to my local art community. I give lessons and demonstrations. I take groups out painting. I have a solid exhibition schedule throughout the year. Last month my wife and I spent three days cycling the Otago Rail Trail. I painted watercolours in the evening. Carrying an oil painting kit is a bit tricky on a bike! Did I mention that I’m building a trailerable launch to explore the lakes, harbours and sounds of our beautiful South Island in New Zealand? Not for fish, but for inspiration and still more paintings. I’m 76 now. I said previously that I had plans out to ninety, but with so much to do I’m not sure that it is enough. Hokusai wanted 100! Kindest regards to you both on your journey. Ross

    1. Beautifully written Ross. I experienced some calmness and peace (which I need desperately) just reading it!

  4. Food changes our money. Sleeping habits changes our relationships. Movement changes our emotions.

  5. Adam and Vanessa, love everything about this. Love the way you said becoming Primal created space in your lives. I would never have thought to word it that way, but I couldn’t agree more. And loved your recent interview with Elle on the Primal Blueprint podcast.

  6. Thank you so much for the inspiration. As someone with spiritual practices I could not agree more with the soul aspect of this journey, nothing like meditating while on a fast it makes it so easier to just forget about your body since it feels so great and doesn’t “make any physical requests” because all of its needs are fulfilled. Congratulations on your wonderful endeavors and, I have to mention, you two are amazingly cute! You so much reflect the energy and harmony that I am looking for in a relationship, that made it even more inspiring for me.

  7. Gets dull when the Friday’s success story is just an advertisement for that person’s new website/business……sheesh.

  8. Yessss! This is exactly how I feel. When I embraced the primal lifestyle and freed myself from diets and chronic exercise my life opened up in ways I never could have imagined. I had this new connection to creativity and inspiration that is hard to describe to others who haven’t experienced it. It is such a joyful way to live. 🙂 Thank you for sharing your beautiful story!
