Weekend Link Love – Edition 118

Is man as fit, strong, fast, and productive as he used to be? Salon interviews archeologist/author Peter McAlister on his book Manthropology: The Science of Why the Modern Male is Not What He Used to Be [7]. What say you, readers?

From Free Range Kids, I’d categorize this sign [8] as an active fail.

New York City is one giant pullup bar. Al Kavadlo and brother do pullups on the scaffolding of Manhattan [9]. I love how most of the pedestrians don’t even bat an eye while passing. And bonus points for the pistol squats!

November 14th was World Diabetes Day and MDA reader Ryan (of AndariegoBlog) participated by performing the Big Blue Test [10] to show the power of exercise and blood sugar control.

The scuff marks, the scuff marks!!! Danny MacAskill is quite handy with a bike [11].

Reader Tiffani found these [12] at her local farmers’ market. The sticker means it helps you get diabetes, right?

Recipe Corner

  • Food Renegade makes bacon-wrapped salmon cakes with asparagus [13]. Holy moly, this is a good one. The recipe also includes pine nuts, Dijon mustard, Parmesan cheese, coconut oil, and of course, butter. It’s the unicorn of the wrapped salmon world.
  • If you haven’t started planning for T-Day, The Food Lovers Primal Palate posts a full Thanksgiving menu [14], eight gobblingly good recipes.

Time Capsule

One year ago (November 14 – 20)

  • Primal Trail Food [15] – Because granola bars just won’t do, this list of Primal munchies will keep you energized hiking all day.
  • Is the Primal Blueprint a Type of Asceticism? [16] – Living Primal means letting go of the sugars and starches, but does it mean letting go of life’s pleasures? Living Primal is neither fully Spartan nor Hedonistic, so where does it lie on the spectrum between the two?

Comment of the Week

I met a couple in Hawaii last Fall. She was wearing Vibram Five Fingers and he was wearing those rocker shoes; she thought “Born to Run” was the awesome-est book ever, he thought it a load of merde.

Talk about a mixed marriage!
