The Primal Blueprint is Now Shipping

As many of you know, The Primal Blueprint began shipping this week. Thanks to everyone for the support and all the fantastic responses I’ve received during the pre-order period. Many of you have already received your copy and have begun reading it. I look forward to your feedback, but only if it’s positive. I’m kidding! Seriously though, all of your thoughts are welcome.

The book was built on the discourse that takes place here everyday and I want this to continue. I see The Primal Blueprint as the essential lifestyle guidebook off of which all things here at MDA are built. (It provides the foundation and context for the blog and a level of detail that can only be achieved in a full length book.) In this sense the book, coupled with the blog, the forum, and the newsletters, is a living document of sorts; growing, changing and evolving with the latest research and all the new content we publish.

A testament to my commitment to keeping the material new and up-to-date is the decision to include the Appendix online. Instead of adding another 100 pages to the back of the book we decided to publish the References (coming soon!), Primal Blueprint Resources, Suggested Reading List and three other sections that we originally intended to include in the book (Primal Blueprint Q&A – Everything You Wanted to Ask…But We’re Afraid to Know, Workout Suggestions: Lift Heavy Things and Sprint Once in a While) right here on Mark’s Daily Apple.

On one of these pages is a section I think many of you might find particularly interesting. I’ve written up comparisons between The Primal Blueprint and other major health and fitness books. You can check them out here:

Primal Blueprint Compare and Contrast with Popular Diets

Atkins Diet

Low Fat Diets (Ornish, MacDougall, Pritikin)

Metabolic and Blood Typing Diets

Paleo Diet

South Beach Diet

Vegetarian Diet

Zone Diet

The Primal Blueprint (Pre-emptive strike…because it’s my book!)

The Biggest Losers

Thanks again to all the supporters out there. I hope you will continue to participate with me in this Primal experiment. It’s been a thoroughly rewarding experience for me thus far, and I hope you can say the same!

BTW – If you were waiting for the book to officially drop before placing your order now is your chance. Order today and you can still get FREE shipping and handling. Let’s Get Primal!

Imagine you’re George Clooney. Take a moment to admire your grooming and wit. Okay, now imagine someone walks up to you and asks, “What’s your name?” You say, “I’m George Clooney.” Or maybe you say, “I’m the Clooninator!” You don’t say “I’m George of George Clooney Sells Movies Blog” and you certainly don’t say, “I’m Clooney Weight Loss Plan”. So while spam is technically meat, it ain’t anywhere near Primal. Please nickname yourself something your friends would call you.

    • Great idea !!! I’d love the “girlie” version……a tank with a “racer style” back would sell tons and perfect for us CrossFitters….thanks Mark !

  4. Received mine Monday and already half done. I’ve been about 60% primal for about four months and am heading up to that 80% mark. The book is inspiring and equipping the move.

  6. I got mine on Friday and it had to come all the way to Perth in Western Australia! I spent a lovely day on Saturday lying in the back garden getting some vitamin D and reading it, great work Mark. I have had a really hard time putting it down and am about to pick it up again to finish it off and then decide who to lend it to in my family as they would all benefit from reading it!

Yeah go the girly Grok! Maybe also a line of Grok inspired make-up and hair care products!

  9. Got mine two days ago and have been reading it but (more importantly!) have been handing it over to my dad, who’s in serious need of a veggie and fat-packed primal makeover in order to fight off that ex-marathoner Chronic Cardio/weight gain mentality.

You’re the best, Mark – keep it up!

  10. Got mine last week, too. Thank you! It’s a blast to read! A lot of it I already know and agree with, but I like reading about Grok’s family and the Korg’s. Very fun!

  13. Hi I’m an international (future) brother of Grok, and I’m wondering if the free shipping applies in my case as well. Thanks.

  14. Hi Mark,

I’m a bit surprised by your take on Metabolic Typing (which isn’t based on blood). There’s more to it than simply knowing where your ancestors came from. Unless you have a pure lineage, the intercultural breeding that has occurred with the advancement of world travel makes this too difficult. Sure, someone who descended from an Eskimo lineage can enjoy fruit, but if they truly have the metabolism of an Eskimo, they’re health will probably head south if they make it a staple of their diet. This is why native cultures like the American Indians who thrived mostly on meat are more susceptible to health problems than most other people if they follow the modern diet.

I personally happen to feel great by following a diet of mostly meat and fat and clearly don’t feel well when I head in the other direction. My wife is the complete opposite. Although this is anecdotal, it is hard to deny.

If you haven’t already, I suggest you read “The Metabolic Typing Diet” by William Wolcott before you write it off completely. Here’s an article I wrote about Metabolic Typing that you might like to read as well.

I’m a big advocate of the primal lifestyle and I think Metabolic Typing is an important part of it.

  15. I had to pay $6 for shipping, is that because I chose the faster shipping option?

Hey Mark, On page 34 in section 4, you are missing a close parentheses after the word indoors.

    P.S. I read slow.

  16. Got all 4 of my copies and stayed up too late one night reading them (I finally went to sleep during the “get more sleep” chapter.) *grin*

At least one is destined for one of my relatives, another one for a friend who sells me the best wild caught salmon, and the other…..? Its good to have extras.

  17. I just placed my order. I hope I receive this book soon. I can’t wait to read it. I’ve even got my husband hooked to this website and the primal way of living. He can’t wait to read the book as well.

Mark-CONGRATULATIONS!! You truly deserve all of this success.

  19. Mark,

My husband and I are sharing a copy, which we received a few days ago. I am, perhaps 2/3 of the way through, and the book is absolutely wonderful. I am so impressed with the quality of the research, and the quality of the writing, which is entertaining, informative and as easy to understand as it possibly could be (considering that some chapters deal with pretty complex biological processes).

I am also inspired to transition more and more from the Atkins/Primal hybrid I’ve had to a completely PB approach. (I’ll get there!)

Kudos to you! Your inevitable success will be well deserved.

  20. I received my copy yesterday, Mark, thank you for the valuable info and presentation; the trade for my small amount of money was well worthwhile!

Thank you again for signing it.

P.S. My girlfriend is NOT a fan of the Vibram Five Fingers you mention… when I find a pair in my size in my city, I’m in!

  21. I have sent about 4 emails asking if there are any signed copies left as I would like to order one and have not received a response, anyone know if they are all gone?
