My grandparents sat on their balcony every day (weather permitting) for 30-45 minutes in the sun.
Neither of them ever wore sunscreen. Grandma was french (dark skinned) Grandpa was dutch, fair skinned. They never had any issues from the sun, no "luggage skin" no skin cancers, nothing.
They always had a nice healthy slightly tanned glow.
It's a fascinating subject the whole sun exposure issue.

To be honest, I've never known what was enough or not enough in terms of sun exposure. I've figured out that by going to work every day on my bike (that's a little over 1 hour/day), I'd get enough, sort of. However, there's no way you'll see me in a tanning booth, if only because getting all wrinkled at 30 isn't part of my plans for life. ;)

Have to be careful with the sun thing. I drove with the top down on my car for 7 hours the other day. I slopped some suntan lotion on my face--and not very carefully. Now my face is lightly tanned except for a dark red triangle stretching across my forehead. Boo. And I'm sure buckwheat is good and all as well.
