I don't know about you, but I used to get 10-12 hours of sleep every night...

...however, I got 8 last night and felt absolutely tired all day. When I get 5-7 hours I seem to do best.

Go figure!

Deb,

You can use headphones while wearing the Dreamhelmet, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the sound-blocking idea. The pillow part is a lot thinner than a normal pillow.

There's a patent too for this headband you wear around your head that plays music and stuff. Probably less cumbersome than the Dreamhelmet. It's called Sleepphones - Pajamas for Ears. Pretty cute if you ask me!

That's an original idea about setting an alarm to tell you when to sleep! I never heard that before, but you're right - people should plan in order to get the sleep they need. Even 15 minutes or an extra half hour sometimes makes a big difference. Look at the Dreamhelmet - it's made for that - it has a patented tri-sensory blocking system (light, hearing, touch)and comes with a free alarm watch that fits inside it. See dreamhelmet.com

I like your idea to set a bedtime alarm.

Another strategy for getting in extra sleep time in the morning is to reduce your commute. You can move closer to your job; get a job closer to home; or see if you can telecommute a couple of days a week. Because of my car-free lifestyle, my commute is a little long - about 45 minutes. But I am lucky in that my new manager allows everyone to telecommute on Tuesday and Friday. I just got 3 hours of my life back, an hour and a half of which is in the morning and allows me extra, blessed slumber.
