I love the alarm method. I may do that. I have a hard time stopping sometimes.

So true. I certainly know how--I've lost over 50 pounds twice in my life (and now working on achieving that for the third time). It's all about making choices, and you have to make the right ones.

I came up with the bedtime alarm all on my own about a month ago. For the most part, it has worked great. Now I just have to get out of the habit of ignoring it on the weekends.

Jaime, I enjoyed your comment very much. Something I will send to others with weight issues for inspiration. :)

Wow. What a great post, and like Jaime said, so well-timed. I have little trouble when it comes to eating like a champ, but when it comes to exercise it is, unfortunately, another story. I started using a trick akin to the "just put your shoes on" about two months ago, and end up running most days now.

Thanks for these other "trip wire" tricks, Aaron. I plan on trying the supplement one out tomorrow!

“Living a healthy lifestyle is simple, but not easy.”

So true. This is a fantastic post, and, for me, so well-timed. I've had eating issues all my life. I'm a smart woman. I know science. I know what's healthy and what's not, and when I encounter new ideas about health (say, from this website), I integrate them into my understanding. So why have I exhibited such illogical behavior? I don't know. I have bad habits. I have issues with food. It's comfort, it's relaxation. It has been.

About a month ago I was starting to look for a therapist because I felt so out of control and frustrated. But then I said to myself, hold on, you're smart, and though you have some troubled habits, you're not mentally ill - do what you know is right. My bad eating's never *out of control* - it's just controlled by something other than my conscious understanding of what's healthy or best for me. This month is my test - eat the way I know I should, the way I know I *want* to. I haven't been perfect, but I've been doing it. (Key: no booze. Because then control is an entirely different issue.)

It's sort of like "Just Do It." Or, in the case of late-night spoonfuls of peanut butter, just don't. It's not easy, but I know what to do. We all do. And hopefully the hard, good things become habit in time.
