Clearly, a not insignificant portion of the weight loss experienced in the first week is simply water.

However, that does not take away from Primal approach, as we have to ask ourselves --- when eating carbs why the hell are we retaining and carrying that all extra water?

Great job everybody! My old bulimic tendencies kicked in when I began restricting carbs, so I need to take it a bit slower and work on some emotional issues before I can dive into the PB.

QUESTION: How much water is everyone consuming? Just the regular 'drink when you're thirsty' philosophy by Mark, or do you guys have different opinions on this idea? Just curious. Thanks.

If half the weight I dropped was water weight, its still two pounds less I'm carrying around, so I don't mind. My weight has held steady at 139.5 all week this week, but I am working on increasing my low level physical activity and strength training.

Keep up the good work everyone, this is exciting. I kind of feel left out.

I've been eating this way for quite awhile and it is the best thing I've done for myself.

Simon,

Generally 1-2 pounds a week is great steady progress, without any real suffering (without feeling starved) if you do it right. Some people get a quick early loss due to a range of adjustments including water loss with the lost glycogen. But to burn an extra 500-1000 calories a day of stored body fat is "chewing off" as you say 1-2 pounds.

Simon fellows....

Not exactly sure what you are getting at, but be assured that I'm not starving myself. As a matter of fact, I'm so full from upping my healthy fat intake that I find that I'm forcing myself to eat just to make it above 1500 calories a day.

I'll grant that all the weight I've lost might not be fat, but I haven't dropped a single pound in 12 weeks of heavy exercise which includes 2hours of Muay Thai training at least 3 times a week amongst other things. Week 2 is coming around the corner so time will surely tell that this progress is real.

Cheers!
