Julia’s Goals: “To average 100 grams of carbohydrates per day in 2012, and to incorporate more and more of the primal lifestyle where I can.”
Update 04/09/12: “Well, in 3 months I’ve gone from 167.4 lbs to 149.6 lbs. I wish I could say that I’ve been eating 100% primal but alas, I have not. Basically, I eat completely primal meals but my snacks are often high carb, like potato chips or chocolate. Bad, bad, bad, I know. I’m still a sugar-burner essentially. I think what’s allowed me to lose 18 lbs in 3 months is the fact that I’m nursing a baby under age 1. But as she eats more and more solid food, I won’t be able to depend on her for my weight loss, so I’ve really got to get in gear!
That size 8 wardrobe of mine that my mom wanted to donate in December because she was sure I’d never be that thin again after having another baby, well, guess what? I’m in my size 8 pants again. I can also get into the dress I wore on my first date with my husband 10+ years ago. I don’t look the same in it (was more muscular then), but at least I’m in it, and it’s not tight. Have not really been doing much primal exercise except hoisting my 22 lb. baby around (sometimes I even use her as a dumb bell and do reps with her — she loves it and thinks we’re playing a game).So my upper arms and shoulders are pretty built from doing that, but the rest of me is the same. I was walking 30 minutes a day on the treadmill but stopped a few weeks ago and need to get back into carving out some time for exercise. Now with the nicer weather finally here, I will try to walk outside more as an alternative.
As for the next 90 days, I think I need to wean myself off the carby snacks and make sure that I’m walking at least 5 days a week. I hope to lose another 10 lbs in the next 2 months, in time for my daughter’s 1st birthday party. Oh, and guess what? My husband went from vegetarianism to veganism in January. So while I’m watching In Search of the Perfect Human Diet, he’s watching Forks Over Knives. It’s a regular paleo vs. vegan SmackDown around here. I plan to be stunning in that dress by June. May the best human win!”
