In the Making

Age: 25

Joe’s Goals: “I’ve been overweight or obese my entire life. I’ve had moments over the past 5-10 years where I have lost a lot of weight, but invariably put it back on again. This time I have extra motivation. Late last year my wife and I learned that we are expecting our first child, due in July 2012. I made a promise to myself, my wife and my unborn Groklette to get myself into the best shape of my life and to forge myself into the kind of dad I want to be. My family history is rife with obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, diverticulitis and more. I don’t want that for me, and I don’t want that for my children. This photo was taken on January 2nd at the start of my first Whole30. I plan to continue on following the Primal Blueprint for the rest of my life. My goals? Improve my low-ish testosterone levels, improve my fitness, get under 20% body fat, be an awesomely active dad. I’m now 25 days in and I don’t plan to stop any time soon!”

You want comments? We got comments:

Imagine you’re George Clooney. Take a moment to admire your grooming and wit. Okay, now imagine someone walks up to you and asks, “What’s your name?” You say, “I’m George Clooney.” Or maybe you say, “I’m the Clooninator!” You don’t say “I’m George of George Clooney Sells Movies Blog” and you certainly don’t say, “I’m Clooney Weight Loss Plan”. So while spam is technically meat, it ain’t anywhere near Primal. Please nickname yourself something your friends would call you.

  1. Congratulations on the first (and best) decision you will ever make as a parent – to lead by setting an awesome example! Stick with it and don’t get discouraged, my husband lost over 60 pounds in 10 months and he has never been happier or looked better! We have two little girls (2 1/2 and 12 weeks) and I know exactly what you mean when you say you want be the best you can be for your kid. Suddenly being responsible for another person makes you take a long look at yourself and you realize what areas you need to change. Without even knowing you I can say I am immensely proud of the fact that you have chosen to take action! I am sure you will be an amazing dad and your little Grokette will benefit so much from having you as a parent. Keep it up and Grok on!
