Introducing the Primal Blueprint Expert Certification!

ExpertCertlogowhitebackgroundI’m pleased to announce the long-awaited release of the Primal Blueprint Expert Certification program. The Primal Blueprint “Cert” is a comprehensive online educational program that delves deeper into Primal/paleo/evolutionary health principles than any other available resource or course. The Cert is comprised of 13 modules designed around the 8 Key Concepts and 5 Action Items that encompass the Primal Blueprint 21-Day Total Body Transformation book. (Each module is about 4-6x more detailed than its corresponding section in the book!) In addition to the educational course you’ll receive a robust package of multimedia educational materials—instructional videos, audio books and digital books.

The certification package truly cultivates the Primal Expert, so that you are empowered to teach others to live Primally. While the program is suitable for certified health, fitness and medical professionals who wish to expand their knowledge and client offerings, it is open to all interested parties with no prerequisites beyond having a decent knowledge of the Primal Blueprint philosophy from reading books and Internet content. That said, this is an intensive educational program that’s equivalent to an upper-division level college course in health sciences, so prepare to get those brain synapses firing!

But don’t worry…my team and I are here to help you along the way. Here’s what to expect:

When you register for the certification, you will receive login instructions to a password-access portal where you can enter the online course as well as access the multimedia educational materials that are yours for the taking. Each module starts with a brief video overview from me, followed by extensive (we hope you find it interesting!) reading material. After watching my summary video and reading the text, we set you free to test your knowledge with an online examination made up of 20-45 questions, a mix of true/false and multiple choice. And there’s no waiting anxiously for your test scores—you get your results immediately. As long as you receive a score of 75 percent correct or better, you can proceed to the next module and work through the program at a fairly rapid pace. But no need to sprint! You can complete the Cert from the comfort of your own home at your own speed—no deadlines ever.

After you have completed all 13 modules and passed their subsequent exams, you have graduated the course! Congratulations are due, so we will ship you a Certified Expert completion kit consisting of an assortment of goodies (including one-of-a-kind Certified Expert apparel!) to celebrate your achievement. You can create a custom profile at our online Certified Expert directory to help you get more clients or just elevate your stature in the Primal community.

It’s a one-time investment of $795, and for that you get a complete educational experience and the resource materials to make you a true expert in Primal living. Naturally, this is a big undertaking for both my company and you, the prospective certified expert. If you have any questions about this course please call 888-774-6259, email or live chat with our staff for more info on what this exclusive opportunity entails.

We are all extremely excited to grow the movement in the best possible way, by deepening your education and empowering you with the tools and knowledge to introduce others to the Primal Blueprint. I would also like to thank you for the overwhelming encouragement and interest you have shown in this program over the past three years. We are very proud of this offering, and I think you’ll agree that your experience was worth the wait!

You want comments? We got comments:

Imagine you’re George Clooney. Take a moment to admire your grooming and wit. Okay, now imagine someone walks up to you and asks, “What’s your name?” You say, “I’m George Clooney.” Or maybe you say, “I’m the Clooninator!” You don’t say “I’m George of George Clooney Sells Movies Blog” and you certainly don’t say, “I’m Clooney Weight Loss Plan”. So while spam is technically meat, it ain’t anywhere near Primal. Please nickname yourself something your friends would call you.

  1. Awesome! Have been waiting for this for a while! Time to start saving up some money for the course.

Wonder how this will be recognized for the purposes of personal training?

  2. Sounds great. It’s a pity that MDA had to create all of this when it should be taught in school.

  3. Sounds good. When I started reading, I figured it would probably cost thousands of dollars. Very reasonable. I would like to see examples of the questions on the exams.

  7. Say I receive less than 75% on a test, can I retake the test as many times as I like or is there a limit?

John wrote on August 27th, 2014
    • If you score below 75% on any module, you can review the material and then take a second exam made up of different, but similar in design, questions. If you score below 75% on the second exam, you will be asked to submit a brief written assignment relating to the questions that you missed on your second exam. Your written work will be evaluated by our staff, and you will interact with us one-on-one when necessary, so that we can ensure you are comfortable with the material and grant you a passing grade.

  9. Looks great. I am wondering what it would give me the authority to do. I am a psychotherapist, practicing an approach called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and work with many people who want to lose weight. I offer some dietary and exercise ideas based on my own experience, but feel I need to be careful how I do this, as I am not a certified or registered nutritionist, dietitian or anything like that. If I completed and passed this course, would it enable me to have the credentials necessary to make this officially part of what I do?

Lisa Wolfe wrote on August 27th, 2014
    • Hi, Lisa,

See my reply to Wenchypoo below.

Mark Sisson wrote on August 27th, 2014
  10. Is there any accreditation attached to this? There are plenty of nutritionist and lifestyle coach-type programs out there that have NO accreditation, so they cannot be used to build upon for a real college degree.

Without some sort of accreditation, there will be no official recognition in the outside world. It will be as if mark were to hit you on the head with a wand, and pronounce you certified. Certified for WHAT, the outside world will ask.

Wenchypoo wrote on August 27th, 2014
    • We applied for CEU certification with a couple of the major USA fitness certification bodies, and discovered that they require dietary advice to fall in line with US Government/conventional wisdom guidelines in order to grant approval for CEU credits to an outside program such as ours. Hence, the Primal Blueprint Expert Certification program is our effort to create our own certification body and help people develop expertise in primal/paleo/evolutionary health principles.

Check out the FAQs “What are the business opportunities available to Certified Experts?” and “What am I allowed to say about my business and the Primal Blueprint without violating trademarks?”, and the section titled “What happens when I pass the cert?” to get a sense of what it means to be certified and what all the opportunities are.

Mark Sisson wrote on August 27th, 2014
      • @Mark…..is there any way you guys can offer CEU’s to healthcare professionals such as RN’s at events such as Primal Con? It would be such a great selling point.

Matt wrote on August 27th, 2014
    • The best professional bet is to have a traditionally recognized cert/license/degree then tack on other certs in addition to that. That’s the route I went after getting my RN.

  11. Sounds great. Can I do it from an iPad?

  12. Thank you so much Mark!!! What an opportunity; I get to study something I’m passionate about for the price of 1 credit at the University. Count me in once my time frees up and my earnings rise. Mark, words cannot describe how much I appreciate your work. Thank you

  13. This would be good to offer to Community College programs- as part of nutrition/health/sports medicine curriculum.

  14. Really excited about this, just enrolled. Working as a fitness director at a private gym I have been implementing many of these tools since I came across PB a few years ago. I am having great success with many clients following these principles. I am excited to make if official in a few months when I pass the exam.

Mark I am hoping you could potential create some intake forms that trainers could use with new clients when discuss the PB and the principals with them. Also looking forward to reaching out to hopefully host a seminar at my location in the near future. The gym I am at is great and the addition of the PB will be great for us and you.

  15. This deal is just as good as access to the 50+ courses in the Mises Curriculum for $99/yr!

    Yeah, shameless plug.

  16. I’m a bit skeptical here. A course that requires 20-30 hours is hardly a vigorous training and then you have to score 75% to get certified to deal with the public as an expert. It’s a start, but you need to make it into a truly rigorous program.

While I love the PB way of life and the books you’ve written, this seems to fall way short of a solid idea.

samc wrote on August 28th, 2014
    • As someone who isn’t yet finished with Module 1, I think 20-30 hours is doable for those who want to absorb the material quickly enough just to pass the exam. However, if you dive into the material and the reference links at the end of each Module, you can stretch your learning much longer (I spent 45 minutes reading one of the reference links last night). This is why I’m forcing myself to do all 13 Modules over 13 weeks, taking an exam every Friday.

  17. Mark: The only thing that keeps me from saying “yes” to this apparently excellent program is that the expert certification reads “Certified Expert #1″. While this is a great design for your income stream to have #1, #2, #3, etc. AND each level could have value, the #1 is so tacky and would make my expertise seem like it is a baby beginner level and detract from my credibility. NAMING is POWERFUL. There must be a better way for you to have your multiple levels while still honoring each with a classy/professional naming pattern. Just like in traditional education, we all respect the bachelor, master and doctorate levels while understanding the differences. Since you are just launching and developing this important and valuable education, I urge you to drop the #1, #2, etc. and give each level a powerful marketing name.

Submitted in the spirit of together we’re better.

Kate wrote on August 28th, 2014
    • I thought the #1, #2, #3, etc. simply means that those people were the first, second, and third people certified, and so on? I didn’t think there were “levels.”

Brian wrote on August 30th, 2014
  18. Mark,

Just passed Key Concept #1 (not too hard, I am a molecular biologist/protein biochemist by training.

To those of you who think 20 – 30 hours is too little. I do agree. I am trying to read all the reference material – and, it can be daunting (even for someone with a post-graduate degree). If you want to scratch the surface – I would say 20 – 30 hours is a good target. Right now, I am through one Circulation journal article and it took 2 hours to really digest it. I probably have another 8 hours to go through the resources and really sink my teeth into what is going on.

But, I do have one question – and it seems to be a contradiction of the Primal philosophy. So, not to bore commenters for this post – how can I get an understanding of how what I just read in the AGE article, and my knowledge of Primal eating can coincide?

  19. A very exciting offering! I’d certainly have my own difficulties diving into this immediately, but I won’t forget it’s here! This is a really wonderful way to get the knowledge out there…have people who truly put in the effort to learn it so THEY can *teach* it! Great job Mark and of course your team!

  20. Is this available to those of us who live outside the US I wonder?

Kristin wrote on August 29th, 2014
  21. I am a Primal enthusiast. I am not a trainer, I’m 42, and I’m about 40lbs away from my goal weight. I’m finally fully recovered from a hip replacement due to repetitive, lifelong hockey injuries (which caused my weight gain over the years). I’ve been primal for 30 days and have lost 10 lbs, and fell spectacular.

I signed up for the Certification course because I am overlaying it on my adoption of the Primal lifestyle. I consider it “personal training” by Mark, and started Module 1 yesterday. The material is clearly written, fascinating, and eminently practical. The website interface and simplicity are excellent.

My biggest struggle yesterday with Module 1 was not rushing to take the exam so I could rush to start module 2! (THINK: House of Cards or Breaking Bad binge watching). I have to force/pace myself to do one Module a week, so that I can assimilate all the knowledge and spread the material over 13 weeks. However, I would think anyone could easily go through the program in the 25-50 hours that Mark indicates on the website.

I normally don’t comment on websites, but I think people should really know that the Certification is NOT just for fitness nuts who want to add the badge to their credentials. I think it’s an eminently valuable tool for any Primal enthusiast who wants to use the course as a complement to adopting the Primal lifestyle. I also like the fact that I’m doing something solely and exclusively for *me*.

I look forward to continuing my progress and reporting back in 13 weeks, hopefully as certified!

  22. My husband and I are both interested in the certification. Is there a household discount for purchasing two courses?

Neesybee wrote on August 30th, 2014
  23. I saw the comment earlier with no answer to it.
Would there be a way for this to get approved for Nursing CEU’s or other health care providers? We don’t have to follow the USDA food recommendations. Healthcare providers can get CEU’s for a variety of learning. This would be such a great thing for RN’s if it could count toward their liscense renewal or toward additional certification renewal. Thank you for your hard work. I’m hoping to do this before I start my Masters in the apring
