This is a case of a complete lack of fundamental quality control procedures by Baxter. They are more at fault for the contaminated Heparin being distributed than the FDA or the China company. Yes, the China company is guilty of making a faulty product and passing it off as good, but why didn't Baxter do any incoming inspection of each lot to insure it met their specifications? The FDA cannot check each batch of drugs manufactured in every lab. That responsibility must lie with those selling the products to the public. This is an inexcusable lapse on the part of Baxter.

They must insure that each batch of pills, Heparin, or whatever conforms 100% to specifications. This is routinely done for almost every part of any product made in the world and especially so for any life-critical products, such as drugs, pacemakers, heart monitors, elevator cables, and thousands of other products. To find a total breakdown of basic QA procedures occurred and not to place the blame squarely on Baxter is beyond belief.

Heather, your opinions are really a pleasure to read. Even if I don't agree with them, you write them in a very entertaining way. So in other words thanks for being you. :)

Yet another reason to just stay healthy in the first place, and avoid taking any type of prescription drug. I don't trust any of them, whether they come from the US, China, or Jupiter.

I take a birth control pill everyday, and usually 1 caffeine pill (not a coffee person), and the sporadic naproxen sodium, but all of those things are not necessary for me to stay alive. If I HAD to take a pill to survive I'd be way more freaked out than I already am.

Pet food, children's toys (lead paint), and it seems there were other issues with stuff coming out of China. When is it going to end? One more reason to attain health and avoid medications if you can!

I think it's just the mark of reprehensible, brazen greed. If the contaminant was cheaper, it's more money in the Chinese company's pocket. Kind of like the pet food issue a year or so ago.
