  1. Many of you have asked for the ability to add photos to your forum posts. The MDA forum now has this functionality so you can add pics of your favorite Primal breakfasts, lunches and dinners, success story photos, and anything else (well, almost anything...)!

Here is how you do it:

This forum does not have a photo upload feature.

Instead photos will have to be hosted on another site. In most cases this will simply mean you will need an account with a photo sharing site.

    Here are two popular options:

    http://www.photobucket.com
    http://www.flickr.com

Create an account and upload your pics.

Once you have a direct link to the photo simply put the URL of the photo in between [img] and [/img].

(To get the direct link right click the image and click "View Image". The displayed URL in your browser is the link you want.)

    Example:

If you put this in your forum comment:

    [img]http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg158/MDA2008/MDA2009/mayo_ingredients.jpg[/img]

(Notice there are no spaces between the img tags and the URL.)

    It will display like this:

The photo's size will automatically be adjusted to fit in the forum column.

Here are a few examples of photos already being used in the forum boards:

    http://www.marksdailyapple.com/forum/topic/primal-challenge-journal-cubical-inmate#post-14543

If the photo isn't displaying properly (i.e. larger than the forum column) please drop me a line. It's likely a browser version issue. Get the latest version of your browser (e.g. Firefox or Internet Explorer) and it should work just fine.

    Thanks, everyone!

  3. I'll keep that in mind PrimalGoddess. Thanks for the idea. I'm always looking for ways to make this blog and community better. There is still a lot to be done. One step at a time!

  6. I'd second that! Great work, having run a few forums I know how much work it takes to make all this "magic" happen....kudos to the whole team.

  7. Am I clueless? (I AM technically a blond....but, I digress....).

I can't get it to work for the life of me. I've tried everything.

  8. Are you using photobucket, SassaFrass88? If so, copy the "Direct Link" for the photo you want to stick in the forum and then paste the URL between the img tags like I did above. The second img tag needs a slash before it. Sorry it isn't as intuitive as it could be. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll try to help.

  9. Yeah, I was being a dummy. SeanBissell reminded me that the link given to me by Google was not the http://xxx.xxx.jpg pic address that I was looking for.

    Friday brain-drain today!

    Thank you though Mark!

I can't get it to work with Flickr. I've tried putting the URL between the IMG tags but it shows a broken link in the browser. The URL I tried was:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidfish/3898538528/

    I also tried http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidfish/3898538528_1188d6c26f.jpg

  11. This is the URL you want, DaveFish: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2673/3898538528_1188d6c26f.jpg

Right click the photo and click "View Image". Then copy the URL and paste it between the img tags.

This is probbly a dumb question, but how do you get your own photo to show up next to your name, rather than Grok's?

How can I attach a picture to my profile?

That picture above your name (the default Grok one) is your avatar. Hey Mark great sticky, but might I make a recommendation to possibly add another with some popular HTML codes? I've been lazy that in other forums you can just click a button and it instantly does what you want (quote, make a special link, add images, etc). Well I'll add to this thread, I'm not sure what features this forum has but these are ones you can use:

Leave out the star in the second set:

    [quote][/quote*]
    [youtube][/youtube*]
    [IMG][/IMG*]

There are others, but that's all you really need.
