Okay, I got this pimple-sized opening on my freaking thigh (don't ask) that has been bleeding for over 5 hours already. It's literally dripping on the floor as I type!

So now I see that I have VERY thin blood. Possibly because of the fish oil I take (3 grams a day) Or am I missing something in my blood? What do I do? This can't be good!

edit: I'm loving the bright red color though....

  2. Doctor - NOW!

Then stop the fish oil and play around with stuff later, investigate any medical history etc etc...

  4. Put some direct pressure on it with a finger, hard, for several minutes. Take it off and see if it's stopped. If it's still bleeding, put pressure on it for longer. If it's still literally dripping out, I would start to be concerned. Even if you get it stopped, I think a blood test is in order in the near future. Five hours of uncontrolled bleeding is a long time. Unless you have been picking at it, or it's just oozing.

I had a band-aid over it the whole time. I took it off after 2 hours, still bleeding.

Then took it off again after 5 hours, still bleeding. So that's when I let it bleed, and alas, it eventually dried up and now it should be clotted.

That never happened to me before. It's such a tiny scar, like this 。 big.

I wasn't concerned about the bleeding much, despite it being so annoying. I'm more worried about having thin blood. It was really thin and runny, I could feel it when I touched it.

Go to the ER. That kind of bleeding is nothing to fool with.

I understand that if I have an accident and get a cut it can be a huge problem... I can bleed to death right? Should that be my only concern? Or do I have some sort of disorder now?

  9. Put it like this - bleeding from a cut, well, you see the blood and see the problem.
You start bleeding from your liver (or other innards), you're screwed.

Not sure why it would suddenly come one, assuming no haemophilia in the family and so on. Might be missing a clotting factor somewhere. Get it checked out, seriously.

  10. I'm glad it quit bleeding. You should be fine for tonight. But, as I said before, you should get checked out, preferably this week. Your blood could be way too thin, or, as NorthernMonkeyGirl said, you could have some kind of clotting disorder (there are lots of those, I have one, but it makes me prone to clotting, not bleeding).

Dude. Get it checked out. Don't take anymore fish oil for awhile, but remember to tell the doc all the supplements you have been taking and how much of each.

Yeah I'll quit with the fish oil for a while...

  13. Don't be scared, just get checked out. Information is power.

  14. Let me start with a caveat: not a doctor, at all :P

If the spot is where it sounds like, it could have been the femoral artery which is why it kept going, and the reason it didn't clot when you had the band-aid on could be that you pulled the scab off when you removed the band-aid both times ;)

So don't be scared, just get it checked out just in case.

Raphael - This thread is now 16 hours old, and it's been 10 since your last post. Are you o.k.? Did the bleeding stop? Did you get checked out? If you don't mind, post a quick shout out to let us know that you're o.k.

  17. Hope I didn't sound too melodramatic, I was/am prone to nosebleeds - and all advice said if the bleeding didn't stop after 30mins then it's an ambulance job.

    Hope everything's ok!

I woke up today, took off the band-aid, and it looked like it stopped. Hopefully this one's done!

I'm thinking it's time for a physical anyways.
