  1. Before, when I found something I was passionate about health-wise &/ or weight-loss wise, I would try to convince people, but they wouldn't bite, why? Because not visible results by looking at me.

Now, I just keep my mouth shut about being Primal until someone asks me. I now have my husband completely converted and 3 friends whom I THINK are secretively following some of the basics, since they keep asking me questions like, "What do you think about this Atkins bread?" or "So, what about tomatoes?", etc.

This morning, however, I got an email from a diabetic in my office who said: "What's your secret? So I have been busting my butt trying to get in shape and fit my old clothes! I can’t figure out what the heck I’m doing wrong. I’ve been reading that a diet high in protein is the best way to shed the pounds. Is that your experience? Whatever you’re doing is working great for you!”

Hoping I can lend her my book and make a convert out of her!

The disease is spreading! You can't deny results!

Oh, BTW, I started this year out wearing size 14/16 & @ 179 lbs. I went shopping yesterday and came out with a size 8 pair of pants and I am now under 160 lbs.

I've never felt better in my entire life!

  2. Congrats on an awesome transformation...the biggest secret is what you said, let your results speak for themselves...you are the best advertisement going...people can say the images in books or TV are "doctored" etc, but when it is someone they see, there is no denying it!

  3. Yah! Take your coworker under your wing, certainly share the info, be supportive and she'll come around. Good job! The Primal tidal wave grows a little every day.

  5. The secret is NO MORE YO-YO DIETING! Ha ha ha! ;-) (I know you were just kidding, but I had to comment).

I have been battling this damn bulge for the past 5 years since losing it all 5 years ago on CW/ Clean Eating techniques with HIIT and weight-lifting.

I can honestly say that 1. This is eating for life (NOT my old 'Body For Life' eating of lean protein 6x day!!!). 2. I finally got the 'compound exercises' down pat (stupid isolation machines did JACK CRAP for my muscle gain!). 3. I FINALLY melded weight-loss and overall health-improvement together!

I just don't get how I EVER bought into CW's methods for fat-loss, when I knew it was against everything I EVER learned about true nutrition. I knew it didn't make sense, but I was desperate. When you start to climb your way to your 30's and are 20+ lbs heavier than you ever thought you would be, you get panicky! I even tried fat-burners I was so desperate!

Man I love that beautiful light at the end of the tunnel! :-D

  8. Hmmmm....I could. I'll invite her, although she's a single mom and probably has loads to do this weekend, but, and invite won't hurt!

Congrats SassaFrass! We can all be walking billboards for the Primal Blueprint. I've heard it said that you shouldn't ask fat people for diet advice and you shouldn't ask broke people for financial advice.

You have to let them come to you though. Unsolicited advice is never welcome and even when people say things like "I wish I could lose a few pounds" I've learned that often they are just looking for someone to commiserate with and don't actually want to change anything.

  10. Good points Dave. In our recent marriage counseling, we found that women want to nurture and men want to 'fix'. When a woman complains, they just want a sensitive 'ear', not a fix, which is usually what a man is prone to do.

I'm not trying to make a male vs female observation here, but just that sometimes, our human psyche creates this need for 'nurture' even if it's out of a negative nurturing (male AND female). Misery loves company!

Sassa: congrats on loosing that weight and achieving your goals!!! And congrats for being a walking billboard for the PB! How awesome is it that people are approaching YOU for advice - your accomplishments must really show!

I "came out" today. While my husband told everyone about the diet the very first day he went on it, I have been hesitant to reveal what I have been up to to people. Why? Because I don't think they will understand and I hate to preach to minds that are closed, so I typically just keep shut. But when my neighbor asked me why I didn't eat the bun, etc, I decided to let her know and gave her the link to MDA. I don't think she even peaked at it. Well, that made me want to keep it all hush-hush even more. But then I saw a video that someone posted on this forum about how to introduce your friend to the paleo diet and it was so great that I wanted to share it, so I posted it to my FB account last night (along with a link to MDA) and so far 2 people have already ordered the book! Now I feel better.

Way to go Sassa! I'll be seeing my family over the Labor Day weekend, we are attending a wedding. Although I haven't lost much weight, I know I've lost BF. I'm hoping I get the same reaction from them. Good luck converting your co-worker.

Wow, just reading your OP there I am so grinning!

I think that's a big diff between primal (and similar) and most other weight loss diets. Results.

I know I won't have any trouble keeping the weight off when I reach my goal of 200 because I'll be SO glad to ramp up the good veggies.

To blockquote, use (phew it's hard to get the forum to represent tags without parsing them):

    [blockquote]blah blah blah[/blockquote]
    Where [ == < and ] == >

I did finally start having to use a belt today cause my pants wouldn't stay up (down 20lbs in 3 months)..unfortunately when you lose weight this fast it's not worth it to go shopping for clothes along the way. Oh well. :)

  21. I started in May, but technically, I've lost 10 lbs going Primal, the other 10 were mainly following the CW methods, even though I personally stopped utilizing all bread products because somehow I just KNEW they were hurting me, somehow.... (then, when I DID have a piece of whole wheat bread, the stomachache that followed REALLY led me to this site).

Technically the scale hasn't really moved that much (10 lbs), but I know that I was a LARGE 12 in May and now a regular size 8 now, so definitely leaner since going Primal! Not to mention that I don't 'bump up and down' anymore. It's steady, all the way. (I can't tell you HOW many times I was up and down with the same 10 lbs over the past year!), that's why my friends and coworkers are really taking notice. It's a TRUE loss in terms of leanness.

  22. Being a lifelong skinny person (apart from the creeping mid-life "skinny fat" belly I'm working on shedding) makes it doubly difficult because hardly anyone notices any real change, and when they do (improved muscle tone, etc), the fact that I've never been fat somehow counts against me because obviously I wouldn't know a thing about losing weight... *facepalm* Sometimes you just can't win!

Sassa, here is the link to the video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCFZoqmKf5M

And the running total is FOUR people have bought the PB just today b/c of my facebook post!!! And that is the four people that have actually told me about it - who knows how many people read it but don't really talk to me (ya know how FB is - some people are in your loop while others are not so much). And one of my friends actually lives in Maple Valley! I am so happy!

Similar for me...I've technically only lost 10 lbs or so since I started primal in June, but I've been at this weight before (thanks, yo-yo dieting) and I've never looked this good at it. I went from a size 14 to a 12, and I think I'm getting close to a 10 because a pair of 'small' 12s that I had trouble wearing in high school now fit me (small as in noticeably smaller than the majority of 12s).

I agree that this is a lifestyle change, not just a diet I'll follow until I lose the weight...I feel fantastic and I have no interest whatsoever in going back to the conventional way of eating, which is much different than any other 'diet' I've been on. The 5-6 small meals a day, low-fat, low-cal routine left me feeling hungry all the time and prone to binging. I've gotten over my huge sweet tooth, to the point where I feel over-sugared after eating what amounts to less sugar than I used to eat on a regular day back in CW-ville. I'm way more sensitive to my body's needs, and it's awesome. Now if only I could convince more people...

    BOOYAKASHA SassaFrass!!

That's freaking awesome. I did almost exactly the same weight/size change as you. Though I'm pretty tall and when I was 14/16 I had a bit more weight than that.

Are you in the US? 'Cause Ann Taylor Loft is the ultimate ego boost. I can fit in a smaller size there than another major chain (i even bought a size 6, 6!!!!!)

Won't they have ribs, burgers, or steaks? Or only hot dogs?

On the surface, it sounds like you are carrying coals to Newcastle.
