SURVIVAL WEEK- Sept 21-25

Had 3 pork sausages today, some eggs, a chicken leg.
Water.
No cravings.Posted 5 months ago # -
Okay, so this is my 2nd carnivore day in a row and I don't really like the way I feel. Physically, I felt kinda shaky and antsy (esp while I skipped breakfast today). I did crave fruit and drank a lot of tea and was thirsty a lot for water. It was hard to cut up pineapple for the girls, but I didn't take a bite! I also just feel oily and just plain gross from so much fat and meat. Maybe I don't really need that much? I think my future meat days will be better b/c this has been a learning process for me.
B: IF
L: half a rotisserie chicken (white & dark meat)
S: a can of coconut cream (WTF?!?!)
D: 9 coconut shrimp (which had almond flour as well)WO: sprints
And okay, I had a bite of the cauliflower I made for the family. My youngest toddler daughter also shoved a cheesy primal cracker in my mouth and 2 macadamia nuts.
I really shouldn't have eaten an entire can of coconut cream. I just needed SOMETHING besides meat and since I was allowing myself coconut products, well, I chugged a can of coconut cream. The girls did help me though, but still. Jesus. An ENTIRE can?!? It surely did the trick though!
Tomorrow is my first IF day. I hope I survive.

You will, Dear. But if you really start feeling bad you can totally end the IF. Promise?
Posted 5 months ago # -
Oh yeah, if I can't take it, I will end it, but I am pretty stubborn and will make it.
Oh and I calculated my nutrients on Daily Plate today: almost 2000 cals (thanks to that can of coconut cream!), 27g carbs, 87g protein, 181g fat. I really wish I hadn't eaten that coconut cream...

I think there are a lot of worse things you could have eaten ;-) Remember how we used to eat???
YIKES.Posted 5 months ago # -
Yesterday was just as planned. I couldn't skip lunch, I was SO hungry all day. I was able to refrain from snacking though. I don't know how I can ever IF.
Day 3!
Breakfast- 3 eggs, 3 turkey sausage links
Lunch- tuna with mayo, bacon, on a bed of cucumbers and tomatoes
Dinner- sirloin steak with a caesar salad
15 Grams of carbs
Workout- 45 minutes of hiking or some other cardio if it rains.
Posted 5 months ago # -
Okay today is:
B: I had a tablespoon of almond butter at home, but wasn't hungry for my hanger steak and eggs (I know, weird right?) so I brought 3 hb eggs and 8oz of hanger steak for a later breakfast when I get hungry.
L: Bison meatloaf, this time with a pat of butter on top (I had way too much protein and not enough fat yesterday, trying to up the fat %)
D: Not sure yet. Maybe a salad with the hubby, maybe leftovers at home. Depends on if/when he has to work.WO: 45 minutes walking, and that might be it. Still sore from rock climbing! Actually I'm more sore today than I was yesterday. I'm totally doing more rock climing, maybe once per week :)

rock climbing sounds so fun!
DH did really well yesterday- ended up with 30 carbs. He ate an entire bag of pork rinds though- he is a carby evening snacker so I think he's going through his snack withdrawals now.
Today I've got eggs, canadian bacon, coconut oil, apple, hamburger wrapped in lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, avocado (there will be alot of this the next couple of days cuz I made a huge batch of hamburgers), more of the same for dinner. Will post carb count later.
Some kind of hike after work.
The weather has been SO beautiful this week!

Today, IF, IF, IF... Trying to make it to 24 hours at 7 p.m. I think I can, I think I can. Really hard not to eat, though, b/c I have pork roast in the crock pot and green beans with bacon on the stovetop. This is my first big fast, and most of the day was easier than I thought because of keeping busy (except for an early headache). These last couple of hours are HARD!
Posted 5 months ago # -
Just under an hour to go, Wendy. You can do it!
Ended up with 39 carbs today. Changed my food up a bit- ended up going to Red Robin and had a cobb salad and then the hamburger stuff for dinner. Was totally not hungry at all today. I SO love that feeling.
Blew off my hike cuz, well, I just didn't wanna :-p

Okay gotta go to bed, but here's the rest of my day:
B&L as planned
D: Currito, it's a burrito place, where we had salads. Just some romaine, topped with steak, guacamole, and pico de gallo for me (hubby added some jack cheese), oh and some cucumbers. Then one more tablespoon of almond butter an hour or so later.Walked as planned, will go to the gym for lifting tomorrow!
Total carbs: 20. not bad :)

I did it! Made it through my first 24 hr fast. It killed me, it was so hard. I woke up with a headache and didn't have coffee so that made it worse. Felt like vomiting. Then had some black tea and that helped. Around 2pm, I felt much better. Broke the fast, thought I had control and then LOST IT. I ate 2 apples, egglplant parm (twice as much as DH ate), handful of macadamia nuts, and dark chocolates (yes, that was a plural after chocolatessssss). I'm not counting it, but it's pretty typical of me to eat nuts and chocolate before bed on a usual night. I just didn't have any self control. My head still hurts. Now I am officially done gorging. I broke the challenge rules: no nuts and no chocolate - nope didn't stick with that one tonight - but I will do better tomorrow!
I couldn't have made it through my first IF without Wendy! Thanks Wendy! You were great support!

don't beat yourself up...you will do better next time :) how bout next time just trying a little IF?

Today was a really easy day today. I had a great amount of energy. I fell asleep at about 9:30 after I had gone to CrossFit and here I am at 4am wide awake...been up since 1, ugh.
B - IF
L - Big salad with turkey, 1 hard boiled egg and a ton of veggies
S - Broc and Cauliflower with a few walnuts
D - Small piece of veal and then eggs with chicken sausage.
S - TunaMy lowest carb day yet at 26g
I find the best way to come off an IF and not want to eat everything in sight is to really fill up on water before having my meal. That way I have my big salad and feel soooo full.

Sofia great job with the 24 hour fast, I haven't done one that long yet! I think about 18 or 20 is all I've done. Today should be okay, here's the plan:
B: 3 eggs cooked in bacon grease, 3 pieces bacon, 1 tablespoon almond butter
L: Work lunch, I was able to order a bread-less sub! So meat and veggies (kinda like a salad I guess, I've never ordered from this place before so I dunno what it'll look like).
D: Tilapia cooked in coconut oil with mango salsa (easy on the salsa for me, it's mostly for hubby)WO: Lifting today! It will be my first official day back in the gym for 3 months, it will be nice to have heavier weights to work out with. I plan on doing a full body circuit, 20-30 mins, and then being done (and sore tomorrow :)
Hopefully I'll have time to knit today too, I didn't get to at all yesterday! Gotta practice, I have another niece on the way and I want to make her a blanket :)

I love knitting, Hanna, but haven't done it in ages! I really should make some cute stuff for my girls this winter. I seem to go through my craft "fads" - most recently, it has been scrapbooking, but actually lately, I am most obsessed with reading about nutrition!
I wish I had done better after breaking my fast, and I am kinda kicking myself over it, but it was a learning experience. At any rate, I am sure I didn't eat enough to totally ruin my fast (like I didn't eat an entire day's worth of food), so maybe I didn't do THAT much damage. I am surprised at how difficult it was to fast, actually. Given that I have been eating primally for 3 months now and did 2 carnivore days in a row before fasting - you would think my body would be on auto pilot fat burning machine and I should have been able to coast. Maybe most of my problem was just the lack of coffee (I am a huge addict).
Also, I am wondering if maybe next time it would be easier to eat breakfast and then start a fast until breakfast the next day. My biggest worry there is getting a good night's sleep, but it seems if I can get to sleep, that would be an easier fast. I dunno. I might try it next time.

great job, sofia!
DH ended with 68 carbs yesterday. He was so excited because he thought he was at 11 but then when he put his food into fitday he realized the 2 bananas he had put him over 50. He was so shocked. Said that was a real eye opener.
Today I've got eggs, canadian bacon, coconut oil, hamburger/tomato/pickle/bacon concoction, maybe a little cheddar on that, apple, more of the same for dinner.
Some kind of hike when I get home from work.
Dude at work stopped by and said that he just bought a pair of vibrams. SO JEALOUS. I can't even stand it.
Posted 5 months ago # -
It's lunch time and I'm not hungry. Do I eat anyway or wait? Blood sugar is a stable 105 so I think I'm going to wait and see what happens...
Posted 5 months ago # -
Sofi, that's admirable. 24 hrs is tough when your body's not up to the challenge, for whatever reasons.
DCKMB, that's awesome that DH is doing so well. He's in the middle of his own personal learning curve.
I haven't eaten in over 48 hrs, so my last post, 2 days ago is current. I DID, however, make up a primal pizza for the 3 yr old yesterday and I shoved down 3 pieces before I went into total sodium shock!
Today I ate around 11 am, if you call a spinach-protein-coconut-oil shake 'eating'.
I have some grass-fed pemmican, eggs, nitrate-free/ uncured bacon & Canadian bacon in my under-the-desk fridge here at work, but I'm trying to work up an appetite.
This whole 'sick' deal has me out of sorts. A friend pointed out that my lack of sleep has probably left me open for sickness. Sigh....I just can't get enough time in my day. If I workout, it has to be in the AM, which means that I have only 30 minutes to spend with hubby before I have to hit the sack!
My commute is killing my sleep :-(

Sassy, I thought you were working from home now? So sorry you are still feeling crappy.
Well, I have still not eaten lunch. I think I'm going for an impromptu IF !! Testing blood sugar every 2 hours to make sure and it's at 93 right now. Will check one more time before I head home and then eat dinner about 5pm. That will make a 9 hour IF.
Posted 5 months ago # -
Nope. If there is a natural disaster (ie it rains for more than one full day here in Seattle, then the dam holding the water back from the Green River will flood the river's flood banks), THEN I will be working from home.
Company is working on getting me a laptop ASAP. It would be good AND bad, in that the company will lose money and much of the South-Seattle area will be devastated, as will many of our local farmers :-(
But....that will mean that I can save on daycare and gas! I hope that for everyone else's sake, that it's a mild winter. But, should anything happen, it would be a bitter-sweet blessing for me.

Sass, sorry about all your woes. No sleep and feeling sick is no fun!!!
DCKMB, nice work on the impromptu fasting!
Well, I made it the last few hours last night, actually until a half-hour past the 24 mark! (Not by choice, that's just when we got home from Kylie's soccer practice...) The roast pork, artichoke and green beans with bacon were all SO GOOD!!
Today I have noticed a lack of hunger, maybe from the fasting, and, I'm down another pound, so that makes about 9 total since I started just over a month ago!
B: three sausage links, coffee, bit of heavy cream (supposed to be on no dairy, but out of coconut cream. What's a girl to do?)
L: taco salad with no shell, shredded chicken, guacamole, sour cream. Yum... Did have a bite of Kylie's beans. Water.
S: Coffee, with more heavy cream. (Kinda tired today, don't know if that's leftover from fasting or just from life in general).
D: Maybe grilled burgers? Don't know. DH has been sickish, so I don't know if I want to bother making much if he's not really going to be eating it. Kylie also asked for pizza yesterday though and we didn't have time.OK, off to do dishes (again, already? Didn't I just wash all these same dishes yesterday? LOL.) and make some almond bread.

Cute Pic Wendy! 9 lbs? Wahooo!
Posted 5 months ago # -
Thanks, Sass! :)
Just logged today into Fit Day out of curiosity, and 72:24:5 fat:protein:carbs percentage. I think my dinner intake was more than normal all around and I feel a little stuffed, but at least the whole day was only 30 g carbs.
After yesterday, I kind of can't wait to fast again next week and see if it's easier!!
Posted 5 months ago # -
39 carbs today. ketosticks say moderate level of ketones.
yes, cute pic, wendy!
Posted 5 months ago # -
Yesterday I had 3 eggs and an entire package of fat dripping bacon for "brunch", and a half pound of hamburger for dinner. Water.
Today I had more hamburger for breakfast, two packets (1 serving each) of almond butter for a snack and two bratwurst for dinner. Water.
Not carnivore, but still good.Posted 5 months ago # -
wow kl, that is good! I haven't been strictly carnivore this week either, I still feel odd eating only meat in front of other people...I'll gladly eat only meat for breakfast and when I eat lunch at my desk though!
Today went as planned, but with some pork rinds and 2 tablespoons coconut butter added in around dinner time. That left me with 18 carbs, woot!
Workout was good! I haven't done any lifting/gym stuff in three months, which was awesome really. I got back into the gym, and had absolutely no desire to go into the cardio room, which is what I needed to break myself from over the summer :) Mission accomplished! I need my hubby to go with me to help with bench press and to teach me how to use the squat cage, maybe he'll go with me next week.

The Good: I lost a pound and one inch off my waist. My hunger was very low today after fasting yesterday. I did two workouts (HIIT and pilates). I ate only 3 planned meals (plus a dessert that was planned), but no random snacking (very unusual for me).
The Bad: I had some nuts in my salad and in my dinner, and I had some dairy in my dessert so it was a little "cheating".
B: scrambled eggs, bacon
L: chinese chicken salad
D: salmon patty w/ pinot noir glaze and almond-garlic roasted cauliflower
S: coconut milk "jello" with warm berries (simmer milk, coconut milk, & agar - then cool and top w/ warm berries). Wendy, this recipe came from your book.Wendy, 30g carbs?!?! Wow, that's awesome! I am also excited to try to fast again and see how I do this time. The first time was like a learning lesson.

Okay plan for today:
B: 1 slice pumpkin pie (hubs asked me to help him finish the last two slices, what a bum!) made with organic canned pumpkin, coconut milk, and a pecan crust (not a stitch of sugar!). 3 eggs fried in bacon grease, 2 pieces bacon.
L: 6oz hanger steak
D: "Breakfast Sandwiches" from Son of Grok's website. These are good! I'm not usually a fan of the pancake/bread replacement things, but these are just egg and shredded coconut, and they go great with bacon and eggs :)So far I'm at 11 carbs, dinner should give me another 11, so 22 for the day. Not terrible. That's only around 1,400 calories though, I'll see if I'm still hungry after dinner.
WO: Just walking! My butt/shoulders/abs/thighs are sore today! It was a good workout yesterday though, I actually felt strong :) People were staring at my purple vibrams the whole time, but I'm pretty much over that now!

It looks like everyone is doing such a great job this week! Keep it up! I'm so proud of myself for what happened yesterday. Around 4:30 I was given 2 free tix to an event at a country club that had wine/alcohol tasting and a ton of food sampling from local restaurants. I did so well and managed to avoid every single dessert while my friends chowed down on them!! This is a huge milestone for me!
So yesterday was:
B - IF
L - Big salad with turkey, hard boiled egg and a ton of veggies
S - Walnuts and a little tuna right before the event
D - a mix at the food tasting of lamb, pepperoni type stuff, teriyaki beef on a stick(prob the worst thing I ate carb wise), some mixed veggies & 2 glasses of red wine and a taste of a margaritaI calculated my carbs to be around 35 + alcohol...not sure how much that has
Tonight will be my next challenge - going to a bonfire and fire spinning at the beach and everyone is bringing "picnic" food. I'm bringing veggies. Will prob bring some jerky or something for myself. I know there will be loads of junk. I'll just have to dance the whole time so I'm not tempted! haha
