Survival Week Continued (Nov 7 - ?)
(63 posts) (12 voices)-
Some people had mentioned that they were going to continue "survival week" style eating for another week or so.
Since I'm doing that, I thought I'd start a thread for anyone else who wanted to join in so we can chat this week.
Who's in?
Posted 1 week ago # -
I'll join in, since I didn't do so hot last week.
Posted 1 week ago # -
yeah i'm back in too since i had 2 days with carbs at 52g & 60g whoops!
Posted 1 week ago # -
I'm defo in - gotta love minimal carbs! :))

I'm starting on Monday. I went too strict on the last survival week I did, could barely concentrate on work and felt lousy. I lost one pound, rebounded horribly and have gained 5lbs in the two weeks since.
I will try an all meat week from Mon - Fri to reset myself, but no IFing because I think that's what screwed me up last time.Posted 1 week ago # -
I'll be with you all in spirit! No official internet til Wednesday. Nearly every day is Survival Week these days- lol.
Today-
B: IF
L: Whatever I can find before 4pm. Some bacon, some pork loin, a couple figs and some apple cider. I know, carby carby!
D: Will be IF. Working 4 to about 1 am.

I'm in - after a piggy day today!
Sorry, I should rename it a "gourmet day".Tomorrow will be cold roast leg of lamb, gravy from it's juices, plus a combination of cauliflower / cabbage.
Grokette's hunting and foraging went well today, you see ;)Posted 1 week ago # -
I'm in! Trying to stretch the groceries another week anyways.
Had an interesting experience last night. My toddler was feeling really ill, he was sluggish, had a bad tummy ache and just not himself. I was really worried. After he didn't eat any dinner, I was more worried and made him a fat smoothie. Coconut Oil, heavy cream, some cocoa powder and frozen strawberries. He sucked the whole thing down and felt better!!! Yay! His energy levels went back to normal and he told me the bug in his tummy was gone.

Awww bless him!
Mind you, it does sound nice.....!Posted 1 week ago # -
Ooooo...fat smoothie sounds good - decadent, even! Yum! Glad you're little one's feeling better.

It was yummy, pretty rich, but good. :)
Being able to babble about my primal parenting with you guys is great, thanks for indulging me!
Posted 1 week ago # -
It's ok, I'm taking mental notes for when the time comes... :) First jon is to find a Grok though, hehe ;)

I'm in this week!

Into the second week of no coffee. Planning to make it permanent this time. Still having some caffeine-free herbal tea. Thinking this winter I might try plain hot water in the mornings.

I'll be here! Last night we went to a game night with friends, and they had A LOT of cookies. Store bought sugar cookies and homemade peanut butter cookies. Now, I don't like peanut butter cookies anyway, and I'm not a fan of store bought sugar cookies, but cookies used to be my absolute vice. More than any other dessert, I used to LOVE cookies. It was interesting because even as they were right in front of me and everyone else was eating them, I literally had no desire to eat one. Not even a pang of desire. It was so weird! Usually having cookies in front of me for hours would at least trigger my sugar cravings. I had a good dinner beforehand though, like 10 oz of meatloaf and some almond butter, and apparently that was good enough :)
Yesterday carbs were at 19, and I walked for an hour and a half while I waited for my car at the dealership (oil change and whatnot).
Today I had leftover hanger steak and an egg for breakfast, I only had one egg left or else it would have been at least two :) Then a little bit of almond butter, and 2 squares of ghirardelli 100% chocolate as a treat. So that's 13 carbs so far, and I'm making Tara Tooties eggplant dish for dinner tonight! I'll probably be close to 30 carbs after that.
I'm hoping to keep up the Survival week mentality until I get to 130, then work on maintaining that for a while. All of my clothes fit better at 130, and I wouldn't mind being there as my "normal." Here's hoping I can drop another two pounds this week :)

HannahC, good job ignoring the cookies. I used to be a cookie monster, too. I've found that stuff just doesn't take good anymore plus, then ya just end up feelin' crappy physically & mentally. Not worth it!
Yesterday I started it off with an IF - after the a.m coffee. :) Lunch was 2 fried eggs & 3 slices of bacon. Supper was 2 salmon patties & mashed cauliflower. Yummy!

I'm in for another week! I usually go slack on the weekends and don't feel much guilt about it (I believe in the 20% rule almost above all others!), but it feels really good to stay away from dairy and to have a bit more motivation to stay below 50g of carbs a day during the week.
This past week I really believe that due to 4-5 days of Survival Week I was able to get back to my previously low percentage of body fat that I haven't seen in months. It really happens fast when you eliminate dairy and watch carbs that closely.Posted 1 week ago # -
Hey y'all. Yesterday was kind of not very survivalish for me but I still stayed under 50g of carbs. Today I had some raisins and almonds so the carbs are around 30 or so. It'll be lower tomorrow. :) Moment of weakness.
This morning I was insatiable and just kept eating and eating (but at least it was all good stuff, no junk). Protein shake with coconut milk, then a burger made with beef, an egg, and cheddar cheese topped with sour cream, then the almonds, then raisins, and pork rinds. Luckily after that I finally got full (haha) and haven't been hungry since. So I'll either IF tonight or have a small dinner. I'm not sure why but my body wanted FOOD and lots of it this morning.

I have days like that FNW, and I think it's best to listen to our bodies! As long as we're putting the right foods in, I think everyting else will generally balance out.
Today was our "special" breakfast. It's a family tradition that hubby and I make a special breakfast sunday mornings. Today was coconut flour banana bread french toast, with clotted cream and berries on top. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... and bacon. Gotta have bacon!
Dinner was chicken carbonnara on portobello mushroom noodles. OMG so so so so good. Dear god, I licked my plate. Then I licked my husbands plate! I'm joking but it was really yummy.
Tomorrow I'm going to IF till after yoga. I'm going to make pulled pork in the crockpot for dinner with a salad.
Posted 1 week ago # -
I ended up having dinner... onions sauteed in coconut oil + ground beef + eggs and a bit of white cheddar scrambled together + sour cream on top.
lilEM, your special breakfast sounds really nice. My husband and I have started a similar tradition of waffles (and bacon or sausage) on Sundays, but since he's not here I didn't make them for myself.

Oh FNW I had an "eat everything!" evening instead of afternoon! Dinner was good with TT's beef and eggplant dish, but I was still hungry/wanting to eat after...and I did :) I don't keep non-primal stuff in the house at all (well except for the hub's milk chocolate, but eew) so it was all fine. Just a lot :)
But anyway, today will probably be IF til dinner (I'm not usually hungry all day after a big/grazing dinner the night before). Then the shepherd's pie with mashed cauliflower topping, made with chuck steak instead of ground beef for dinner! YUM! I've even got beef stock going in the crockpot, started it yesterday afternoon. Soup bones, 2 carrots, 6 pearl onions (they're all I have, the rest are going in the shepherd's pie), huge garlic clove, 2 celery stalks. It's going to be delicious :) I've needed beef broth for a few things, so I'm excited to use some of it and freeze the rest. So I'm doing carrots and onions in the pie, no green beans, and especially no peas. I hate peas (and thought it was weird that they were included in the recipe here).
Hopefully hubs will get the dishwasher fixed today...I think I spent a total of 3 hours doing dishes through the day yesterday. I cooked a lot while home by myself, which means I had to keep washing things. Can I count that as constant low level activity ;)

yesterday recap:
total cals=1000
fat:49g
protein:94g
carbs:49g
exercise: 2.8mi runtodays plan
exercise: shred or rest&play depending on how i feel
B: canned pumpkin, shredded coconut, bloobs&almonds
L: BAS :) with albacore, olive oil and lots of raw veg
D: pork chops/broccoli/?something
this should bring my carbs to 40g and i want to that to stick i'll think of you guys if i'm feeling like i want to cave in. i really want to stay under 50g this week! so far so good even over the weekend :)Posted 1 week ago # -
Ate for about 4 hours today, from 8am-12pm. Had 3 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon, and a bison burger with onions and mayo.
My pulled pork is now in the crock pot and I will be eating that starting for breakfast in the morning, after at least 18 hours fasted.
Had a good, short 25 minute circuit workout today.Posted 1 week ago # -
Ah good day :) Sprint workout after work, then I made the shepherd's pie for dinner with Chuck roast, red pearl onions, carrots, and mashed cauliflower on top...SO GOOD!!! Hubs really liked it a lot too, so that's always a good sign.
Lunch was a Jimmy John's Unwich, roast beef/turkey/tomato/provalone wrapped in iceberg. I forgot my mayo, so not much fat, but I was completely fine until dinner with that. Then I ate a carrot while making dinner, dinner was amazing, then 100% dark chocolate, 2 tablespoons of almond butter, and a coconut bar. Carbs ended at 46 :)
Posted 1 week ago # -
Your unwich sounds so yummy!!! MMM. And the chocolatemmmmmmmm and coconut bar. I'm trying not to do any primal baking until my husband is here again so I don't eat the whole batch of whatever by myself. hehe.
Today I didn't eat constantly so that's good. Had some nuts, then a protein shake, then for dinner I made a burger topped with white cheddar, caramelized onions, and sour cream (again). Pretty tasty!

Started yesterday (I'm trying to go mostly carnivore):
Breakfast: tuna out of a can with EVOO and dried laver
Lunch: small tuna salad (tuna, rocket, chopped olives and chilli, oil)
Dinner: 3 venison sausages, 2 rashers of bacon, 2 fried eggsDinner left me unsatisfied. My hunger was sated, yes, but I was left wanting more. I didn't have more, though, but if I'd had a bag of nuts in the house I'd have scarfed them down. I don't know what it is about protein/fat meals but they don't seem to do it for me on some levels. Anyway, onwards and upwards...

FNW, I'm actually happy when the lunch presentations bring Jimmy John's now, it's such an easy option for me! I'm 99% sure the lunch meat isn't something I would buy if I had the choice (it can't be natural/hormone free I'm sure), so I don't consider it completely primal, but it sure is nice to get free lunch sometimes :)
And today my goal is to completely avoid the chocolate/coconut bars/almond butter...I can do it! Maybe. No, I can do it :) I want to make my chocolate bar last the rest of the week, and there are only 3 squares left (big squares, but 3 squares is one serving).
B: IF
L: Italian Wedding Soup if I'm hungry, though I might IF this meal too (we'll see)
D: Not sure. Possibly Beef/Sausage meatballs! YUM! With homemade marinara and broccoli.WO: Pilates at home, walking at lunch time.

I tried something different yesterday. I always IF breakfast, or at least M-F, so yesterday I decided to change it up and try IFing dinner. I ate at 8am and 11:30am and then IFed the rest of the day.
Before I went to bed I started a pork loin in the crock pot and woke up ALL night smelling it, lol! Ate it as soon as I crawled out of bed at 6am! Haha!
I like the idea of IFing in the evenings sometimes since I am busier in the evenings lately and it might work better for my schedule. Plus now I can see what it's like to do my kettlebell workouts with food in me instead of fasted all the time.
So...pulled pork for me all day! Or at least until noon or so and then IF for the rest of the day.Posted 1 week ago # -
i confess! i hit 100g of carbs yesterday whoops and caved into eating 1/2 carrot cake clif bar my hubs had laying around hence me hitting that "high" number lol. low on time and food yesterday BUT i did manage to shred with jillian level II and i did went hard! the calories for the day were around 1400 or so (i think my body likes when i change it up high/lower etc)
today: ZOMG my lunch is amazing today eggs/avocado/evoo/redcabbage etc
the plan:
B: pumpkin, unsweetened coconut, almonds and maybe a glass of almond milk
L: aforementioned egg/avocado wonder
s: apple if needed (this will be my first apple in 2 weeks!)
D: salmon, green beans that need to be eaten
carbs: 46g
fat: 55g
protein: 50g
rest or play today since yesterday i shocked myself into shredding with jillianPosted 1 week ago #
