Survival Week 11/2-11/6

Hope you don't mind me starting the new thread, Diana. I know you are busy moving today.
Time to really rough it out. Things aren't looking so good for Grok. Winter's coming and food is getting scarce.
Guidelines:
1) No alcohol, dairy, chocolate, or "treats."
2) Carbs below 50.
3) IF one meal per day.
3b) Or try going Carnivore.4) Use only what you already have in your kitchen. No new groceries.
How many can you follow? Can you take them all on at the same time? Can you survive?

I'm in! I won't be going carnivore, but I will IF a meal a day. How exciting!

No problemo!
With my new schedule just about every week is going to be Survival Week. I haven't decided if I'm going to participate officially. I'm still waiting on stupid Time Warner to transfer my cable to the new place, so I'm sitting on the floor in the old place, catching up on bills (and goofing off on here.)
Got my schedule for the new jizzob, and it looks like I'm scheduled about 35 hours a week, on top of my regular 40... so basically I will be eating what I can eat, when I can eat. Keeping it Primal of course. Will get in here as often as I can to post. Still trying to find a good way (other than a daily dose of vino) to wind down after working the restaurant. I hope I just get used to it.
Hope to see lots of participants this week! I'll pop in probably Tuesday and see how things are going.
GOOD LUCK ALL! Grok on!

Breastfeeding Grokette modified guidelines:
1) No alcohol, chocolate, or "treats."
2) Carbs below 75.
3) IF one meal per day.
3b) Or try going Carnivore.
4) Use only what you already have in your kitchen. No new groceries.I really need this after all of the indulgences this weekend. (Yes they were primal, but they were still indulgences.)

I got my side of beef today!!! So no new groceries is easy :)
I've been eating 2 meals per day for a while now (3 if I'm hungry, but that's only been maybe 3 times in the last month maybe?), so I'll go for two 24 IF's this week, and maybe carnivore days on the 1 meal days? That should work. Oh, and 100% dark chocolate has become a treat, and I have 2 squares left, so I'll make myself wait until Saturday to eat them :)
I hope you're week goes well DR! I find that taking a little bit longer, warm shower helps me unwind. I love closing my eyes and just standing under the water for a few extra minutes when I've had a hectic day.

i'm in for
1) No alcohol, or "treats" (my treats are dark chocolate, or nut butters)2) Carbs below 50.
3) IF one meal per day. (gonna be breakfast m-f)
4) Use only what you already have in your kitchen. No new groceries.

I woke up this morning and couldn't wait to have a look for the new survival week. I've been away for a few days though so I will have to buy some food today (as I don't even have eggs right now).
So I will participate in:
1) No alcohol, dairy, chocolate, or "treats" (nutbutter, trail mixes, dried fruit, frozen banana with cacao and whipped cream)
2) Carbs below 50.
3) IF one meal every other day (still a newbie when it comes to this so I will take it a little easy)
My big hurdle will come on Friday/Saturday when my best friend comes down to visit me... She will want to go out and I'm not sure how that is going to go... We'll see.

Plan for today:
B: Dinner leftovers, bratwurst and saurkraut. YUM!! Both from a place in my farmers market, just meat and spices, and saurkraut is just cabbage/salt/water :) And delicious.
L: IF
D: Cabbage rolls. Apparently it's cabbage day. Those are amazing though, just half spicy sausage/half ground beef (with some extra spices) formed into a sort of meatball and rolled in a cabbage leaf. Then stacked in the crock pot, a little bit of homemade marinara sauce on top, then cooked on low for 10-12 hours. I made lots so we can have leftovers, and it's the very first use of our grass fed beef!
I'm going to try and skip any other snacks around dinner time (I can't have my chocolate til Saturday, and I need to break my almond butter habit!), so that puts carbs at around 15-20.
WO: Sprints and yoga, probably 25 minutes of sprints (running and stationary bike) and 15 minutes of yoga
Then rendering more beef tallow and knitting :)

I'm in :)
1) No alcohol, dairy, chocolate, or "treats." - I'm modifying to allow splash of milk in tea/coffee. Under 4 cups (of tea, not milk!) per day though.
2) Carbs below 50.
3) IF one meal per day. - I normally miss breakfast anyway
3b) Or try going Carnivore.4) Use only what you already have in your kitchen. No new groceries. - *should* be possible!
Today, no breakfast, and a chicken leg for lunch (I've pre-cooked 3 portions witha paprika and garlic rub for my lunches this week).
Dinner yet to be decided, but I've some cabbage to use up.Good luck everyone!

the plan:
B: IF
L: spinach, zucch. squash, cauliflower, tomato, EVOO & a ton of albacore tuna
S: full fat greek yogurt, hand of almonds & bloobs/loose leaf green tea the hubs bought me
D: hearty piece of salmon, red cabbage maybe some green beans?
exercise: 30day shred
carbs=34grandom side note: i'm actually quite shocked that i haven't had any "regularity" issues the last 2 months with this lower carb thing(used to eat 125-175g)...maybe it's all the natural whole foods/leafy veggies? whatever the case i'm happy and feel great!

Todays plan:
I am not a happy woman today. I spent all night with two pukey kiddos. :( On top of that, I am frustrated because I have to drive 4 hours to the city to fix my braces, because I somehow broke one. This will definitely make primal eating hard, as we will be staying with my MIL. Queen of margarine, wonderbread and raman noodles. sigh...
I was planning to IF and eat a nice big juicy steak dinner but...
IF, bring chicken cesear salad to MIL house. Also, bring left over almond butter brownies to share.

GO TEAM!Posted 4 months ago # -
I broke the no dairy rule right off the bat this morning. Had myself a decaf latte with heavy cream. Leftover hamburger casserole and the last of the spaghetti squash lasagna for lunch. And an apple. I may need a break from survival week- I'm not really feelin it today. Kind of depressed actually. I did an at home A1c test yesterday and the results were 6.2 (normal range goes to 5.9)- so if my actual lab work comes back with a similar number, I will not be happy. I will cry my head off in fact, because that means I will have to start taking metformin again.

DCKMA-Take a deeeeeeep breathe and don't stress. It's ok to take a break and allow yourself room to feel. Even if that feeling isn't a good one. Just try to keep everything in perspective.
I too stumbled. This entire vacation although intended to be cleansing and re-aligning, in fact brought up a lot of un-tackled emotions from some events earlier this year. I ate, and ate, and ate. Mostly things that couldn't even begin to be considered good for me. I repeatedly beat myself up for it, told myself I wasn't good enough to do any better. Even this morning I had granola, and sugary yogurt, and cream and sugar in my coffee... Then I went and sat by the ocean, and remembered that I can be anyone I want to be and do anything I want to do, and that the earth keeps turning no matter what I put in my mouth.
I'm still in on Survival Week, but will wait until I arrive home (i.e., tomorrow evening) to tackle it full on. Mine will probably last until Sunday, and even when i'm eating 'perfectly' the earth will keep spinning!
Smile!

Okay I added some mixed nuts, almond butter, and coconut butter to my tally...what can I say I was hungry after my workout/before dinner! I'm stuffed now though, so no more food tonight. Still only 23 carbs though :)
WO was good, sprints at the gym! And now I'm rendering beef suet into tallow, in the oven this time instead of on the stove, and knitting. Have a great evening everyone!

Today turned out to be a carnivore day - flank steak, pot roast and turkey thigh - perfect for a kick off!
Off to a walk in the forest in honor of the full moon!
Hang in there lil_earthmomma - it'll all work out somehow!

Better late than never, right? Joining late but will do my best for the rest of the week. Need a bit of extra motivation to not eat Halloween candy.
1) No alcohol, dairy, chocolate, or treats. No butter will be hard!
2) Carbs below 50.
3) IF one meal per day.I do this already, Mon-Fri till lunch.
4) Use only what you already have in your kitchen. No new groceries.
Thanks for the motivation!
Today I fasted till noon, had eggs and bacon, and then ate candy. :( Had a good circuit bodyweight workout this morning.
Tomorrow I will fast for about 25-20 hours and have a good heavy kettlebell day.Posted 4 months ago # -
I'm gonna try to post from my phone. Internet still isn't transferred. You're all starting out great so keep it up. Hopefully I can log on for real tomorrow. I feel so left out -lol. Keep it up y'all!

Decided to use the red-eye flight as a reason to do a 24 hour fast.
I haven't eaten since 10:30am and won't until tomorrow night or even the next morning. In fact, this fast may be somewhere along the lines of 36-40 hrs. With the exception of coffee of course... :) yay survival week!Posted 4 months ago # -
Everything's a bit off kilter for me this week as I'm having to take hefty several medications to try and kick my sciatica into touch. This pain is sickening. Anyway, still managing to keep within the rules, except the no grocery shopping one - we tend to shop more frequently than that and I wasn't able to do proper food shopping at the weekend due to hardly being able to walk! Ouch! Thank goodness I have a willing OH to fetch good food.
Still, very pleased that I haven't succumbed to non-primal comfort food to make me feel better (because I would only feel rubbish later).
Good luck to everyone!

so yesterday could have been worse lol (don't feel too bad as lately my carbs have been 50g or less the last 2 weeks. i skipped the exercise due to some bad work news and relaxed. total cals for the day the highest they've been in a while! 1451cal, 102g carbs, 98g protein, 73g fat. back on track today!
B: IF
L: raw almonds, carnation instant breakfast, about 25 bloobs, olive oil shooter (um running late this morning haha)
D: bacon & eggs FTW!
S: almond milkfitday stats today (i'll prob add some snackage in here/make dinner bigger later since that seems pretty low)
cals: 592
fat: 38g
carbs: 25g
protein: 41gPosted 4 months ago # -
Yowza my sides are so sore from sprints yesterday! I love that though, my sides are what I'm trying to slim down. The soreness means I worked 'em :)
Today will be a nice long walk I think, because it's supposed be clear and 52-ish, perfect fall day (with a jacket and pants of course).
B: IF
L: IF
D: Hanger Steak! First steak from the grass fed side of beef, I'm pretty excited about it. I have broth left over from the cabbage rolls as well, so I might have that too (yum :) We'll see how I feel after that, it might just be a carnivore day.Posted 4 months ago # -
Sounds like a few of you are having tough weeks :/
Work was pretty physical today (digging trenches, chasing sheep!) but it was noticeable that I need to be stronger and fitter.
Anyhow, Day 2...
No breakfast
Lunch - 2 chicken drumsticks and a thigh
Dinner - lamb neck and liver, slow-cooked wih onions, rosemary, and sage.3 cups of tea with splash of milk.
Am really craving biscuits and chocolate, but have none in the house thank goodness!
Fitday stats (probably inaccurate as they don't have entry for neck of lamb - it is full of fat and bone, so I think my protein count will be showing as too high)
Cals- 1,561
Fat - 91.4 (53%)
Carb - 17.6 (4%)
Protein - 156.3 (43%)
Plus 4 small cups of black coffee!

fasted for 24 hours (with a coffee caveat) then my mom brought me some almonds and walnuts when she picked me up from the ferry this morning. So I broke my fast with a half cup or so of those. I will skip dinner as I have a myriad of things to do tonight.

:(
I caved in...so became an exercise in damage limitation!
Day 2a..!
"cake" of 2 tbsp coconut flour, egg, splash milk, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, pinch sugar. On the plus side, I drastically reduced the amount of cocoa and sugar used! And I 'fessed up, instead of my usual denial...!

Wow, it's harder than I thought to stay away from dairy. I wanted a fast snack today and couldn't reach for the cheese or the whey protein.
So far:
Breakfast: nada (19 hour fast)
lunch: 3 eggs cooked in bacon fat, 3 pieces bacon, avocado, and spinach on eggs
Snack: almonds and pumpkin seeds
Mid afternoon: chicken baked with pork rind "breadcrumbs"...was disappointed. The chicken was tough.I am at about 19g of carbs for the day so I may be able to indulge in some coconut milk/frozen strawberry blended yumminess tonight. Or I may be done eating for the day...teaching 3 circuits tonight and I am usually not hungry when I get home, so that 3pm meal might be it for me today.
Workout today really kicked my butt. Did heavy kettlebell work for 45 minutes and ended up only having one student in my bodyweight circuit class so I did the workout with her, too...20 minutes of high intensity work. Had to take a nap this afternoon to recover. :)

Yesterday I had some 'Primal Cumin Squash Stew' that hubby made (soooo good). THEN, well, I had a plethera of Halloween candy. I just went 'balls to the walls'!
Today, IF with spinach and distilled water shakes.
The shakes got rid of my nasty belly bloat, but I'm hungry. Must.....resist.......primal.......stew....leftovers....in.........fridge........
