Sunflower oil a paleo option?

I was wondering if you considered sunflower oil to be a paleo option since eating the seeds is "allowed"?
Any comments welcome!

Maybe at a stretch if it is cold pressed. It's not like Grok squeezed sunflower seeds for oil.
Most modern oils are chemically extracted though and this is bad. They can also contain transfats.
The best ingredient for greasing up food is animal fat. Lard is fantastic and has replaced almost all oil/butter/etc use in our house.

I'd say no, because of the sheer quantity of sunflower seeds the oil equivalent represents. When eating the seeds you wont get a whole lot of oil compared to the amount it's possible to consume when it's been refined out of the seeds. It'll be knocking your Omega 3:6 ratio way in favour of Omega 6 anyway which isn't a good thing and good remove one of the major benefits of eating grass fed beef.
As Tarlach mentioned there's far better paleo alternatives like lard, butter and coconut oil anyway.

Butter isn't paleo.

Thanks guys! I am just trying to find something I can cook with that is affordable, paleo and not lard since I cannot bear the smell when heated.

Maranne-- what about coconut oil?

HI Ecala,
Coconut oil is very expensive where I live but I will have to bite the bullet I guess or just change my mindset when it comes to putting value on food?:)

Apologies on butter as a paleo food, I use it regularly as due to my ancestry I have a good tolerance for dairy foods but I appreciate that this doesn't apply to everyone.
