  1. Anyone take this as a fiber supplement? We all know the disadvantages of too much fiber, especially from grains, but I've seen improvements by taking one serving a day. Im almost positive I've seen Mark comment that he takes it as a supplement daily also.

It is basically an ingestible fiber that binds to water to help with digestion. You can actually see it bind to water in a glass if you let it sit for a minute or two, pretty cool stuff. Some studies also say it helps control blood sugar and cholesterol (obviously), but I use it as more of a additional insurance that my digestion is in prime condition. Just thought id let everyone know about it.

  2. I use it when I do a colon cleanse (with Bentonite Clay). I stopped using it since going PB, however, as it is a fibrous carb and I thought it was like a grain, as far as the effects it has on your digestive system?

I used to use it for fiber, but now that I have ZERO digestive issues (ie constipation) since being heavy in my fat and meat intake, I haven't felt the need to take my previously beloved Phsyllium husk.

Ideas? Scientific input? I'm not sure.... (Didn't know that Mark supplements with it....)

You don't need fiber. That's a myth started a hundred years ago by two crackpots, Dr's. Kellogg and Graham. They thought increasing fiber (it's not even fiber, really) would diminish sexual urges. And sell corn flakes and flour.

How did Grok possibly get by w/o Benefiber?

  4. OTB I agree that we dont NEED it, just like we don't need to supplement with a multivitamin, or whey, or even extra omega 3s (this one is a little different). But, it's just an extra insurance. I like to take it after or during IF, just to help the colon out (if it needs the help) while it's not busy actually digesting food. Just an idea, I can almost guarantee Mark takes it and/or said that in a blog post... Don't remember where as I read the whole thing ha

  5. I'm no nutritionist but after 30 days of what has to be the lowest fiber eating month of my adult life.. I'm inclined to believe the fiber supplement thing is a hoax.

I don't think there is any "extra insurance" to taking it. I think it just bulks up in water/fluids in and then you pass it.... why bother?

Why the F**k would you eat the HUSK of a plant?? I know it is a supplement, but if you really are convinced that it is healthy you have bought into a marketing hoax.

I searched the site for "psyllium" and found these

I wouldn't presume to speak for Mark, but unless he's changed his tune of late, I don't think he'd be first in line for psyllium.

What's weird is that I started taking this in a glass of water/grapefruit juice in the morning and then started having a lot more trouble going to the bathroom than I did before. I thought it would help with the level of my "bad" cholesterol. I stopped using it about a week or two.

Off topic - how do you add a photo or image for your member tag on the left side like so many people on here have? I don't see an option on the profile page. Thanks

EGY, what are you "insuring" against? Fiber causes far more problems than it allegedly "cures." See recent thread about my 92 y/o mom with severe diarrhea for months on end. Best docs, hospitals, no cure. Finally, she would do anything. I got rid of the fiber in her diet and she's been diarrhea free for well over a week now.

    CW dies a hard death.

  13. I guess I was just insuring a healthier digestive system, it's an extra 6 or 7 grams of fiber, so im assuming its not a large effect negatively or positively. Exess fiber does cause problems, just like excess anything, and even a little of some things. I understand your point, so I'll probably cut back to just IFs.

  14. Also, just to let you know, if you are fasting, you need to eliminate ALL products/ food sources passing through your gut. I've been personally guilty of drinking coffee with cream while 'fasting'.

You need to just drink water, maybe some lemon juice and let your body rest.

At least, this is what I've come to understand, since I used to ALWAYS do colon cleanses.

Now, I realize that all of the 'fix' things that I used to do, kind of applied a band-aid, or quick-fix to my body because it was still being screwed up by excess inflammation foods like oatmeal, excessive amounts of fruit, whole-grain breads, etc.

  15. That wont be too hard I've just come off Ramadan, which is the Muslim fasting month. No liquids no foods or any of that for a good 14-15 hours a day will make anything less seem very easy. Thanks for the tip though.

In the earlier posts on this site Mark recommended psyllium husk and said he took it every day. It wasn't until later that the fiber is bad posts came along. But he and the site evolve just like everyone else. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't recommend it today.
