Yay! Good to see you Sassa!

Hey Sassa. I added you to my favorites so I could keep in touch with you. I think we will meet up at the Seattle Grok meeting, if you will be there. You live in Enumclaw? I live in Maple Valley, so we are not too far from each other! I can't wait to meet you and hopefully make my first primal friend!

Hey ! cool that you have a journal :) ...yum, I am coming to your house for food hehe !

Took me forever to find your journal. This place has gotten nuts! I'm thinking the forum needs a better format for something this huge.
Anyhow, I'm with ya on the wild blackberries and coconut milk. It's so good!

Such beautiful women comes to greet me. Loving it! I will post more later, but away, from my work PC & I am trying to type on my broken mobile with no spacebar!

Ok, so I need to commit myself to my journal. Just got back to the office after my wonderful stay-cay and so much is here for me to do!
I've been mostly primal, with a small cheat at the movies (those kids and their candy and popcorn).
At this point, I should use my competitiveness with my husband to drive me. That sucker is more primal than I am and I converted him!!!
I am, as of this morning, officially 1.5 lbs away from my first goal, which is to be below 160 lbs!!!!
Morning workout: Squats, Lat Pulldowns, Tri-Dips, Cable Rows, Bench Presses, & Reclined Flys.
It's been a while since I went to the gym, but my entire vacation was still lots of activity between cleaning the house, swimming laps at the pool and hiking with the hubby, almost every morning. I even did some body-weight exercises, like pushups, tri-dips, crunches & squats with the toddler on my back!
Breakfast: Not accomplished yet. It's nearly 10 am and I think I am getting hungry. We'll see. It'll be Microwaved bacon and free-range eggs.
Lunch: Crock Pot Pork Roast and some veggies w/ baby Portabellas.
Dinner: Not quite sure. We have a whole Chicken that is ready for cooking, but that might mean that dinner would be very late. Oh well, Football practice ends by 8 PM, so maybe I could leave it cooking while I go to practice and then we could all eat it before bedtime.
I have a feeling that I am going to be sore tomorrow!
Primal BBQ coming up for us Seattlites! Yay!

That's awesome that you're so close to your goal! And definitely good idea about being competitive with your husband. :)
So sad I won't be in Washington to be with all the primals there... but hopefully there are some near where I'm going to live (45 minutes south of Fresno, CA).
Posted 3 months ago # -
Way to go Sassy! You'll reach your goal in no time and you'll have TOTALLY earned it. I like the idea of competing with your husband too. That's some mega motivation. :)

Emily, you're moving to CA? Fresno's awesome! We want to move down there, but no money to fund the move and no jobs lined up!
So, I have my Primal Challenge Contest list:
1. Creat Workout Video (I have some funny and different ideas!).
2. Recipe Video: Hubby will need to help with this.
3. Show your Groceries.
4. Primal Post-Its. Going to store soon, this should be fun!
5. Show your fridge.Today:
Activity: Swimming (last night, did sprints on bike with toddler in-tow).
B: 4 Bacon slices and 4 eggs.
L: Pot Roast &/ or Pork Chop
D: Either hamburger-something-or-another w/ veggies or steak or chicken (depends on which is thawed out the most).Good amounts of water and supplements like enriched greens and fish oil.
I have 2 semi-converts and another, whom I challenged to just 'try' it for a week. That one, however, just wants to tease me about my choices and then still complain that "I think I'm dying because I'm turning 40 and feel like crap", instead of just TRYING this for 1 week. :-( Hmmmmff.... I've got BETTER things to do that waste my time with you buddy!
Anywhoozle. Things are great. Grok and grokettes we are!

Aww you should totally move to Fresno! We could be primal buddies in Real Life. :-D
Get on careerbuilder or something! haha.Posted 3 months ago # -
Going strong!
Last night did end up to be ground hamburger with zucchini, onions and broccoli (did I mention that my husband rocks at Primal Cooking now?!).
Activity: Weights - Deadlifts, military presses, standing shoulder presses, walking lunges, barbell curls, abs.
B: Coffee w/ creamer (the bad kind), 2 eggs & 5 pieces of bacon. Handful of juicy green grapes. OK, I guess I'll be honest, 2 Hershey's Kisses. I'm a bad girl!
L: Left-overs from dinner (ground hamburger and veggies).
D: Steak or chicken and veggies cooked in Coconut Oil.
I do have a peach that is just about ripe in my fridge and should be eaten soon.
Didn't put anything into FitDay, but from the looks of things as of now (not yet noon), I am over my 50g Ketosis daily-target! Tomorrow will be a BBQ with beer, so I'm sure that won't be a good one either ;-)
I'm not sweating it. The more money were are able to budget to finally getting out of this financial hole that we are in and put towards real, grass-fed beef and the like, the better, but for now, we are managing to be about 70 - 80% Primal. For me, that means trying to be about 90% Primal during the weekdays and then 80/20 on the weekends.
Good news! I broke the 160 lbs mark! Yup, I am now 158.25 lbs, as of this morning!!!! Hooray for me!

Note to self: Be more Primal on the Weekends EVEN IF you are doing well during the week! This is a lifestyle, not a diet!
OK, yelling session with myself over.
It's noon and my Coconut Latte protein shake has worn off and I'm hungry.
Problem is, I had ZERO time to get food this weekend, so I am out of eggs and the like. I have tons of meat, but how's one supposed to eat a 2 lb frozen steak with only a microwave in the office lunchroom eh? ;-)
There's a lovely WinCo just down the street, maybe I'll just pop in there and check out what I can find.
I do have a mini fridge under my desk, so I should just by 'desk groceries' instead of constantly toting stuff between my kitchen and the office every day.
So far, my favorite 'in a pinch micro-meal' is eggs and bacon. Add an avacodo and / or a green salad and you have a fast and easy Primal office meal!
OK, time to head to the store!

Went shopping and found some Pork Rinds! Those are great. I figure I could totally bring those along to the movies to replace popcorn. I suggested this to my hubby since he's more strict in being Primal than me (little bastard! ;-) and his one vice is popcorn at the movies.
I also got some almonds, more coconut flakes, bacon, eggs, salad greens & sausage, etc.
One thing to note about Primal eating, is there are noticeably inexpensive staples, like Almond Meal, it's suprisingly very inexpensive! Also, Coconut flakes, Pork Rinds & eggs.
I still have to work on the budget, but we are coming round and have some great local resources for grass-fed beef. Soon, soon, soon, I'll be eating quality meat and veggies like the 'rich' folk! ;-)

Breakfast: microwaved 5 pieces of bacon, 3 eggs with pat of butter, Blackberry muffin, coffee w/ two creamers (icky!) and a packet of sugar.
Lunch: IF, Workout: weights
Dinner: Pot Roast w/ veggies.
Hopefully I can swim tomorrow!

When you microwave bacon, how do you do it?
OMG, a blackberry muffin sounds so good. Do you have the recipe?

Basic Sweet Breakfast Muffins
(obtained from Elana's Pantry)• 3 eggs
• 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
• 3 tablespoons honey (I used some Grade B Maple Syrup)
• 2 tablespoons coconut milk (used homemade)
• 1/4 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
• 1/3 cup packed coconut flour
• 1/3 cup packed almond flour
• 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1. Blend together eggs, oil, coconut milk, honey/ liquid sweetener, salt, and flavors.
2. Combine flours and baking soda to coat the fruit well. Mix into batter until there are no lumps. Pour batter into sprayed small size muffin cups.
3. Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes (20 min for regular sized muffins), or just until tests clean with toothpick.Pecan Muffins
Add ½ cup of chopped pecans and ⅛ teaspoon almond extract.Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins
Omit the vanilla and add 2 teaspoons of lemon extract. Sprinkle poppy seeds on top of muffins just before baking.Berry Muffins
Add ½ cup of fresh berries and ⅛ teaspoon almond extract. Berries should be very dry. Baking time will increase slightly. (Blackberries make this a big messy, moist muffin and it's JUST the way I like it!!! ;-)Posted 3 months ago # -
For the Bacon, I just heat them between two paper towels (for thicker bacon, I suggest a double layer on the bottom) on High heat for about 1 minute per slice (I like crispy bacon).
It's not as good as a pan/ griddle batch of bacon, but it does the trick!

Today, Friday Aug 21st:
Workout: Hike up 1 mile and down 1 mile.
B: Bacon w/ sauteed zucchini & onions (I love my husband. He made this for JUST me while I was showering and I ate it on the drive into work). Had a small cup of coffee with naughty crap creamer (I need to bring some coconut cream into the office and keep it in my mini-fridge, along with some Erythritol, since I hate this Stevia crap.)
L: Plan is to IF and walk a bit around the office building. (I got hit on while walking around the building yesterday. I need to get my wedding ring sized and start wearing it more often!).
D: Most likely steak and veggies and/ or the sausage and veggies hubby made for me for my 'lunch' today.
Tomorrow is the Seattle BBQ!
I need to go to the store for some provisions for: Primal Jambalaya (using octopus and several other 'different' seafood meat), Bacon Jalapeno Poppers (this time I will cut the poppers in half, as they were too big with one whole pepper), and for dessert, Blackberry muffins!
Have a great weekend y'all! :-)

Oooh, nut flour to make muffins. I'm going to have to try that sometime.
Posted 3 months ago # -
How was the BBQ?
Posted 2 months ago # -
Sassa, it was nice to meet you and your family at the BBQ yesterday! Your older son was so cute telling me about how he and your husband made the awesome jalepeno poppers :)
Hope your day today was great! We went up to Everett for Boeing family day and then had lunch at a place on the water in Edmonds in the sun -- a fun day.
What are the local beef sources you're checking out? We have been buying from a grass-fed place in the Covington area that brings beef to the Maple Valley market, but it's kinda pricey. Now we're thinking about getting part of a cow maybe, but storage may be a problem.
Thanks again for all the delicious food! Loved everything you brought!

DCKMB - The BBQ was awesome! I met Wendy1 and Sofiawahaj and they are as beautiful outside as they appear on the forum! :-D
Hi Wendy! I saw that you had a great day in Everett. I take it that either you or your hubby work for Boeing? It was such a beautiful weekend, weather-wise.
We found some local beef resources (here: http://www.eatwild.com/products/washington.html), but Saturday night, I was talking with a friend (she's also on my Facebook) and turns out, not only does she raise cattle out here in Enumclaw, but they are grass-finished!!! She said she could TOTALLY hook us up with a cow! We are watching our budget, so a whole cow might be a problem, but I think we could handle a half cow or even just a quarter cow.
Either way, I bet you, Sofi, myself and possibly anyone else nearby, could split a cow into quarters and save money on the butcher's fees. As for the storage, I've heard of people finding a freezer on Craigslist rather inexpensively, so you may be able to look into that. (I need to clean my currently-unused freezer out. It smells like fish).
Hubby and I were stoked. It's funny how as your life progresses and you become older (and hopefully wiser) you start to get excited about the most unusual things. If you told me when I was 20 that I'd be all excited about buying a 'grass-fed' cow as if it were the newest pair 'Jimmy Choo' shoes, I'd have NOT believed you! Ha ha ha!
Anyway, time to get on with my work day. No more slacking! I have vacation from Thursday until Wednesday!!!! Yay!
Activities for the day: Currently none, but will IF for lunch and do weights at the office gym.
B: Small sugar-free Hazelnut Breve (Yeah, I'm not a fan of 'sugar-free' junk, but it was a treat since I only had 5 hrs of sleep last night after sleeping on my friend's couch in Maple Valley last night. It was a Birthday slumber party).
L: IF, weights in the gym.
D: Steak and veggies.
Time to do some heavy Ketosis, with IF this week. If I am going to be wearing my bikini at the lake this weekend, I best lower the cellulite to surface-skin ratio!!! ;-)

Hey hey Mrs. SassaFrass,
Both Lindsey and myself enjoyed meeting you and your family on Saturday!
It was fun to meet up with everyone, and one of the only times I've ever met up with people *online* before real life.
But we should do it again sometime.
Happy Monday!
-SeanPosted 2 months ago # -
Cool I will check out the link. Has your friend quoted you prices for quarter/half/whole cow? With the Covington place, it gets cheaper the more you buy. Their prices are $5.37 per lb. for a quarter cow; $5.07 per lb for a half cow and $4.77 for a whole cow. Then if we had them do the kill; cut; wrap, it's an additional charge of $75 flat plus .81 cents per pound.
Kevin's dad has a freezer he might give us, BUT we would have to make room for it in the garage... a whole other subject!!
re hawaii, yeah, we are lucky! it is one of the perks of having kevin travel so much. He is actually traveling less now b/c boeing has cut back on travel, but had some hotel and air miles banked.
Have you ever been to the PEAK gymnastics place in Enumclaw with your younger son? They have open play time there several days per week from like 10 or 11 to 1 p.m. -- balance beams, things to climb on, giant trampoline, hanging ropes, etc. Sofi and I have been together before, and it would be fun if we all met there sometime if your work schedule allowed! We could chat while the kiddos play.
Hope your work day goes quickly!!

Hi Sean! Glad to put the face to the online name! ;-) Glad to have met you and Lindsey as well. This was also my first time actually meeting up with an internet friend. The web sure does make the world so much smaller, I think.
Wendy, I still have to check on the price. She did say she could get us a good deal.
We wanted to do the 'PEAK' gymnastics with the 3 yr old sometime, but, again, I'm always at work. I do have Monday - Wednesday off next week, so while the older one goes back to school, I might be available if you and Sofi are also available?
I hope my day goes quickly as well! I'm looking forward to lifting some weights in the gym today. So funny, people are commenting to me lately about how 'disciplined' I am, but I don't feel like that anymore. It's no longer a 'challenge' in motivation, but rather a 'treat' to workout. Whether it's swimming, hiking, lifting weights...I just enjoy it immensely! Maybe I brainwashed myself! ;-)
TTFN!

Hey there Ingrid! I hope I spelled your name right. Can I add you on FB? Or you can add me, just search for "Sofia Wahaj"! It was great to meet you and your family at the BBQ! So nice to have other primals nearby! And I would love to split a cow with you and Wendy. I just gotta figure out storage though. We just bought (like a few month ago) a little freezer for the garage, but it's little. I think we might need to invest in a chest freezer. Let me know if you find out the prices on your friend's cow! And if this is really going to happen, then I will get serious and talk to Dave about securing a freezer!
Wendy and Sassa: How about Monday for a trip to Enumclaw? That's the only day I have available since my Dad and step-mom are flying in late Mon night. I am excited to spend time with them but I don't look forward to their impact on my kids' diets.
