OMG!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I entertained that thought when you said you were nauseous as I'd read on another thread that you guys were trying. HOW VERY EXCITING! I was away from the forum most of the day today and I come here now and see this. Thanks for sharing this wonderful news with us FNW. Lots of hugs to you.

  3. Thanks y'all.

Hannah, my "symptoms" are (i hate that word for pregnancy because it suggests an illness)... my "indicators" are:

    1) nausea omg. Started around Saturday or Sunday, just in the morning at first as soon as I woke up. Then Tuesday, Wednesday, and Today it's been all day long.

    2) not pooping much. But I figure it's because I'm not eating much. ha.

    3) some dizziness when I stand up, again I figured because I'm not eating much right now.

    4) heightened sense of smell. Geez. We have a kitchen trash can with a lid and I have never smelled the trash smell oozing out of it for the whole year and a half or so we've had that trashcan, unless it was like meat waste that had been sitting in it for a week. Now? After a day or two it smells like trash city to me.

    5) Sleepiness. I feel like going to bed earlier, taking naps, etc. Figured it was because when I'm sleeping I don't feel sick, but maybe it's a pregnancy thing too.

    6) Eating weird shit. Apples with honey (normally would be way too sweet for me), bananas (I'm not usually much of a banana fan), bowlsful of black olives, dill pickles. Today for lunch I had a bowl of green beans and bacon.

I thought the apple with honey sounded weird when you mentioned it earlier! Green beans and bacon sounds good though :) I have a S-I-L and two friends in my book club that are all due in March, and they definitely had the "so tired I can't believe it" for the first trimester. SIL was paleo before pregnancy but definitley has taken a break from it, though is still doing crossfit regularly (she's a trainer, and one buff pregnant lady!).

Was your hubby excited when you told him? Did he cry?

    Posted 3 months ago #
  8. Hehe yup, PrimalK. Gotta get a little flight suit for him or her. hehe.

Hannah, I'm really hoping to not "break" from primal. No plans to but unless I find a few more foods I can eat at this point, I might have to resort to graham crackers or something... I have hardly eaten much at all for days and days. I hope this phase is short-lived.
I also don't want to fall into the trap that so many people do of "eating for two." I read somewhere that you need maybe an extra 200 calories a day and that's it. Certainly not "eating for two" as most people interpret the phrase.

Hubs didn't cry. And he didn't LOOK as excited as me. haha. But he's always been rather stoic. I think he's a little freaked out, but also excited. Funny thing is when I asked him to pick up prenatal vitamins while he was out, he bought himself a snickers and me a dark chocolate mounds. He came home and I was like "candy?" and he said he needed the snickers and wanted to get me something too. I was like, "yeah... I don't think I'm gonna eat that." So he ate them both. hahahaha. Yeah, he's nervous.

We both thought it was going to take a LOT longer than this though, so it is definitely an unexpected surprise.

  9. FNW: Congrats!!! I just got on after giving a test, so I was wondering all morning!!! So happy for you, your hubs cracks me up. I hope the nausea is short-lived, and you can get the PB baby going soon! Yay.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  10. Thanks Tara! I hope the sick feeling is over soon too. Ugh! I'm trying to psych myself up to eat a banana. I've been up since about 8 and it's already 11... and no luck so far. I'm STARVING but food is scary right now.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  11. PS another "symptom" I forgot to mention

For the last few days, my temperature has been lower than normal. I'm not one of those people who takes her temp all the time... just that since I was feeling sick I thought I might have a fever, so I checked. And it was around 98. When I went to the doctor, it was 97.something .
It's weird though because I have read that when you're pregnant your temp is generally higher than normal, not lower. But mine has definitely been lower for several days.

  12. Whew, just ate finally (it's 1pm). First food of the day.
most of a banana + almond butter and several raspberries. I got so full though that I had to saran-wrap over my plate and park it in the fridge for later.

I'm off to the drug store to see if I can find stuff to help with nausea - peppermint sticks (I like those soft ones), hard sour candies, maybe mint gum... I know those things are all loaded with sugar but I'm willing to go that route if it will help me feel better.

And then? Driving up to Fresno to look at cars. We're going to try to buy one (offering much less than the asking price though, no budging). Wish us luck!

Good luck with the car FNW! Have you tried prunes for nausea? It's a commonly recommended remedy for nausea back home in India. I've never tried prunes here, so don't know how they taste but the ones we get in India are really sour. Maybe you'll find something of use here:

Something to consider w/ the nausea is a lot of times it is caused by blood sugar dives- which when you aren't eating or cannot eat just keeps making it worse and worse. I know it is so hard when you have lots of aversions, but if you can get some protein in in can really help- at this point whatever you can get into yourself into yourself to help keep those levels stable. Good luck to you! I know it is so hard to eat when you know you need to eat, but cannot force yourself to do it !

  15. No luck on the car... the one we wanted wasn't able to come down to our price point, so no deal. By the time we got to the second place, I was really feeling bad and we were both getting grumpy... the first two we looked at there both had awful funky smells (one smelled exactly like a hair salon) - even my husband agreed, so it's not just my pregnancy super-smell.
Anyway, we left and we'll do more online looking before going out again.

soror, I know I need to eat some protein but everything sounds gross... you know? I am going to eat a sweet potato for dinner (or try) with butter in it. And maybe I will also try to eat some ham lunch meat.

Tomorrow we are having a cookout (scheduled before we found out) so I will try to eat a burger (bunless of course) and see what happens.

I also had the idea that maybe chicken salad would be mild enough and a non-offensive texture... just shredded poached chicken breast with some mayo and some sort of acid (lemon juice, orange juice, vinegar). I think I might be able to handle that.

Also tomorrow I'm going to see New Moon with some friends. They're vampire-loving freaks and I couldn't care less but would like to go out with the girls, you know? Not telling them yet (I will tell them at Thanksgiving). I just hope I can make it through without feeling like total crap. We are getting lunch afterward too - not sure where, but hopefully I will find something non-offensive.

This is tough, you guys! I'm really really excited but it's hard to act excited when I feel like this. :(

  16. also maba - the prunes here are really really sweet, not sour. Not sure what would make it sour... but I will eat some pickles again. Maybe that will help. They are sour. Thanks for the sour reminder.

  17. Oh I can just imagine what you're going through. It seems so foreign to those of us who haven't been there.

That sucks about the car, but the right one will come around at the right time. That seems to be the way it works. Anything specific you're looking for? I highly recommend going for a VW. They last damn near forever. :)

  18. DR I know... it's so weird to me too. In most cases when you feel nauseated like this it's for an easily remedied reason - food poisoning? Vomit and it's over. Flu/infection? Take some drugs and it'll go away...
But nothing but time can make this go away I guess! It's really bizarre to feel this bad and know that it's a sign that everything is normal and right with my body. Very strange.

As far as the car goes, we're mostly looking for a newerish SUVish type car. Something with enough room for us, the dog, 2 car seats (room to grow), and baggage. Something that doesn't get horrible gas mileage and that doesn't look like crap and isn't too expensive. heh.

Today I bought some peppermint candies and sour candies hoping they would help with the nausea while we were out and about. Both FELT like they helped as I was eating them, but afterward I felt worse. Stupid sugar.

When we got home while I waited for a sweet potato to bake in the oven, I ate about half a jar of mini dill pickles... that was pretty good. Then ate the whole sweet potato (surprised myself at that) with about 4 Tbsp butter. haha. Drank water with lemon squeezed in it. I still feel queasy but at least I'm not queasy and starving now.

Didn't try the ham thing... it just does not sound good to me. Thinking maybe hard boiled eggs would be okay though. I gotta find a way to get some protein!

  19. And thanks again for everyone keeping this at MDA and OFF of facebook/twitter and my website.

  20. This morning I woke up and after vomiting for the first time, had some lemon water - that seems to help. Then went to go see New Moon with friends (they're the vampire fans - I just wanted girl time). I chewed peppermint gum during the movie which also seemed to help with nausea.

After the movie we went to Panera and I had some cheddar broccoli soup and an apple - impressed myself by eating all of it.

Then we went to get ice cream. Mistake! I have a headache from the sugar now... ew :(

Tried to take a nap because I'm exhausted, but couldn't sleep.

Tonight we're having people over for burgers. I will try to eat one (bunless) and hopefully people won't stay TOO late so I can get to bed early. Hope it goes well!

    Hi!

I've been lurking around here for a few months, but had to login if only to make a suggestion for the nausea. I had it all day every day the first three months with both kids. With my second, I tried an accupressure band. It fits around your wrist and puts pressure on a certain spot... I found it helped a lot. It didn't get rid of my nausea, but definitely muted it so I could accomplish things. You can find them in travel stores a lot ... or just buy online. It's not too much $$ and frankly it's well worth it!

Just thought I'd throw that out there!

    And congrats!

  22. Ohh... how was the movie? I want to see it, but I'm not a big enough fanatic (and too cheap to pay movie theater prices) so I'm going to wait til it comes out on Redbox.

How did the burgers go? I don't know how you haven't told everyone yet. It would be eating me alive- lol. The peppermint gum idea is a good one. :)

Sometimes I wonder... all the pain, agony and utter yuckiness that women go through when pregnant... why? Why can't it be a more pleasant experience? Why does it seem like our bodies purposely try to rebel? I've never understood it. Morning sickness is such a weird thing. :P

  23. Thanks Minxxa. I might see if the drug store has one of those... and if they will fit my tiny wrist. hehe.

DR, the movie was ok. The other girls LOVED it of course. Much better than the first one. Definitely something to wait to netflix or redbox or whatever though. I just went for "girl time" because I just moved here and really do want to forge a bond with the other ladies here... so I'm trying to accept most invitations at this point, you know?

Burgers went well. I actually ate one! With cheddar cheese, guacamole, tomato slices, and mayo+ketchup (not the most primal condiments, but hey). It was after-dinner snacking that did me in. We all sat around the table for a long time and chatted, and I ate a brownie that one of the guys made, then some chips with onion dip... I feel bloated after that. ugh. Tomorrow will be better!

I'm thinking this must be some sort of survival mechanism... I guess maybe especially in the first trimester, the fetus is really prone to injury from bacteria in foods or whatnot... so having a heightened sense of smell would be helpful in detecting about-to-rot food? And maybe the aversions to things / nausea make you more careful about what you injest? I mean, it took me half the day yesterday to psych myself up to eat a banana... how careful is that?!? haha. It does just seem like an unfortunate way to make yourself more aware though.

It is really hard not to tell people at this point! And the girls totally guessed it too... one asked me if I was feeling better and me, being honest, said not really... then they were all like "ooh you are pregnant aren't you?" and I just shrugged. heh. I guess I just want to see the doctor for real before telling them. Not because I think I'm not really pregnant... just... to give myself time with it on my own first. I go to see a nurse Wednesday (for some reason you see a nurse first and then you schedule a later appt with a doctor) so I will tell my girlfriends on Thursday at Thanksgiving dinner.

I really wanted to wait till Christmas to tell my family but maybe we will just call everyone on Thanksgiving instead. It would be nice to be "out" with it, though I wanted to wait longer.

  24. Ohhh... that burger sounded so yummy. I'm doing a 24-hour fast, so everything sounds good. Including the evil brownie.

That makes sense, all the yuckiness being a survival mechanism. I've been watching my nephew and his wife deal with pregnancy for 8 months now. I'm not sure I want to do that- lol. I guess my clock just isn't ticking very loud right now. That would have been a great Christmas gift, to tell everybody you're pregnant. How fun would that be!? That's sort of what my niece did... she told us all on Mother's Day. How appropriate.

I hope you're feeling better, or at least managing well. I'm sure it takes a bit of time to figure out what your body will agree with.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  25. Aww that must've been neat to tell on mothers day. Sweet.

Woke up at 6 or earlier today not feeling good still. Queasy/nauseated and with a headache I'm guessing from the evil brownie/chips. Won't be eating any more of those!

And I was dreaming about telling at Christmas and it was awesome. So I guess I'll try really hard to wait.

  26. Congrats! Sorry to hear about the morning sickness though. I had it the entire 9 months- hope that doesn't happen to you. I have read that if you have it really bad, then it's a girl because you are getting a double dose of estrogen hormones. Probably an old wives tale but interesting nonetheless.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  27. Thanks much for the congratulations.
I'm sorry you had it for all 9 months. How did you get anything done? I'm so useless right now.

I have a friend who also had it the whole 9 months... awful stuff... but she had a boy, not a girl.

Not sure about those old wives tales. haha. We'll see though!!

  28. The only thing I've eaten today is one sausage patty (husband made them this morning).
And chewed some peppermint gum, drank some lemon water.

Hubs is in the kitchen hard boiling some eggs and I'm going to try them... maybe making deviled eggs. I'm SO hungry - I just hope this works without making me feel gross(er). If I can get something in me I know I'll feel a bit better... like yesterday - not hungry and queasy, just queasy.

I keep thinking about graham crackers and saltines... not that I WANT to eat them. They just seem comforting and familiar, you know?

Can't really make a coherent thought today.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  29. Do you think you could stomach some nut crackers, or nuts? They seem pretty bland, like saltines and grahams.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  30. Nuts just seem so heavy to me... I dunno.

I did eat 3 hard boiled eggs - deviled. So that's good!
I think part of the problem is that an empty queasy stomach feels even queasier, which makes it harder to even think about eating food.
But it seems like once I eat something it's easier to keep eating. haha.
I've read people on forums saying things like, "I'm fine if I just eat all day long but if I stop I get sick."
Well I don't want to do THAT. No wonder their pants are already tight. haha. But I need to find a way to find middle ground.
