  1. YES! It came at 6:00... he sure was cutting it close, wasn't he?

The pumpkin latte was pretty good but not as good as I had imagined. Would've been better with some whipping cream in it too but I don't have any and don't plan to buy any till my husband gets back - it's too dangerous for me to have around because I overindulge. hehehe.

Today for my lunch I'm going to have a vanilla praline shake and then dinner is going to be a repeat of yesterday's onion-chicken-egg thing with hot sauce. it was SO GOOD.

And then if I want another shake I'm gonna try my chocolate/peanut/caramel one (never tried that flavor)... possibly with a little mint extract, but possibly just plain. :)

    Posted 4 months ago #
  2. Wow... you're really getting gourmet with those shakes. I'm sitting over here drooling!

    Posted 4 months ago #
  3. Oh they're not that gourmet Diana. The vanilla praline is the flavor it already is... not like I'm adding exciting things.

And so is the chocolate/peanut/caramel one. It comes that way.

The brand is Designer Whey and at least the Vanilla Praline one is really tasty. I'll let you know about the other one after I try it!

  4. I've gotta find those in my area. I'm stuck with the old chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. :P

    Posted 4 months ago #
  5. I order from amazon.com - the 2 pound "buckets" are about 18 dollars and shipping is super-cheap.

  6. Hey DR just wanted to let you know that the Chocolate/Peanut/Caramel isn't as impressive as it sounds... the vanilla praline one is really nice though.
And I've heard this brand's chocolate and double chocolate are really good.

  7. I'm thinking the Vanilla Praline would be a really yummy treat, or a way to make a yummy treat around Christmas time. You bet I'm totally getting into the eggnog this year, now that I know it's not "bad for you." :D

    Posted 4 months ago #
  8. I never liked the flavor of eggnog... though maybe now that I'm into richer tasting things, maybe I'd like it. hehe.

Trying to decide what to do about food today. I've been fasting breakfast and then having a shake for lunch and meat for dinner, then another shake if I want it... but I'm babysitting this evening. Maybe I'll just bring some meat with me and cook up my dinner there? It would have to be late though after the boy is in bed. (Late for dinner I mean).
Maybe I'll eat a late lunch like around 3 (maybe even fast till then) and then just bring a shake with me for babysitting (maybe a double one if I fast till lunch - 2 scoops of PP and 1/4 cup coconut milk, plus water).

Put some brandy in the eggnog and you'll forget that you don't like it after one glass :) That made for a fun Christmas party last year...

I love eggnog, but non-fermented dairy just kills my stomach now :( So unless I have coconut milk nog it'll be a no go. Maybe that would be good though...

Have fun with the prince-of-poopy tonight :)

    Posted 4 months ago #
  10. HAHA prince of poopy. I went over there this morning to drop off his car seat so his dad could take him to the doctor for a checkup, and kiddo came running out and the first thing he said was, "Look Emmawee! Gra-noh-la!" as he held out his granola bar with a grin.

    *sigh*
Luckily I think he usually poops in the morning after breakfast so I should be in the clear.

  11. I had a small victory today! You know the "prince of poop" eats tonnnnns of grains and fruit ALL the time? (At least it's not straight-up sugar, but close.) Well tonight instead of making him fish sticks or chicken nuggets which is what his parents suggested, I dug out a chicken breast from the freezer and thawed it out.

I opened up all the spices one by one and let him smell them and decide which ones he wanted on his chicken. He picked (with a little guidance) garlic salt and basil. So I cut up the chicken into little pieces and cooked it in a pan with those... and also steamed some broccoli in the microwave.

He ate ALL his broccoli (mom says he loves it) AND almost the entire chicken breast - probably ate about 5 oz of chicken. So when mom and dad got home I said, "[Boy] had a really good dinner! He ate almost a whole chicken breast." Mom's eyes went wide and she said, "you mean in nuggets? Like a breast's worth of chicken?" I said, "No, like an actual breast." She said she was really surprised because he's just not very into meat. So I told her about how I let him help by picking the spices.

Hopefully she'll use that technique in the future. This is a kid who LOVES to be involved, so including him in the process is a motivator for him.

And YAY! I fed him a real primal meal. :) I just wish they had butter in the house so I could've gotten in some fat for him... they only have margarine.

Next task? Try to get him to like eggs. He is NOT a fan. I made him an egg last week (he asked for one when he saw me making some for myself) but he only ate one bite. Mom said he isn't into eggs.

I make REALLY good creamy scrambled eggs though and he loves cheese, so maybe if I make cheddar scrambled eggs he'll eat them. Maybe I'll give it a try tomorrow for lunch. They always have lots of cheese.

  12. That's so awesome! Who knows, with some time and some patience, you could convert the whole family... or at least get them off fish sticks and chicken nuggets. ;)

  13. Well a friend mentioned crepes to me so I started with that... made him "peanut butter power pancakes" (peanut butter crepes. haha) .He objected when he saw the eggs come out of the fridge but I told them they had to go in his power pancakes and that they were good for his muscles just like chicken is. He ate two crepes and a little fruit before declaring himself full and finished.

I really think I might have to ease him into more "straight-up" egg dishes. In any case, I'm finished babysitting him for a little while because his mom is going to continue her Reserves obligation later - she thinks she's coming down with something so doesn't want to go in to work this week.

(Just a note - I don't think fish sticks and chicken nuggets are everyday fare for him, just an easy alternative when babysitters are too stupid to find something else... or when parents are hurried. The first time I saw him he was eating leftover Thai food. :) And usually he eats "real food" with the family, even if a lot of it is from boxes like rice a roni.)

  14. Ohh... peanut butter... err... almond butter crepes. Those sound so yummy! Especially with fruit in them. PB&J!

    Posted 4 months ago #
  15. Yeah, they didn't have almond butter... so peanut it was.

Eh, could be worse. Peanut butter is at least protein with fewer carbs for someone who doesn't care about the gross oils used and lectins in the peanuts. Oh, and I hope the other nanny job works out too, that's an awesome opportunity!

    Posted 4 months ago #
  17. I hope it works out too! But I got an email from the grandfather today saying his wife is having second thoughts because she "feels like a bad grandmother."
I understand that because you're handing off your grandkids to a non-family-member for 3 days a week, BUT... they're not her kids and because she's taking care of them she doesn't get to see her husband very much. The kids' mom is in the Navy and deployed - it's not like grandma or grandpa signed up for the Navy!

For the kids it probably would be better if grandma stayed here with them all week, to give them as much stability as possible.

But for the grandparents and for me it would be best to let me take care of them a couple days a week - they can see each other and reconnect (they live on the coast but grandma is here because of the kids while grandpa has to stay at home because of his job) and I'd have an income. heh.

Congrats on the victory FNW. Letting him pick his own spices is a great idea and way to make him feel involved. Did you say you were a trained Montessori teacher? I'm IFing today but I might have a Primal Almond Butter crepe for dessert LOL.

    Posted 4 months ago #
  19. I'm not trained... but am looking into starting training through a distance learning program (there is nothing local and my husband is in the Navy so we move a lot, so online it is).
I do LOVE Montessori though and have read a lot about it.

    Enjoy your crepe!! :)

  20. Got another email about a person who needs a nanny... she has one 1 year old and works from home - wants someone to watch her kid in her home. I gave her my rates for in her home and in my home (in my home is about half of the other, because i'd rather be at home and then I could watch other kids at the same time). She hasn't gotten back to me yet.

And there's another guy who's been emailing me but he seems... off... like maybe he's a scammer or something but I don't know how this would be a scam. He says he's coming into town for a month-long training thing and has 2 2-year-old girls (twins) who need care while he's at the thing. I hope it's real and that it works out because that would be fun!

UPS guy came today and brought me 4 more desks! It was only supposed to be 2. And he said Target didn't call in a ticket for him to take the broken ones back so ... now I have 6 desks. At least 2 of them are broken. WTF?
I assembled one for my husband and it's in the office. Gotta assemble another one for myself tonight.

And I spent a lot of time hanging pictures today. Hopefully my husband will agree with where I've put things, and hopefully he'll be happy that he doesn't have to do it! :)

I also ordered some mounted butterflies and a luna moth in frames - I hope they come before my husband gets back too, so I can hang them over our bed as a surprise. I really want him to be happy with the "settledness" of our house... after a week surviving in the woods and being captured and interrogated and such, I'm sure he could use a HOME to come back to. So I'm nesting.

Hehe, nesting is fun :) I enjoyed getting all of the pictures up and the furniture in the right places when we first moved into our home.

What are you going to do with 6 desks?? Sell them on Craigslist maybe?

And maybe the guy with the 2 year old twins is just socially awkward, some people don't come off very well in writing. Not that you should ever do something you're uncomfortable with of course! And I think watching someone else's children at home WHILE they're home is so weird. I have a friend that does it (for the $$ of course, grad school is expensive!), and he has the weirdest stories. Although the couple he works for seems a little crazy. Either way, how hard is it to drop of your child at a care-giver's place if you work from home anyway?

    Posted 4 months ago #
  22. Ohh... the mounted butterflies are such a neat idea! There's something so refreshing about setting up a new home. Everything feels so clean and brand new. Oh... was gonna tell you I LOVE your facebook photo!

  24. Hannah, if they don't pick up the 4 we aren't using (the 2 broken ones and the 2 I haven't opened) I guess maybe we'll try to fix the broken ones with wood glue and maybe sell them at a garage sale? We have lots of things in the garage we need to offload. haha.

These are the butterflies I ordered DR: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28714800 but in a khaki colored frame. Our bedroom is sort of yellow+white+khaki so it should look nice over the bed!
Are you settling into your house nicely? I'd love to see pictures if you post some maybe on fb. (Do you mean my dog photo w/the pirate hat? hehe. I think it's cute too.)

Teri, I hope he'll be happy when he gets home! I'm not sure what to expect... my friend's husband was okay when he got home but whatever they did to him at the survival school "hit him" about a week later and he got really edgy and grumpy and just... not happy at all. Maybe primal waffles will help?

    Posted 4 months ago #
  25. Yup, your pup is a real cutie! I love the butterflies and will add them to my Christmas wish list.

OMG, about my apartment. I had my sister come over for when the cable guy showed up since I was working. I got home from the restaurant tonight to find my whole place had been cleaned, and she organized and decorated! It's not 100% done yet, but it's SO much better. I have the best family ever. :) I'll get some pics tomorrow I think.

@FNW: I KNOW he's going to be happy!!!
Primal Waffles and plenty of hugs will prevent any pot-training grumpiness.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  27. Wow, your sister is SO sweet to do that for you! That's really awesome of her!!!

Teri, I hope you're right. I've just heard so many stories about when the guys come back from this training...

So I bought drawer pulls yesterday to replace the ones on the dresser (used to hold office supplies) in our office and on our desks... but I accidentally mis-matched them. The difference isn't very noticeable so I might not return them, but... I might. Ugh. I hate going back and forth to stores by myself. Usually hubs and I run errands together and it is so much more pleasant with company!

    Posted 3 months ago #
  28. Ugh, the ones I got for the dresser won't even work... they're a bit too small-looking AND the screws already in the dresser are too long for these knobs and the ones that came with the knobs are way too short for the dresser.

So I have to return those anyway, and I guess I'll leave the knobs as they are, so I may as well also exchange one of the mis-matched desk knobs so that they'll both match. Annoying!

  29. Hey, how's everything going for you? Wow, that sounds like a real pain. I hate it when you get hang ups on projects like that. I'm irritated over a too-short curtain rod at the moment. :P

FNW, I made your pork sausages last night. They turned out really yummy! I had them for dinner and for b/f this morning. The ground pork I used was really fatty and I got lot of lard (drippings?) from it. Used it to fry eggs. Thanks for the recipe, it's a keeper (I omitted the maple syrup though).
