Wow, what a week so far. I got my new car and a tattoo. My arm is killing me. Once the tat heals up a little I'll post some pics.
I have to say, I LOVE being Primal. As I said in another post, I ate lunch yesterday at noon, and didn't get home until about 9 pm. The old me would have been starving and cranky, but I had no problem delaying my meal. I almost IFed completely but the salmon was calling me and I couldn't resist.
Today is more of a normal schedule. 3 eggs scrambled with spinach, topped with marinara for breakfast. 2 pork chops and a couple cups of cauliflower for lunch. Dinner was quick. I fried up some rabbit and steamed some broccoli. Ate a tablespoon of almond butter while I waited for the food to cook. Tonight I'm going to throw some beef cheek meat into the crock pot and see how it turns out.
I'm kinda bummed though. My shorts got a hole in the pocket and I lost all my grocery money. :( I didn't realize it until I got to the store, so I'll have to ask around tomorrow at work and see if anybody's willing to admit they found it. *sigh*

Well, so much for survival week. I found some raisins in my fridge and mixed up a bunch of them in a bowl with almond butter. It had to be at least 400 calories. Probably more. I really don't know why I did that. I wasn't even hungry. Ugh...

DR - congrats on the weight loss, loosing that amount of weight you deserve the Fruit boys to be bickering after you !!! Maybe you should take them both out !!!
Don't want to sound stupid but what is an IF day ?? I only ordered my book 3 days ago and it's not expected to be delivered for 4/6 weeks !!
Thanks

Thank you! :)
Oh, it's a great book. I hope it gets to you soon. IF is "Intermittent Fasting." It can be skipping a meal, or fasting for an entire day, or only eating during certain hours of the day. I think I'm going to IF tonight and skip dinner.

I also just ate half a jar of almond butter as well so know how you feel! Maybe we should not buy it then won’t be so tempted! :)
What a bugger losing your grocery money, how annoying, I hope you get it back.

I think something is in the air because I ate half a jar of almond butter last night! It was so good.
That's a real bummer about the grocery money. Hopefully someone honest found it and you'll get it back.

Yeah, no luck on getting my money back. I either lost it in my parking lot, or somebody at work found it and kept it. Oh well. "Stupid Tax." I guess it gives me a good reason to cut back on food a little bit for the rest of the week.

"Stupid Tax" ... you a Dave Ramsey girl?
Posted 4 months ago # -
LOL- sure am! So you know about Dave too huh? He changed my life. Someday, after I do my debt free scream, I want to take a trip to see his live event... with VIP tickets. :)
Posted 4 months ago # -
Sounds awesome. :) We did our scream (just us, no radio show or anything) in January. Still plugging along with our plan, saving to buy a car w/4 doors with cash (2 doors just won't cut it when we plan to have a baby)

Congratulations! I don't know if I'll call in or just go do the snoopy dance in my yard- lol.
I just ended up getting a new car too. Luckily the majority of the money was a gift from my mom. (She said she was proud of me for being so good with my money.) I only dipped into my emergency fund a little (which was probably a no-no) but it'll be replaced once I sell the old car- probably to a salvage yard or as a parts car. It feels so good to have a newer car and NO PAYMENTS! I could just scream! LOL
How did it feel to do your scream and actually be debt free? I can imagine it but I bet it's better than imagination. And to think, having a family without debt... you guys rock!

I had a pretty good Primal day. I'm cutting calories/carbs and If-ing today since my weight is at a standstill. 2 eggs with some spinach and a smattering of pasta sauce for breakfast. Green beans with beef cheek meat for lunch. It was really fatty meat so I'm just IF-ing for dinner.
I went out for a walk and ended up doing some sprints, and now I'm veggin' out with some decaf chai with stevia. No cream, as good as it sounds. The raisins and almond butter are screaming my name, but I will resist... until saturday. I'm taking it to the bbq as my dessert. ;) Maybe spread almond butter on some apple wedges, then stick some raisins on there. Better than ants on a log.
I was really impressed with myself today. My job is somewhat physically demanding, but not a lot. I was asked to cut amp cables (amphenol), which are really thick. They're about 3/4 inch. Several months ago it would have taken all of my strength and both hands to cut the cables. Today I whipped right through them like they were cat5 cables. Piece of cake! I guess the strength training really is paying off! I noticed I can lift bigger spools too, and I use that as an occasion to get in a mini workout. Lift heavy things.

Haha... the feeling is pretty great. I mean, we're not rolling in dough or saving thousands each month for retirement or anything. We really don't have an impressive income, but the thing is, from here it's all forward progress, no more "catching up." You will loooooove that feeling.
Good job on the lifting heavy things thing. haha I'm totally impressed... can't wait until I can exercise. I know I keep saying that but it's true! I've tried a few times and I get really tired way too quickly (surgery thing, not food thing).

So far a pretty good weekend.
I IF-ed (mostly) yesterday morning. I grabbed a piece of rgf cheese before leaving the house yesterday morning. A teaspoon of almond butter with some raisins later, and a shrimp. No real appetite to speak of.
Last night we had a cook out and watched fireworks. I bought a big salad at Wegmans. Greens, cherry tomatoes, eggs, chicken, bleu cheese and bacon. Dressing was a little conventional but no HFCS! I also had some shrimp, a hamburger-dog (burger rolled into hotdog shape), and a pear with almond butter for dessert.
I skipped out on my workout yesterday. I just wasn't feeling ambitious. I'm really trying to get myself in the mood for it today but it's not working.
Grabbed a cup of chocolate cinnamon almond coffee with a tsp heavy cream and some stevia, and ate some almond butter with raisins. I had planned on eggs but decided to finish off the raisins instead. I must have ate 400 calories worth of breakfast. I don't really plan on lunch but we'll see what happens. Dinner's sort of up in the air too. Fish sounds good and I have some leftover brussels sprouts in the fridge.

I read your posts everyday because I long to be like you with your eating. When you say I just grabbed this or that or a handful of whatever, and actually foraging for your own mushrooms! Wow. I am so the opposite end of the Primal spectrum. My meals are all planned out, I tend to be very strict and eat the same primal things everyday and do massive research on everything that goes into my body. It drives me nuts (no pun intended)! I would have never survived in the wild!

Aww... thank you! I kinda wish I could be more planned and organized sometimes. I never seem to have ingredients for really good dishes on hand. I used to be really obsessive about measuring, counting and all that before I went Primal and it did kinda drive me nuts.
I'm not sure where you live (if it's urban or rural) but I found some really great sites on edible weeds. Even going out and picking some wood sorrel or dandelion greens makes you feel much more connected to nature. I kinda grew up foraging but I'm still learning things. I caught myself yesterday remarking "Oh, I didn't know you could eat that!" LOL.
I would say if you want to forage more, choose to learn one new thing each week or try one new wild food. One thing I've been doing is writing down what I've learned. This year my big learning experience was harvesting fiddlehead ferns from my parents' woods. They're only available a few weeks out of the year so now I know when to look for them and which ones to get so that next year I can harvest a lot more. I spotted red clover on my walk around the neighborhood the other day, so now my quest is to figure out how to use it as food instead of just tea.
Even grocery stores and farmers markets are an opportunity to forage. Buy strange foods in small quantities. Then it's kinda like you foraged for them. ;) I'm still shy about trying new greens like bok choy and kale, but my dad ended up buying me a gigantic head of chinese cabbage from the Amish (for a dollar!) Now I have to figure out what to do with it.

I can help with the Bok Choy and Kale! I love kale. I two easy recipes that I always go to. One is to clean it up, then toss in an oil of your choice, and grill it. Toss it in some vinegar, salt and pepper, and done! So yummy. I also cut it up and dehydrate it with salt and pepper and it tastes like little crispy kale chips. Bok Choy is a little bitter to me. So I will usually saute it with something else like chicken or beef with garlic.
My favorite cabbage recipe is to saute it with bacon, apple cider vinegar (about a tablespoon) and a little sweetener. Yummy!Posted 4 months ago # -
Oh, thanks for the tips! I love the idea of kale chips. Very creative yet simple dishes. I like it. :)

I love kale, I grow it myself and have it with my eggs a lot, also really good fried in lots of butter with some mushrooms. Oyster sauce and garlic go really well with bok choy.
You could make cabbage soup! Actually I would stir fry it with lots of garlic and sesame seeds…

Your mention of Wegmans led me to check where you live. I'm just north of you in Rochester!
Posted 4 months ago # -
That sounds really good Miriam, fried with mushrooms, as does bok choy with oyster sauce and garlic. I need to start writing this stuff down.
NeoPaleo- no way! That's so awesome! I was just up there last weekend to pick up my "new" (2003) Jetta. I feel better knowing I got some neighbors upstate. Downstaters were talking about having a bbq. How cool would it be for us upstaters to have a yearly event? :) Gonna be up that way again in September at Elison park for the Pagan Pride Festival.

I friended you on facebook too.
I live super close to Elison Park - it's one of my favorites. I used to go sledding there all the time when I was a kid.
Posted 4 months ago # -
Rock on! You guys are in like sin. ;)
I'm still figuring out facebook after being a long-time myspace member. It takes a little adjustment.
NeoPaleo- I don't know your religious philosophy but you should totally check out the festival this September, if you don't mind wandering around the park with a bunch of wild Pagans- lol. It's a ton of fun and usually there's a great drum circle.
Is there camping near there? The festival is on a saturday and sometimes they have events with the guest speaker on friday. Instead of making the 2-hour trip 2 days in a row I thought it would be convenient to camp out.Posted 4 months ago # -
Pretty good day. I actually had bacon for breakfast. Sure, it was conventional, but it was gooood. Spinach scrambled eggs with bacon for breakfast. Chicken and broccoli for lunch. Dinner was a throw-together. 4 huge raw snow cabbage leaves and a handful carrot slices dipped in spiced mayo. A chicken drumstick and a few pieces of leftover bacon.
I bought some 100% chocolate a while back and didn't like it. So I melted it, added stevia and some heavy cream so it was kinda fudgy. Mixed in some sunflower seeds and dropped on wax paper. Yummy! I'm trying to resist eating another one.
Once the chicken is gone I want to make some almond-crusted pork chops. I guess there will be barbecues and fireworks all weekend, so I have to think of a cheap game plan for meals those three days. Oh boy...

Ugh.
Not a bad day. I slept through my workout though. I woke up to the alarm (I usually wake myself up 20 minutes before) to the sound of a thunderstorm. Hit the button and went back to sleep for an hour. What is it about thunderstorms that make you sleepy?
It was a long, boring day at work, and I'm more tired than usual. I'm actually thinking of crawling in bed at 8:00. Two eggs, fried with bacon for breakfast, and dark chocolate melted with sunflower seeds. Lunch was chicken with cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and asparagus.
I intended on making salmon for dinner, but I had to break a large bill so I stopped to the grocery store and ended up buying one of their roaster chickens (lemon garlic- all natural spices- I checked.) So I ended up eating half a chicken with several large cabbage leaves, raw and a couple handfuls of carrot slices dipped in mayo.
I really want something sweet but I don't have anything in the house.
Yup... I think it's bedtime. *yawn*
Posted 4 months ago # -
Mmmm... I want some of those chocolate things.
And half a chicken. hehe.
Posted 4 months ago # -
That is funny that thunderstorms make you sleep, they make me really alert! I was standing outside in the back garden at 3am watching a big storm the other night and actually felt really good that day!
Your chocolate sunflower seed drops sound really good, another thing I will add to my shopping list.

The scale went down! Woot!
For weeks now it's been stuck right around 130-131, in spite of the occasional IF and eating right. I got up this morning and the scale said 129.4! That's even after 1) eating half a chicken, 2) stuffing my face with almonds and 3) drinking a can of Zevia soda. I thought for sure I over-did myself yesterday. It made me feel so good to see a new number there. Hopefully it'll still be in the 120's tomorrow.
I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I drank a whole bottle of water right before bed last night. I made that a routine when I was losing weight the CW way and sorta fell out of habit. Maybe it's worth continuing. I don't know if there's any science behind it, but shoot. 129.4!
When leaving for work I spotted 2 more meadow mushrooms, and these ones were HUGE. One was 5 inches, and the other 7! I couldn't believe it! I've never seen a mushroom that big.
Breakfast: spinach scrambled eggs (3) with marinara sauce. Pretty basic.
Lunch: chicken with broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. Half a giant meadow mushroom.
Snack: homemade venison jerky a coworker gave me. Yum!
Dinner: Salmon cooked in coconut oil, raw cabbage leaves and carrots dipped in mayo.
After dinner I blended up some almond milk and mixed in a little vanilla extract and stevia for a sweet dessert-drink. The actual purpose was to gather the pulp for pork chops tomorrow. :)
Workout went good, but I didn't put in 100%. Sorta kicking myself over it but I was feeling lazy.

Giant meadow mushroom?!?! I don't know anywhere enough about mushrooms or foraging to even attempt eating a found mushroom or "weed". What do they taste like? I think I've only ever eaten those little white mushrooms from the grocery store. And only raw, I hate them cooked.
