  1. I already did a long update on my blog, and I'm getting pretty sleepy, so this one's going to be short. If you want to get the whole thing, you can read it here: http://wildernesschilde.blogspot.com/2009/11/new-rhythm.html

I ate pretty badly today. I started out great, until I got to my parents' house.

B: Whey protein shake made with 2 eggs and water. Gonna have to tweek it. It's not as good as it was with skim milk.

L: A small taco salad. Lunch was free, but there wasn't nearly enough of it for everyone. Shoot, there'd have barely been enough for just myself.

S: A yummy dark chocolate truffle at the mall.

D: Meatloaf at home, then came up to my parents house. Didn't realize they'd save me steak and veggies. A spoonful of peanut butter. Then some peanut butter cheese cake and a swig of milk. Not quite half a glass.

Ok, so my eating wasn't horrible, but I hate not being absolutely in control of what I eat and when. :P

Getting really sleepy and I have to get up super-early to get out in the woods. Deer season (shotgun) starts tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!

(And don't forget to check out my blog. I'm officially starting to ask for donations. Will be launching a special page. More info at The Wilderness Childe.)

    Happy Hunting, DR.
Wish I could be out there with you :-(

  4. No luck. :( I did see 2 turkeys and a rabbit. If I'd had my .22 with me I could have gotten one or the other. Didn't see a single deer. Maybe on Thanksgiving, if I'm lucky. Shoot, we heard the Amish driving deer (hooting, whooping and hollaring), but no gunshots, so at least we're not the only ones who didn't get lucky the first day. We did hear plenty of other gunshots though, and on my way home I saw a group of guys, and one of them had a HUGE 10-point (or more) in the back of his truck. I was so jealous. I'd love to just blow the guys at work away with bagging a huge buck. That would be so cool.

I have to say, it's been a long-@ss day. I sorta caved a bit this morning on my eating. I went to my parents' house last night and all that. This morning I had a piece of leftover steak, and 2 last-minute raw eggs. Off hunting I went.

When we got back in around noon, so I could go to work, I ended up eating a really yummy piece of cheesecake. It didn't make me feel too wonderful though. When I got home I ate the last piece of meatloaf. I haven't had anything since.

I think I'm going to (try to) do a 24-hour fast. I haven't done one of those in such a long time. I'm running on almost 12 hours now. If I just wait until I get home from work tomorrow, it'll be just a bit over 24 hours. As it is, I have just enough time to get some sleep, get up, shower and go to work, so it shouldn't be too hard not eating. It's when I'm home (or at somebody's house) that I get myself into trouble. Mostly I'm really curious what the ketostix will say. I get "trace" amounts when I don't skip a meal, and "small" amounts when I skip one. I wonder what it'll be after 24 hours.

My sister didn't get me that swimsuit I wanted to borrow. I really wanted to put it on and get my "before" photo up. Sure, I could do it in my bra and underwear, which actually covers MORE than a bikini... but why is it that a bra and panties seems more naughty than a swimsuit that looks practically the same? I would be more embarrassed to wear my underwear in the picture than a swimsuit. So weird.

Crap... I gotta get my butt to bed.

I wanted to add again, thank you to everyone who pitched in and was kind enough to donate. I will have an "official" page up soon and I hope that you all will spam the heck out of the internet and everyone you know for me. LOL :P

    G'nite all.

  5. Well, I did my fast, and it went a lot smoother than I expected. I haven't done a 24-hour fast in months. I think I'm going to make it routine for my weekends. According to the ketostix, I had "moderate" amounts of ketones before I ate dinner. I could have waited until breakfast tomorrow without any problems. Maybe next weekend that's what I'll do.

I decided to break my fast with some chicken (half roaster from work) and a couple fried eggs. I decided I'd also enjoy the pomegranate that's been sitting in my fridge. Oh, so yummy!

I got my bikini photos for the blog. I have to get them uploaded and all that jazz. I've never worn a bikini before and it felt weird, yet comfy. I think I could get used to the idea of wearing one. As of right now, not in front of people- lol

Not really much to report today. I did a couple quick sprints before dinner and it felt great. I don't know if it was from the fasting or what, but it was like it didn't even take any effort to run. I'll have to experiment some with working out while fasting. Before I always thought I should minimize activity so I wouldn't pass out or something. I must have been so wrong!

Well, better get working on some webpages.

  6. I think I could handle doing this "1-meal-a-day" thing. It certainly saves time and money!

Lesson learned. Wegman's strawberry whey protein. Yucky. I'm taking it back tomorrow and getting the chocolate.

    B: IF

    L: IF

D: 1/2 roaster and fried yellow squash. Protein shake made with 2 eggs.

I have some beef kidneys in the fridge. I'm really, really trying to get myself to like them more. I have about 4 more sets in the freezer.

Shoot, I just realized I forgot to pee on a stick to check my ketones before I ate dinner. Darn it!

Thoughts are a bit random tonight. I really should be sleeping.

I really like 1 or 2 meals per day also, way cheaper for sure! You haven't been doing all that bad either, so don't worry about it :) My splurge this weekend with my friend in PA was chili/salted dark chocolate, it was so good! And aged gouda and red wine :) Not much of each, we shared a 1 oz square of chocolate (it was a sample), and about 2 oz of gouda each. Aaaamazing :) Cheesecake also sounds amazing though, pumpkin cheesecake especially (I can't wait for Thursday, I think I'm making pumpkin souflee!). I hope you have an awesome Thanksgiving, and GOOD LUCK finding a deer, that would be great.

Oh, and you just never know when you'll see a wild turkey, so you should just keep a .22 on you at all times. It would make you look pretty bad-ass anyway :)

    Posted 3 months ago #
  8. Ohh... I could really go for some chocolate, cheese and wine! I've been really sensitive to food tempation with doing this one-meal thing, but I've not given in!

I may get myself into a bit of trouble with dinner tomorrow night at the restaurant. Prime rib, mushrooms, onions, jack cheese, ribs, sweet potato, and cheesecake. My mom's having me buy a birthday cake. I hope nobody will be offended if I order the cheesecake instead.

Actually I'm thinking of getting a pistol permit. I could shoot a turkey with that. ;)

    Crap. Back to work.

Great job on the fasting...I'm still working on IF. Going very slowly on that.

By the way, I noticed you wanted to tweak your protein shake and didn't like it w/ water. Have you tried heavy cream? Or, full-fat yogurt? Just a touch can make for a much creamier, tastier shake. Or...some coconut milk if you're trying to give up the dairy. Just some thoughts...!

    Posted 3 months ago #
  10. Yeah I thought about that. I was just trying to keep the calories down and go as straight protein as possible. I do have some 'lite' coconut milk in the pantry if nothing else.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  11. Ok, it's midnight. Dammit. I need to get to bed earlier than this!

    Quick thoughts.

    B: IF

    L: IF

D: Kidney, coated in pecan flour. Not great, but it was food.

Stevia + mint extract + club soda = yummy soda

I'm going out to dinner tomorrow! I already have my menu all planned out and everything. LOL. I can't remember the last time I made this big a deal out of eating out. Dave would be proud. "You don't see the inside of a restaurant unless you're working in it." :P

I also have to toot my own horn a bit. I have THE BEST willpower lately. I don't know if it's the 1-meal thing, or the Carnivore thing, or what. I'm eating 1 meal a day, and working at a restaurant half of my day, and I haven't even nibbled ONCE! I've been tempted. There are yummy prime rib scraps that are waiting to be thrown out, and I could just snack whenever... but I didn't.

Of course I was waiting to get home to try my ketostix and guage my progress, and sure enough... I forgot to pee before I ate. Dammit. :P

  12. protein shake with a couple tablespoons of coconut milk (plus water) is a lot nicer in my opinion than with just straight-up water. And it makes me fuller longer too.

Where are you going to dinner tomorrow and what's your menu? Sounds exciting!!

And omg prime rib scraps? I'd be all over that crap... could you take them home with you?

    Posted 3 months ago #
  13. I'll have to try the coconut milk in it next time. I already returned the strawberry flavor to the store. I think I'll just stick with chocolate. Once in a while though- like once a year- I get a craving for strawberry milk. You know, the nesquik stuff. I don't like it, but at the oddest time, out of nowhere, I'll want it. I think that's what my issue was the other day.

We're going to Texas Roadhouse (where I work). I know the menu inside and out, and I've decided on:

-Prime Rib, smothered with mushrooms, onions and jack
-BBQ rib sidekick (4 bone rib)
    -Sweet potato with honey butter
    -Broccoli
    -Cheesecake

I'll probably have a drink too, but I don't know what I'll be in the mood for. Between dinner tomorrow and Thanksgiving on thursday... it'll be my feast days for sure. Then it's back to 1-meal-a-day famine, lol.

I think I'm going to ask my kitchen manager if they can save the prime scraps for me. I already take the roaster chickens home. I'd take the pulled pork too, but I really don't need the bbq sauce on a daily basis.

OK, I'm going to get myself into trouble if I don't go to bed soon. I'm supposed to wake up in... 6 hours.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  14. man that all sounds SO GOOD (except I'm not that into cheesecake)... making me want to go to texas roadhouse. I don't even know if we have one here.

Too bad they don't sauce the BBQ afterward... pulled pork rocks.

    SLEEP.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  15. I got a little sleep. Might nap during lunch today.

If you can find a Texas Roadhouse near you, GO! They have a website with a locator. I really like working (and eating) there for one main reason. Pretty much everything, other than the apple pie and cheesecake, is made from scratch. I love that it's whole, real food. I also love that if you want a specialty steak cut, you can have it cut. We served a 24 ounce ribeye last night. :P

    Posted 3 months ago #
  16. So stuffed. I didn't actually eat that much. I nibbled a bit of the cactus blossom (bloomin' onion), I had some broccoli and carrots- about a cup, about 2 of my ribs, about 5 bites of prime rib, and a small sweet potato. When it came to birthday cake I decided to go ahead with the cake instead of ordering cheesecake.

Lesson learned. I nolonger like chocolate cake.

I can't wait to get through tomorrow so I can get back to my "normal" meals.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  17. DR That's so good to hear about the scratch-cooking. I seriously appreciate that! :)

I looove bloomin' onions. I know they're not primal but I think that would be a 20% thing for me. mmmm. I'd eat that.

I think it's sad you're thinking about "getting through" tomorrow...man, I am SO looking forward to the delicious feast. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays - omg YUM.

Can I have your leftovers if you don't want them?

    Posted 3 months ago #
  18. aw there is no texas roadhouse near us. :( Or outback.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  19. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it. I love food. I just know I'm going to feel over-stuffed and pudgy afterwards- lol. That part is what I want to "get through." I'm really looking forward to my Primal pumpkin pie. I hope everyone likes it. Oh, and the best thing about tomorrow... turkey drumstick!!!

If you ever find yourself near a Texas Roadhouse, you really must go. You're welcome to visit ours any time. ;)

    Posted 3 months ago #
  20. I've been to texas roadhouse before... very yummy, but you talking about it makes me want to go NOW. haha.

I hate that over-stuffed pudgy feeling... but it is hard to achieve without all the puffy carbs.

Mmmmm drumstick. Maybe I'll steal one away if the guys don't get them first.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  21. Yeah... why is it the guys automatically get the drumsticks? That's BS. :P

We've got 2 turkeys for 6 people. I BETTER get a drumstick and a wing.

I don't intend to eat a ton of carbs, but there will be a lot of root veggies, so... if I fill up on turky I might be safe.

I don't think my pie was quite a success. The crust got a bit ummm... toasty. I can't see the underside so I hope it's ok. The edge was quite dark. I made it with pecan flour so we'll see what happens. I did taste the filling before baking. Pretty darn good. I have some left over so I stuck it in the fridge. Any thoughts on what to do with it? Not quite enough to make another pie. Was thinking I could maybe put it in a muffin pan and make little crustless pumpkin pies. ??

    Posted 3 months ago #
  22. Aw our friends are only having one turkey... I hope it's big enough for all 6 of us. hehe.

Yeah, I was thinking baking it in a rammekin... maybe topped with some pecans tossed with butter and cinnamon - that might be good.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  23. Ohhh... that's a great idea! I don't have any pecans, but I do have walnuts. I also have black walnuts that I need to crack. So much better than the regular kind, but a pain to get into.

I wonder, if the z-sweet I have (erythritol) would make a glaze like sugar would. It says it's a great substitute with baking, and it has that granular texture. I'd love to glaze some nuts. That's one of the Christmas treats I'll miss most (if I don't indulge.)

    Posted 3 months ago #
  24. i love glazed nuts too...mmm... the farm market we went to the other day had some free samples out and I did eat a few. they were GOOD.

Happy Thanksgiving, Diana! What am I thankful for? Your blog! A harbor in a now useless forum. *sigh*

    Posted 3 months ago #
  26. Happy Thanksgiving girls! (And guys!) I'll post a bit shortly. Gonna work on my blog too. It feels WONDERFUL to not have to go to work for a day. :)

  27. Happy thanksgiving! Hope the pumpkin pie worked out!

    Posted 3 months ago #
  28. Well, the pie was edible! The crust was a tad over-done (a problem I will remedy in the future), but it wasn't bad. The filling was enjoyable without being overpowering. I may add a little more spice next time though. I love cinnamon and nutmeg.

I did well with dinner. My dad surprised me by buying a pastured Bourbon Red turkey for me. I ate a huge wing and some thigh meat. I didn't have enough room for the drumstick. I got to bring home the entire turkey since they had a traditional "grocery store" turkey for the rest of the family.

I made the mashed parsnip recipe and the roasted root vegetable recipe from right here at MDA. Both recipes came out fantastic. I also made sweet potatoes, Texas Roadhouse style for the family (marshmallows and caramel). I ate mine with butter only. Actually, I thought I was quite brilliant for piling my mashed butternut squash into my sweet potato to save room on my plate. It was a nice mingling of flavors. My mom made a ton of sides. I had some of her broccoli & carrot cheesy cassarole. I dug my portion out from under the bread crumbs- lol.

I did have some non-Primal splurges. A few Welsh cookies- my great grandmother's recipe. We only make them during deer season. I had a small wedge of (canned) minced meat pie alongside a slice of my Primal pumpkin pie. Oh, and a slice of pumpkin roll that wasn't really that good.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to normal, though I do have a buttload of veggies in my fridge now. My mom sent me home with the extra carrots, beet and the brussels sprouts we forgot to make. Plus my root veggie salad and mashed parsnips. :P

DR I'm jealous of your Bourbon Red turkey!!! I got a fresh amish turkey, which turned out REALLY well, but I'd love to try one of the heritage breeds next year. I still have a crap-load of turkey left too, I bought a 16 pound turkey, and I'd say the hubs and I maybe ate 1 pound of it yesterday :)

But there will be turkey soup, turkey salad, turkey gumbo (or chili, haven't decided), regular turkey dinner...we'll be eating it for a while. Yum :)

What are Welsh cookies? Oh and I had minced meat pie last Christmas, it is very rich. I enjoyed it, but I think the canned (or jarred?) stuff would be way too sweet for me this year.

    Posted 3 months ago #
  30. OMG, I've been totally bombarded with food! I have so much stuff in the fridge to cook and eat right now. I'm totally enjoying it while it lasts. There's a whole leftover turkey, beef tongue, ground pork, and some leftovers from the restaurant (1/2 chicken, pulled pork and ribs.) PLUS, my nephew FINALLY gave me some coyote meat, and my dad called me today to let me know he got a deer! As much as I hate to, I'm going to have to freeze the coyote meat until I can use it properly. Same with the deer.

Hannah- Welsh cookies are an old family recipe. An Irish friend of mine likened them to a scone. Instead of baking them you fry them on a griddle. They're made with nutmeg, currants and a few other ingredients.

I finally found another horn melon. I bought it at Tops for $4.00! It was stuck in my mind since seeing it in the book at Wegman's. I hadn't had one since I was following CW, and I didn't really realize the flavor was so similar to an unripe banana. I have the other half in the fridge. Thinking about eating it in a minute.

It's kind of nice, working for a restaurant. I think I'm going to save a lot of money on food, though I hope I can stick to a relatively healthy diet. I snagged some sweet potatoes and froze them. I really don't want to make them a part of my daily diet. As I mentioned, there's chicken, ribs, pulled pork. I'm a bit wary of eating so much barbecue sauce though. The chicken isn't barbecued at least. I guess for right now, since I'm busting butt to save money, and eating pretty much only meat, I should be ok. It's certainly not the best diet, but it's not horrible. I'm not eating fries or baked beans. I bet it would help if I did more exercise. I sort of miss running, but where I live during deer season- not a great idea. P90X is on my Christmas wish list. :P

I've really been researching the Lower Body Lift. I've sent photos to doctors that I can't really make time to see in person. I may not need a lower body lift at all, but just a tummy tuck and some lipo on the thighs, plus the breast lift. It would cost less, which would be wonderful. I've got $49 so far. It's not a lot, but it's a start. I'm having a really hard time getting the word out. As soon as my student loan is paid off I should be able to start saving money from my 2nd job.
