Tara that chia seed pudding looks divine, I must make myself some this weekend.

Could be warmed up a bit or would the chia seeds go too gelatinous? I know if I have them in yoghurt and don't eat straight away I end up with a yoghurt brick!

  4. B: egg whites, mushrooms, onion, avo, yogurt, peach
    L: tilapia, salad.
D: salmon, green beans, yogurt with peach compote
    S: salad, 1/2 a blueberry pancake

Miriam- (ps my friend just named her daughter that!)Well, if you presoak the chia seeds I think youll be okay. They get all jelly like from soaking so they are great to use to thicken things. If you follow the recipe you should be good! Let me know how it goes.

  7. Jedi- let me know what you make and if you need any assistance! Yay!

SF88- I KNOW! I wanted to do one last year but they were all full, so I had to wait a year. Mine filled up in MARCH! This far, I am very happy with it, and the farmers are so sweet and kind, love them!

  8. B: Smoothie- whey pro, avocado, peach, yogurt, almond milk.
    L: bbq!
D: Snacks- cherries, patty pans, baba ganoush, and I am ashamed to say... a handful of dates chopped and mixed with slivered almonds and a couple tablespoons of oats. I ate it a la cereal... I wanted a crunch, so maaaybe that was a little better than the REAL cereal I was craving. Now, I just feel all bloaty and GROSS.

i am doing bbqd salmon with your curried zucchini and beets drizzled with homemade yogurt(not totally primal i know). the starter is chillied prawns+coriander and then the dessert is coconut milk custard from yesterday's main post (subbed coconut milk for the almond milk ;)

  10. Here's one that I have, that (I think SoG posted, I forget who):

    Caveman Custard

Dairy Free, No Sugar Added Custard (If you like yours sweeter, all you need to do is add more bananas!)

    Ingredients:
    - 2 bananas
    - 1 can coconut milk
    - 3 eggs
    - Cinnamon

    Directions:
    1. Combine all ingredients except for cinnamon in a mixer and mix well.
    2. Pour into custard or souffle cups (coffee cups or other oven safe containers work fine if you don’t have custard cups).
    3. Sprinkle top with cinnamon.
    4. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for approx 45 minutes. Custard will balloon a bit and you may see some liquid… its ok, it will work itself out.
    5. Chill.
    6. Serve and enjoy.
This makes a tasty treat! Careful though… it is easy to overeat.

I haven't tried either version yet (still on "Survival Week"), but I wonder which one is best in taste and macros...

Tara I couldn’t get a few of the ingredients for your chia pudding so just made my own from what I have in the cupboard: chia seeds, walnuts, pepitas, coconut flakes, coconut cream and boysenberries, I heated the coconut cream and berries together and then using my mortar and pestle crushed the other ingredients (I don’t have a food processor) and mixed the them together and it is devine, really good for a cold morning when one wants a hot breakfast :)

  15. Yeah whatever! Its TOTALLY adaptable, I just show people options, but I am glad you made it your own! Ill have to try it warm sometime. Not very soon though, as its about 90F/32C right now here.

  18. Maybe I should title this diary as such:

DIARY OF A PBer HAVING HORRENDOUS LUCK AND COMPENSATING WITH ICED CREAMS.

There. I said it. I have NOT had a good few primal days. Why you ask? My luck is horrid this summer. Lots of crap hitting the fan and its ALL out of my control. I can only control my responses (which, thus far, I am convinced is the reason I am still sane). I mean really.

SO, Sat night after work I try to turn on my computer AND SPARKS FLY OUT THE BACK. I am okay realizing that 2000+ songs and 3000+ pics are at risk of being lost. I am normally exceedingly awesome at dealing with stress. But what really throws me for a spin and causes a slight panic, is when I realize that my essay fpr my med school application is on that computer! I have a backup copy, of course but the latest edit is on there. WHY?! Luckily my dad is a comp geek so I take it to him Sunday. Its okay, just a blown power source so he replaces that. Then I realize that I havent renewed my virus protection. Crap. Promptly discover I have the lovely "System Security" virus which is blocking all my applications. ALL. Cant even open my task manager. Eat ice cream. Monday I was craving cereal. So I "made" some more out of: slivered almonds, pepitas, chopped dates and oats. Eaten with raw milk. Delicious. Carby. TIME BOMB. Then Tuesday, I was doing really well with the diet. I was hanging out with the little sis (she is 7) waiting to see Harry Potter ( :D ) and decided it would be a lovely idea to get some gelato. I mean, I ordered a small, so thats a leetle better than a med or large right? Man, it was tasty. Fig gelato. YUM. Then I crashed. Sugar crashes are SO MUCH worse when youre primal. I felt drugged. Whatever, I recovered in time for the (awesometastic) midnight show of HP. Wednesday, I decided to get brekkie with a friend and the sis. I ate 1.5 biscuits. And some homemade applesauce. SO here I am today, feeling like a total slacker and fighting my sugar cravings. Since I cheated for like 3 days in a row the cravings are worse than when I cheat just once.

So basically I need some suggestions. These are the ONLY 2 things I really miss now, even since being primal as of January: cereal and ice cream. Oh and if you could throw in a suggestion about how to NOT eat ice cream when stressed that would ne awesome too. LOL.

    Cereal
I need some low carb cereal for my once in a while cravings. Maybe I can do the nut mix thing thoguh. That seemed to work pretty well.

    Ice cream
Okay, I have a maker and I have made some awesome "milkshakes" (nut butter, almond milk, whey protein, ice) and popsicles (coco milk, avocado) but I need that smoothness sometimes. Anyone have a good ice cream suggestion that I can buy? Please? I only really do ice cream in the summer, so hopefully ehen fall hits Ill be over it.

Somebody please send me some good karma and a stiff kick in the rear.

Oh yeah, today I have had:
B: egg whites with leftover taco filling.
S: coffee with splenda and cream (forgot my stevia at home since i had to come to school to access a working comp).

It's okay, Tara. It's life after all. Bad crap will happen, we will make choices, and continue on. I've been having the ice cream thoughts myself and plan on attempting to make some this weekend.

    Posted 8 months ago #
  21. Thanks. Maba- I guess I should be thankful its only lasted a few days. Not like I ate a ton of pasta, but still. I feel poopy about it. If I can just do well today and tmw, I should be okay.

DCKMB- Let me know how that goes! Ice cream with summer berries shound divine right now.

    Posted 8 months ago #
  22. I'm having ice cream thoughts too. It's the weather.

Don't sweat the pasta too much. One thing I always have to remind myself when I mess up- "Your next meal is more important than your last." Don't dwell on what's done. Just think ahead to the future. :)

It does make ya feel pretty poopy though. I hate those poopy parties. :P

  23. HEY GUESS WHAT?!??!

I got rear ended on the way home fom school today. At a LIGHT. Can I get a break, really? Yeah, my bumper is all bent and it even shot my installed cd player (in the dash) out. Lovely.

  24. Ohh, I had something like that happen back in February. SUCKS so bad!

Hopefully you didn't have that much damage and it's fixable.

Yikes, that is an aweful week...but it's Friday and it will all be over soon, right?! In Conan's ice-cream experiment thread they all talked a lot about Coconut Bliss, which I think you can get at Whole Foods?? I haven't tried it, but I also haven't had any crazy sugar cravings yet so it hasn't been an issue. I think I may get a really bad pimple on my chin every time I eat real ice cream (I had one serving of ice cream 2 weeks ago and the freaking thing is just now disappearing), so I have to wait until it's all the way gone to try having ice cream again. Just for scientific purposes of course :) But that way I'll know for sure if it's from having a concentrated amount of heavy cream or not, and from there I may switch my occassional ice cream treats to coconut milk based products. And the Coconut Bliss has way less sugar than regular ice cream, so maybe it wouldn't throw your body for such a loop. I hope your weekend is much better!

TT: helluva week! Had that stupid computer virus thingie too. I hear ya with the sugar cravings!! I was bad & bought some licorice & ate way too much & felt like doody. I got the nerve to throw the rest out. Breaking that sugar addiction is the hardest part (for me anyway). I try not to have any "bad things" in reach. Keep dried fruits & nuts in my desk drawer. Stick a cpl apples in my bag every day.
I've made that custard that SF88 mentioned. I got it of of SOG's site. only tweak was fresh nutmeg (what's custard without it?) So, my thought is, why not just cook it partially on the stove, then freeze? I am meaning to try it. On colder days (I live @ 9000ft) I love it warm with toasted coconut, slivered almonds & warmed mixed berries. Primal comfort food.
I also soooo wanna get past those "bad days" & strive for a better PB %. So I'm looking fwd to this new challenge! I'm going to use that to help me improve my discipline.
Oh, & I wanna try your goulash recipe! It's farmers mrkt day & we get a buffalo guy here.
    extra bonus:
    Buffalo kabobs
marinate meat over night. I used 1/2c red wine, some sesame oil, evoo, black pepper, ginger, clove garlic (pressed) & balsamic vinegar & a little soy sauce.

next day add chunks of red onion, bell pepper, zucchini & baby 'bella mushrooms.

    skewer, grill, eat.

  28. Awwww.... I HATE getting into accidents. Sounds like it wasn't your fault though, so it should all work out in the end.

I have the makings for a delicious ice-cream just waiting for me to 'plop' it into the ice-cream maker tonight (my son is super excited!).

I took 2 cans of coconut milk and lightly simmered them down with 2 tsp of Stevia and a sprinkle of table sugar. I then added in some egg yolks along with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla & almond extracts.

I plan on whipping up the egg whites and mixing them in with the final mixture before putting them into the machine. Would this be a bad idea? Or would it be a waste of effort? Or would it make it more fluffy? Hmmm....

Holy Smokes, T !! Glad you were not injured!

  30. Thanks everyone. My normal life has taken a backseat to this crappy week, and my normal awesome PB diet strength is missing too. Im thinking that bad things happen in 3s so now SOMETHING good has to happen!

Diana and Miriam, thank you to you lovelies!

Hannah, Ill have to get that soon, but the nearest WF is an hour away. Maybe they have something else at the health food store?

Peggy, Ill get back to my PBing soon! Ive done very well yesterday and today. I even made myself a little tamarind-date-coconut snack as a 20% thing. I KNOW how to PB, Ive done it since Jan... I just need to kick myself in the booty now! LOL.

SF88, I would think that is you added some cream of tartar to the whites that it may add to fluff effect. Not like a super airy one though, as everything else seems pretty heavy and would deflate the whites. Another thing that help ice cream stay soft: liquor! I tried to make coconut milk/ avocado ice cream a couple days ago, but it was SUPER hot in my house, so it never froze right, even with the ice cream maker bowl. Meh. I made popsicles instead! ;)

    Bad things today: 0
Good things today: I found an extra $55 dollars hidden in a stack of laundry! Um, I had lunch with a good friend, which is always nice. I did aformentioned laundry, so now Im all caught up on housework. AND i am investigating about a boy.

    Im trying here people.

    B: nada
L: 1 pork soft roll, 1 vietnamese coffee, beef with lemongrass and veg, no rice, broth of wonton soup.
