  1. Sunday, 9/27
Rained all day & we were stuck inside.
B'fast: Sunday treat of almond pancakes w/ blueberry sauce, sausages & coffee w/ cream
    IF'd lunch; wasn't hungry
Supper: primal meatloaft & mashed turnips with bacon. Those turnips rule! They were soooo good. The hub had 3 helpings!

WOD: doggy walk in the rain. And, had on a pair of pants I haven't been able to wear for over a hear & even then they were tight. This time tons of extra leg room & the waist fit just fine! Woohoo!!!

  2. Monday 9/28...

Started the day with an evil body weight workout: 25 pushups, 35 squats, 15 Burpees, 15 stair jumps & 25 kettlebell swings. Used an 8# weight since I don't have a KB & that was pretty light but I couldn't manage both 8#'s. Hands aren't that big!! After lunch I did a doggie walk with the kidlets. Nice.

And, EXTRA BONUS, wore shorts I haven't been able to get into for YEARS now. Woohoo!!!! I was totally psyched!

    Eats:
b'fast: scrambled eggs w/ cotswold cheese, sausage & coffee w/ cream (the Hub made brekkie. Whatta nice guy!)
Lunch: salad w/ turnky, ham, goat cheddar, lettuce & tahini dressing
Supper: sauteed beef & veggies w/ salsa & a little cheese
    Afternoon coffee & cream.

  5. Thurs Oct 1

HUGE cheat day since it was one of my kidlets' birthdays & we went out for sushi! YUM!

    B'fast: bacon, coffee w/cream
Lunch: a little paneer, andouille sausage, 1 tbs almond butter
supper: SUSHI! woohoo! It was yummy, too. And I had this awesome shrimp salad thing with shrimp, cucumber, onion & seaweed. Very tastey. Even had a little plum wine. Totally didn't pig out, though. And no cake later (gluten intolerance). I did have a little ice cream but only a few bites. Just didn't taste as good as it used to. Soooooo sweet.

  6. Monday 5 Oct

Had a weekend-long reenactment with lots of rain (bad) and lots of meat (good!). Have to say, gained about 5 pounds from the sushi (water weight) and peed it all out on Saturday. Yuck! Hmm...sushi & mildly uncomfortable pants vs primal and comfy pants...

Weekend was lots of meat: bacon, sausage, venison, beef; bacon, sausage, cheese, German sausage & sauerkraut. Yup, that about sums up the whole weekend! :)

Today: eggs, bacon & cottage cheese + coffee w/ cream. Not sure about supper yet. Will figure out something primal - probably some kind of meat + kale (the world's *best* veggie!).

WOD: hauling very heavy wet canvas tent around so it dries; dragging around loads of wet linen reenactment clothes & hanging them on the line in all their heavy wetness. The dragging everything up the stairs to be put away. Ugh. Altho I get smart and iron them NOW so I won't have to do it next time.

Oh wow. Plum wine? Interesting and tasty I'm sure!

Ohhh... cottage cheese. That sounds good. I haven't had it in ages. How do you do kale? I've always wanted to try it, but I'm intimidated by unusual veggies- lol.

    Cool workout. ;)

  8. Hey Diana! I have two fave ways to make kale. #1 cook 4 - 6 slices of bacon nice & crispy; remove from pan. Chop a bunch of kale & put in pan w/ bacon fat, about 1/4 C water or broth & 1 TBS apple cider or herb vinegar. Cook until the kale turns an OD green color and is nice and tender. Serve w/ bacon crumbled on top. #2 way is the same but just using bacon fat I've saved from earlier in the day. Kale is also good with sliced, sauteed garlic or topped with gomasio (sp? - ground sesame seeds w/ garlic & sea salt). Even the picky 5 year-old eats it. :)

  9. Tues 10/6

Lazy, again today! Well, workout wise, anyway. Did the 2-doggie walk in the evening.

Brekkie: 3 bacon and 2 fried eggs & coffee w/ cream.

    IF'd lunch

Supper: 2 bratwursts, homemade sauerkraut, & kale (cooked in bacon fat & chicken broth)

Snack: 2 tbs almond butter and coffee w/ cream

    Actually did a FitDay breakdown: 162 g fat (80%!); 27 g carbs; 65 g protein.

Ditto on the lazy workouts. It's hard sometimes to get (and stay) motivated.

  14. Thurs 10/7
WOD: dog walkies for about 1.5 miles and did my heavy lifting for the week with some heavy gardening (moving compost). I was out there for 3 hours doing that & a bunch of stuff. *Love* fall weather!

Today: 2 sausages for brekkie & coffee w/ cream
Lunch: curried chicken salad & spinach (finally got around to making some mayo).
Supper: Leftover chicken made into chicken curry.

Think I OD'd on the curry!

  16. Oh, what a slacker I was about updating over the weekend!

    Sat.
Brekkie: almond pancakes, sausages & coffee w/ cream.
Lunch was more like a snack - some slices of hard sausage, a few walnuts & a couple slices of apple.
Supper: we went out for Thai. I had red curry w/ beef & extra steamed veg on the side subbed for the rice. It was really yummy. I made Sassy's no flour choco cake as it was the hub's birthday. Everyone loved it & I had a little piece.
    WOD: pushups & squats.

    Sunday
brekkie: cheese omelet & sauteed garlic sausages; coffee w/ cream
snack: handful of walnuts & 1 slice hard sausage (had a craft fair)
supper: left over curry & a napa cabbage salad w/ shredded carrots & almond slices. I made an asian style dressing to go on it. One little slice of cake, too.

WOD: carried cinder blocks like a quarter mile to hold my canopy down in the wind. Plus unloaded & loaded up the car. :)

I love reading your journal. Your cooking sounds so yummy- especially the curry and asian stuff. I find it intimidating. I love your workouts too. Carrying cinder blocks is totally Primal!

    Hi.
I just clicked on your name and realized you are in MA too.
I am in north attleboro....not to far from you!!

Great job with the eats and workouts. Keep it up!!
I have been slacking a bit on the workouts lately...I am blaming it on the change in weather :)!!

Great website. Maybe I will take one of your classes. When are you having the winter herb class?

    AMY

  19. Thanks, Diana! Although I have to say I really feel like a cooking slacker. I used to cook a lot, but I do so many more things now that it's hard to sit down & plan like I used to. I've become queen of the quick primal meal!

  20. Amy, thanks for the comments! I'm not doing any thing formal here this fall as I've not had enough interest. However, I'm doing a 2-hour workshop at Michaelmas Farm in November. Here's their website: http://www.michaelmasfarm.com/fall2009programs.html . I'll have the handout for that on my website after the class.

Since you live so close, if you'd like to do an informal one-on-one chat (well, with kids, too, as they're always here!) drop me an email. I can do an informal medicine-making class. I have to start stocking up for next year on the stuff that takes a year to brew.

  21. Lotso' curry goin' on around here! ;-)

I too am a cooking slacker. I just grill up a steak and eat.

Poor family is craving some variation.

I did vary it up for them last week. I bought some Chorizo and stuffed the pork chops with that wonderful stuff! Hubby said it's just the thing he needed, as he was starting to get bored. :-D

  22. Monday, 10/12
Brekkie: 2 fried eggs w/ salsa & cheese; coffee w/ cream. Really wished I had some bacon to go with the eggs!
    Lunch: I think I IF'd lunch.
Snack: 2 TBS crunchy almond butter.
Supper: skirt steak & mashed celery root. The steak was really fatty & it's cold in the house so the fat congealed on the cold plate! yuck! I was nice & put hubby's plate in the oven. I guess we should turn on the heat soon!

WOD: dog walkies with kids. And I cleaned out my clothes closet. Not really a workout but it sure was nice to say bye-bye to sizes XL, L, 16 & many of the 14's. Woohoo!

Yay for cleaning out the closet! It feels so good to get rid of those sizes doesn't it? Especially when you know you'll never have to see them again. Congrats! :D

    cotswold?

  29. Cotswold is a aged English cheddar with chives in it. So good, especially with nuts. :) I really like my English cheese.

Brekkie: coconut/squash pancakes, sausages & sauteed apples; coffee w/ cream
