Only thing I've been drinking since converting to the primal lifestyle has been water, and the occasional glass of wine here and there. Other than that, it's pretty boring drinking. I think it's supposed to be.

You can't drink coffee or tea without sweetener? There are some nice herbal teas that have a lot of flavor with no added sweeteners, you could try those.
I don't drink much of anything to be honest, I hate drinking tons of water so I might get in 2 8 oz glasses in a day along with maybe 8 oz of coffee. If I'm not thirsty I'm not going to force anything down.
Other than that, you could try squeezing lime wedges into ice water, that's always a nice twist.

MHO is don't drive yourself nuts. If you want one other drink during the day go ahead. That said, 2 things. Apple Cider and honey as a sweetener for your coffee or tea. I don't know or care if either is primal. Peace.

i drink sparkling mineral water if i feel the need for 'soda' drink 8-12oz black coffee 1x daily and herbal tea in the evening. a glass of good red wine 1x weekly

Eh I put stevia in my coffee every day. I find it to be a rather conservative part of my 20%.
I also drink a glass of red wine every day.
Otherwise, it's just water and green tea (I use a mint-flavored green tea that's not too bad unsweetened).

water

I like (cold) green tea with about an ounce of pomegranate juice in it for sweetener.

Im pretty sure theres no or very little evidence against stevia, definitely more for it in helping with blood sugar stabilization and natural. So you can drink water, tea, coffee, occasional alc, protein smoothies( find a good tasting natural protein and mix with fruit, nuts, almond butter, ect..)
You can use stevia in the coffee or teas, or you can drink them black. I stopped using sweeteners all together (including stevia, protein)but thats personal choice. Going primal doesn't have to mean that.

I found some awesome tea here: http://www.amanzitea.com
The roasted almond doesn't need sweetener!! It's so good!!

HMMMMM coffee without sweetener! thats coffee out of the equation for me then, i think my main issue is that i IF as well, and find that having something to drinks keeps me going. Tried all sorts of green tea, and yuk, without sweetener, maybe im still addicted to sweetener, probably need to get used to the taste of water!! thanks guys

Have you tried water w/ lemon or herbal teas w/ lemon. I find that lemon adds an interesting taste to teas. Or just plain spearmint or peppermint teas - the menthol leaves a very refreshing taste in the mouth. I was just like you, I thought I could never ever drink coffee w/o sugar but I started reducing the amount used slowly and now I don't need it at all. But I still need (want?) milk in my coffee.

What about herbal teas? Don't try camomile though - it's the spawn of Beelzebub! I'm currently on a 24 hour fast and have drink water, apple & ginger tea, raspberry tea and now I'm on a lovely peppermint, with fresh leaves.
Just water would be dull, and I think if I had coffee, I would spin off the face of the earth with the caffeine!

i think all these fruit teas are weak, and when i drink tea or coffee its for the kick it gives

Hmmm what about full fat cream! with coffee, i can handle that! apart from the fact that it might inhibit weigth loss!

Just drink water. You can break a caffeine addiction the same way you broke your carb addiction. You'll have a couple of bad days, and then it'll be over, you'll sleep better, and you'll get energy from sources your body can handle without burnout. If you absolutely can't drink something that isn't flavored, try putting a wedge of lemon or lime into it.

Ice-cold plain soda (sparklin/carbonated water) does it for me. I found out that I was not addicted to Coca-Cola; I simply really really really like the fizzy sensation of soda. Try it, you might actually enjoy it.

I'm with you on that my_second. I LOVE carbonated water now. Never really used to but now I'm a huge fan. I consider it a treat.

FF Cream in your coffee would be a good way to go.
I just drink ice water.
There are other options though, you could make sun tea with citrus fruit cut up in it.
A very lucky grok would have had honey as a treat, and it takes so little to sweeten something. Try a drizzle in your drink.
I also make frozen berry smoothies with coconut milk as a treat for me and the littles.
Chai tea? I find with all of the spices and a big glug of cream that it doesn't need any sugar.

@DCKMB: you just reminded me of my fave drink- scotch and soda water with lime. you should see the looks i get from the barman every time i ask for their scotch menu lol

I like coconut milk mixed 1:1 with water; I keep both in the fridge.

Every morning my drink before leaving home is water with some Bragg's Apple cider vinegar. Water, green tea, and coffee w/ coco milk during the day. Dinner is usually water with a splash of lemon or lime. Manzanilla is my favorite tea before sleep.

Ooh, also there's a recipe floating around this board for an egg nog type drink. Sounds like it could be tasty cold or warm, and lots of different flavor options.

Make your own almond milk or coconut milk with no sweeteners. You can also add a flavors like vanilla bean or almond extract.
I have been drinking water only for almost 3 years now (okay I had hot chocolate once or twice in there!) and it doesn't bother me at all. I used to hate water when I was little so I have no idea how I made the transition to be honest.

What's apple/ginger tea?
Posted 4 months ago # -
Hot black coffee with heavy whipping cream and a pinch of coconut oil.
My morning cup of consciousness.

you'll get used to water eventually 9make sure it is cold, lukewarm water tastes like... lukewarm water :-> )
just like stopping smoking, in the beginning you cannot imagine ever being without it, but then you get used to not smoking...I still put sugar in my coffee though... make it part of the 20%

I mostly just drink water. Anything else makes me thirsty anyway. I also have some green tea and sometimes regular tea, and at most one coffee per day (black or with double cream). That's more than enough variety!
I fail to understand how anyone can enjoy tea or coffee with sweetener. Tea in particular is so much nicer unsweetened! But I realise that how you take your tea and coffee can be a very personal issue ;).
