I didn't really play attention to the commercial, but I swear they just said that KFC has made a sandwich with 2 chicken breasts standing in for the bread. I couldn't find anything on their web site. Anyone else seen it?

I was watching the tonight show, so maybe it was a sketch --- could it be?

    I don't know what to think. :)

I think it was bacon actually :)

I guess it must have been a sketch. I guess I was the only one who saw it.

Settlers in North America during the colonial period apparently found wild turkeys so plentiful that they did use slices of turkey breast in place of bread. I remember reading that in The Eyes of Discovery.

Yeah, I just heard it on the radio today too. I guess they do it in 2 states right now to testmarket the item. Also, I don't really understand the reason behind creating such a sandwich. If it's suppose to be low-carb, what about breading on a chicken and KDC sauce? If it's suppose to be healthy, no one will go for it because people are afraid of fat. It's also pretty expensive.

  12. Am I crazy to think that would be awesome?
I kinda want one now... what states are they in, does anyone know?

one of the states is Nebraska.
You seriously want one of those? I don't know:)
It has fried chicken, btw...not the grilled stuff.

If the chicken wasn't breaded, it might be OK in a pinch.

I first saw it on http://www.thisiswhyyourefat.com/

    I like the idea.

Now I'm thinking of grilled meat wrapped around more meat.

There is a cut of meat called mutamba (sp?) which I think is the thin bit of meat around a cows stomach. Apparently it's used to wrap around diced meat, eggs, etc and then cooked like a roast.

I'll have to ask the Italian butcher about it again...

    FWIW:

Carl's Junior has a "Low-Carb" Six-Dollar burger for $3.95. It's an Angus burger patty wrapped in lettuce leaves with lots of onion and tomato.
I'm thinking, if you have to eat at one of those places....

  17. I dunno... maybe I think it looks decent because I'm thinking of a home-cooked version. I don't remember the last time I set foot in a fast food place, so... my frame of reference may be off.

Kuno I had to eat on the road last weekend, and we stopped at a Hardee's (Carl's Jr. for the east coast). The Low-carb Six-Dollar burger was decent, I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty big, and tasted okay. There wasn't much else to choose from (gas station, Burger King, McDonald's), so it was the lesser of fast food evils. First time in months that I'd set foot in a fast food restaurant also, I never eat at them when home.

Tarlach the skirt and flank steaks are fairly thin, and could be pounded a bit thinner still. I also have "shadow steaks" in my fridge right now for making jerky, but those are really thin (less than 1/4 inch) and about 12" long in a large oval shape. They're cut from the top round. Your wrap idea sounds amazing...I'm going to think about it for next week...

hannahc> It might be the flank steak. We get skirt steak for jerky (it's not that) and it's prepared a similar way. The butcher just doesn't call it flank...

Check out braciole or involtini on Google for some wrap ideas.

There are some awesome recipes for involtini, I think I may do that with my shadow steak this weekend! Leave out the breadcrumbs, and it sounds delicious. Thanks Tarlach :)
