Kettlebells - Love Them
(9 posts) (7 voices)-
My kettlebells arrived this morning. Female starter kit, and I loved it. It is so much fun, throwing those things around. I have a long way to go to build up strength, but I managed 30 mins and I feel great.
It was a circuit program and I cant wait to do it again. I might be saying something different when I wake up with the soreness in the morning.
But for now I just had to share.

Oh that hurt the next day or two ;)Posted 8 months ago # -
Thanks Tarlach,
Will keep that in my favourites... I am taking the warning about the hurt, will head out now to go for a walk to move that lactic acid around.

Try Crossfit.com for amazing KB workouts and proper technique. Our WOD last night was Double KB clean, squat and press. Got thru 7 rounds of 5 w/25# KB's before I had to tap out. I'm sore as heck and a little bruised today but boy-o-boy do I feel great from it (and the sleevless top I wore to work today certainly looks better with pumped up arms!) Enjoy your new workout tools. You're going to love them!!

look up "turkish get ups" and do those with your kb's. amazing move that really challenges and strengthens your core. they are one of my faves.great for balance too, esp when you switch to your non-dominant arm.

I've been doing kettelebells for quite a while and you need to make sure you're doing it right. Don't just follow any YouTube video, many of them are terrible. Most of them are laughable, actually. Get Enter The Kettlebell (book and DVD) from Dragondoor and do the program. Stay at the program minimum (two exercises, Turkish Get Ups and Swings) for a good long time and get really good at doing them with perfect form. Whatever you do, *don't* rush into the next step and start adding more kettlebell exercises too soon, you'll be safer and make faster progress doing it the right way.
Turkish Get Ups are a fantastic full body exercise. I've had some chronic back pain issues most of my adult life, partly from riding bicycles to excess, and the combination of TGU's and swings completely fixed the problem. I can do anything (within reason) and never get even slight back pain.
Two arm swings for high reps with a heavy bell are amazingly intense and will max out your HR right away.
Seriously, get your information on proper form and what to do from Dragondoor.

I'm planning to order these. I'm 5'0", 115 lbs, female. I've been doing weights the conventional way with a pair of 5 lb weights for the last 4 years. What would you recommend for me?

I absolutely love my K-Bell. But yeah, it will let you know you have an arse, exactly where it's located, and define its precise circumference with a concentrated radius of hideous throbbing pain the next day.
Lets just say bowel movements become great fun and squat toilets seem like an awesome option over the hard seat that comes with most standard models.
re: Turkish Get-Up - I love this video . . .

Yeah, I still need to get out more.
Jeff Martone over @ cross fit has some great instructional videos that cover Kettlebell basics.
Hopefully Mark's new spam filter won't eat my post.
