just wondering - what are you doing for a living?

  1. Right now I'm really into writing, kinda-sorta working on a book. I'm also doing a lot of travelling and research for that book. I also do painting, pottery and photography, each one at least once a day. My main interest is in becoming as self-sufficient as possible so I can avoid the drudgery of paid employment. Everything is stuffed under that term. I follow my bliss, I guess.

I also garden, go on camping trips on my bike, explore my community, take pictures, cook & bake, teach the occasional class, paint, read a lot of library books, play my guitar violin & drums, go to lectures and talks, discuss philosophy, build homes, create things and whatever comes along that excites me. I like to stay open to possibilities when they come so I can jump on them. That's how I got the opportunity just this last summer to go to a 12-week intensive on creating sustainable communities, volunteered as a teacher and got free room and board. Not only that, but several people came up to me afterwards and complimented me on my inspirational words. :D I think hearing that made my year.

But saying I'm "doing" something misses the point. I don't "do" these things, I am these things.

If i could do it again i probably wouldnt change much at all... maybe focuse more on paleoanthropology as was the plan originally since i was 12, but in estonia that would never work out...

In a parallel universe i wouldnt have dropped out of artsuniversity and would be a proffessional painter...

  3. @jess i don't do a thing with athletic training! i went biology all the way in my career because the sexism was just too great in the AT world. i wanted to work for the NHL (i love ice hockey) but the Pittsburgh penguins trainer sat me down and gave me a reality check. he was right as much as i hate to admit it so i pursued science for my daily income.

After I got my master's in Computer Science, I applied and got accepted into the graduate program in Anthropology at my University. But everyone around me advised me against it. I wouldn't mind going back to school at some point to study it.

@Paleo_Piper, your lifestyle almost seems unrealistic to maintain with a family! May I ask your age?...

@misathemeb, I was thinking of doing athletic training as well, and I was told that I should set myself up to work on a sports team...Didn't seem very easy...Did you learn anything valuable though?

Interesting thread...cool to see what everyone does

I spent 4 years in Materials Science research, 12 years working in semiconductors, then became owner of a Theatre Company for a few years...now working w/ dogs & own my own supplement biz. Not sure what I'll do next, but it will be different from what I did before :)

    Climbing bum.

    Er...

College student ... currently a junior pursuing a bachelor's degree in geology. So, basically, "what I'm doing" is managing a 17 credit hour courseload (of real, legit classes, nothing like Recreation 101 lol).
At least I get to pound on rocks with a hammer for my classes.

I'm still trying to decide what I want to do when I grow up!! In the meantime I've tried and rejected :- nanny, checkout chick in supermarket, police constable, receptionist/assistant in dentist office, sales person (insurance) and I'm currently working in an office doing data entry and swearing at the boys at work when they make really really stupid mistakes that I have to fix!

Work in Medicine, mainly the Operating Room. I am an electrophysiologist/neuromonitoring provider (not an MD).

Long story short, during large brain tumor/aneurysms and/or spinal surgeries I test the sensory, motor, and specific nerve root pathways to give the surgeon information to prevent any new deficits he may not see occuring.

Great field. Becoming a standard of care in almost all neuro surgeries..

I'm a technical writer with a large online retailer, slowly moving more into program management. I love my job, eagerly going to work each day, but my true love is organic gardening. Maybe two loves, as I also love to cook, especially experimenting with various ethnic cuisines and figuring out how to primalize past favorites. Also a voracious reader, at least 4 or 5 books a week.

  17. @Jess, I'm 28. Sometimes I do these things with my brother and father, in fact, I inspired my brother to volunteer for a year in Japan and he just started up his own fashion company, despite majoring in geology. It's more important to us to have lives we live rather than a whole lot of income that is just turned around into living.

Of course, you probably meant children. I don't have children and this is exactly why.

IT support at public women's hospital. Gah, it's such a frustrating job and I don't end up having a baby here, because I know what a lot of the nurses are like!

Training to be a body attack instructor (yes yes, group fitness, chronic cardio, bad bad, but I love the dynamics)

Ideally, I wish I did something along to lines of economics and development studies, would love to work in overseas aid work for while, at least least for a NGO and doing something that makes the world a better place.

@Paneristi, do you have a sleeve tattoo, or is that just the lighting?!

@paleopiper, I'm envious..I'm not too concerned with having a wealthy job either, as I prefer to live more simply..Which is why I'm reconsidering taking out (thousands..thousands..and thousands..) of dollars to get a phD in physical therapy. For what, really? But I DO realize the importance of education so, fittingly, I'm aiming towards a degree in one of my personal favorite passions, exercise..

Hopefully I will be able to explore my many other interests like yourself! Are you single on your own?

@Cubicle Inmate, I love stand up! Are you on Youtube yet? ;))

Medical device sales here. I sell the equipment physicians use to fix the arteries that we screw up with our horrific diets. If the whole world went primal I'd be out of a job! No more vascular disease!

If money were no object I'd own and operate a primal gym...similar to Crossfit but not affiliated with them.
