I'm in recruitment. I sort of fell into it four years ago but I'm not a natural salesperson and am not a big fan of the telephone. I hate that I sit all day, too. But at least I have a job and a salary!

I'm currently in optics design and hoping to get into medical device or engine design. At home I'm working on a HVAC system that is currently in the second prototype stage and used as my dog's AC house in the hot TX summers.

Analyst for the State of CA, which requires me to sit on my butt for most of the day. I try to get up every hour and run down and up 5 flights of stairs.

I'm also a part-time currency trader for myself.

Full-time student (illustration major at Massachusetts College of Art and Design) and part-time dishwasher/busser at a cafe.

I may drop the job soon -- the last half of any semester is always insane with final projects, next semester is my final semester at college oh god oh god, and I really want to focus on building up my portfolio, making a website, and maybe starting commission work. 21 hours of class a week + at minimum 25 hours of homework + commuting time + work = not a lot of rest.

Now what I'd like to know is...How many of you actually used your college degree for your career? ;)

It doesn't matter what your degree says... there are only 5 jobs in this world.

    1 Production
    2 Research and Development
    3 Accounting
    4 Sales and Marketing
    5 Social worker.

There is no difference between a cop, fireman, teacher or nurse. They are all social workers.

As a civilian, I'm the security manager for my company. I've just been mobilized for the military though, so for the next year I'm a full time soldier. I don't have to wear a uniform though. ;)

  23. Chef! I loves to get my cooking on. I could spend all day in the kitchen (and sometimes do) and that's when I'm happiest. Feeding someone a great dish is the closest thing to being in the sack with them. But that discussion is probably best left for some other site! lol

@jess: If I could go back now, I would have gone into Law Enforcement from the get-go. With a few notable exceptions, I find I have a lot more kindred spirits there, than in the Private Sector.

I'm an Environmental Regulatory Specialist for a large Chemical Company. My degree is BS Biology/Chemistry. If I had to do it all over again I would be an Orthodontist.

My true calling would be a flyfishing guide. Alot of fun but would never pay the bills

  27. Started out college to be a Dental Hygienist, but momma-dearest screwed that all up for me....but, I digress.

I was also going to go to school at the top Hollywood makeup schools, but alas, my mother borrowed half of my tuition money and I haven't painted faces professionally since....

May I mention that I have 'mommy issues'? ;-)

Anyway, I started here as a 'phone monkey' (ie temp) and have been here ever since (12 years this February).

I am an Assistant Program Manager for a Database Marketing company. We custom-create databases and marketing software to support the 'Channel'. Personally, I help develop the software/ app to analyze TCO (total cost of ownership) on a fortune-500 client's print devices. I also run their Help Desk and utilize the tool to create analyses for their internal sales representatives and some of their resellers.

I am dying to move on to my 'passion', but I have been our family's bread-winner the past 12 yrs, so I am 'stuck'.

I enjoy it, but I am not changing the world here, that's for sure!

  28. I'm in sales for a candy manufacturer......I know. Hypocrite. But it's a job I fell into several years ago, and as you know "In this economy"......

  29. @Jess, considering I dropped out of college to persue my interests, I guess you could say I'm using my degree for my job! Using the time I would've spent on a degree in pursuit of my real passions.

Had I the chance to do it all over again? I'd drop out of high school and not waste time in that prison and do the same thing I'm doing now. L-I-V-I-N.
