Food Processors

Gearing up to buy a food processor (finally). Want to be able to make my own almond & coco flour etc. and I think it might come in handy with the holidays approaching. I need something on the cheaper end and I have never owned a food processor- don't even know what they look like. Yes I could google it, but I don't want to. Would like your feedback instead. Any recommendations?

Hubby bought me an expensive Cuisineart. Yeah, then he proceeded to break it for me too!
It was very sturdy, with thick glass for the blender and then the food processor unit was sturdy too, but ultimately, it broke.
Then, he bought me a super-cheap one from a discount store and the accessories were minimal and it broke too (the locking/ safetey tab on the bowl broke, so I have to stick a plastic knife in there to trigger the safety mechanism to unlock).
My experience thus far: Expensive doesn't always mean 'sturdy' and an extended warranty may be necessary. You can buy one from eBay and then use their 'extended warranty' service. I used that for my new GPS. The warranty was cheap and it's hassle free, from what I understand.
My next one will be sure to have all the 'features' I need, because the one I have has a meager blade which does NOT completely turn stuff into 'flour', whereas I have to use my tiny little coffee blender or 'Bullet' blender to do TINY little batches, which is NOT fun.

Here's a great site: http://www.epinions.com/Food_Processors
I like going here for non-computer items and then Cnet.com for cell phones and computer type items.
It's always nice to know what to look out for, what people noticed based on their use and what you could expect to pay for what you are looking for.
Love the internet. Buyer beware.... :-D

I bought a Braun from Costco for what I seem to remember was a good price. It's pretty basic, but it does what I want and I use it all the time. From what you described all you need is a chopping blade, which all food processors would come with.

I have a basic Kitchenaid that's a few years old--I think it's still basically the same as what's for sale now. I don't use it that often, but I've never had a problem with it. Works perfectly. My mom has a Cusinart that she's been using steadily for YEARS and is still chugging away, so IMO you can trust models from both brands. I admit that I've never made coconut flour in mine, however. But grinding nuts has always been successful.
Vitamix is supposedly exceptional at making flours, btw (among other things) though it's pretty pricey and I think you have to pay extra for the "dry" blender jar.

I have a 7-cup Kitchenaid (it's a medium one), and it comes with the chopper blade and the wheel that does julienne and shredding. The chopper blade is perfect for making almond flour and butters, and chopping everything really, and the shredder wheel is awesome for making cauliflower "rice" or shredded carrot for different recipes. I also make mayo in it, I made butter in it, salsas, pestos....everything! I couldn't live without it I don't think :) I got it as a Christmas present last year, but I think it's about $120ish. The Cuisinarts have way more accessories from what I can tell, and it's also a highly recommended brand, but they're more expensive. The 7-cup is nice for almost everything, though sometimes I wish I had the 11-cup with the 3-cup mini bowl attachment. That would be even more useful!
Oh I've heard the Vitamixers are pretty crazy, I wouldn't mind having one! They're somewhere in the $300 range though...a little much even if it is more than just a blender.

I have an expensive food processor, and lost a small piece which pretty much renders it useless!
I'm thinking about getting the Slapchop; seems easy at a good price.

lol sassy- just what I need- a pasta maker! ha!
The kitchenaides look promising. I'm gonna go to Costco and target this weekend to see what kind of deals can be had. I think I want the shredder too so I can do the cauliflower and also cheese.
Appreciate all the feedback!
