Got myself a pair of classic fivefingers, wow !!! They were a little awkward at first and took some getting used to but ........... went for a little sprint this morning and Usain Bolt better watch out, i was flying like i never could in a pair of ordinary running shoes. They felt great, I highly recommend them.

Welcome to the world of Fivefingers! But I bet you'll be going barefoot soon enough ;-)

I was going to post about mine tomorrow! I got sprints last Friday, and I've done 2 sprint workouts in them and basically worn them everywhere when I'm not at work. I wish I never had to wear a different pair of shoes! My legs feel tired wearing my heels now, and I've literally worn heels almost every day for the past...7 years I think. I didn't even have much of a transition/break-in time, they were awesome right away! Now I just have to convince my husband that I need a pair of classics too...

I got some this week as well. I've only worn them 2 or 3 times and haven't tried running in them yet. I've had arch problems my whole life and notice that they completely relieve the pressure on my arches (but I do notice more pressure on the ball of my feet). They also pull my pinkie toe out quite a bit but it has been smashed over by normal shoes for years so that's probably a good thing. So far I'm really happy with them and can't wait to spend some more talking walking and working out in them.

I need some! They make your feet stink though.

I wear mine ALOT! Mine are 1 1/2 years old and my toes are starting to break through them. I'm going to replace them here in the next month or two and my wife wants to get a pair when I do. I've always hated being barefoot, but I love these things.

Clint, when they start to stink do you just throw them in the washer?

I am very tempted and found a reseller in Marseille but my second toe is longer than the limit they fix for a correct adjustment (It seems that I am a Turkish with a Greek feet ;-) ). I have tried some and they were a little bit pulling back my toe. I asked them if they think that it would extend enough to become comfortable with some usage but they have never answered my mail. Given that they are quite expensive here, I am hesitating to take the risk... Have you had a similar problem, and have you abserved their extension capacity?

For now I use a pair of Vivo Barefoot Aqua and I am quite happy with them. When you use them without the supplementary sole that comes with, you feel every details of the road and my toes are very free in them. The main difference with VFF is the fact that my toes remain in one block inside, I imagine...

    Any opinion?

Yeah, I just wash them in cold water on the gently cycle.

I put them in by themselves and use VERY LITTLE to no detergent and they come out nice and non-stinky!

  10. I wonder if these would even work for me.

I overpronate substantially due to a shorter left leg (fused lower vertebrae since birth) and my arches are COMPLETELY flat! I mean, if I walk around barefoot, my legs ache and my back will go out! :-(

These may not be for everybody???

I would have to say no right off the bat. If you, medically, can't walk barefoot, then Vibrams are no different for all practical purposes.

The aching and back going out might be due to a lack of not walking barefoot and easing into it might strengthen/condition your muscles and back. I'm no MD, though, so please don't do anything w/o proper consultation. I just conjecturing.

  12. I was thinking the same thing Clint.

I was wondering if my 'pre-existing' conditions were merely exacerbated by wearing shoes all of my life.

  13. I'm also a fan of Vibrams. I've had KSOs for about a year now, love em.

As for health issues, shoes have *always* (well, once I looked into the subject) seemed to have a similar effect to a cast- immobilizing. Like Clint, I'm not a doctor, but I'm betting using your feet the way they were meant to be used would do more good than harm- counter-intuitive and unconventional as it may seem (conventional wisdom always driving towards more more more support, kind of like medication).

I have had 3 knee operations and have my shoes fitted with custom made insoles, I have fallen arches and bad hip, knee, foot alignment, yet my feet and knees feel so much more 'at ease' with FF's on.

Had mine for about three weeks, been just plain barefoot as often as possible for months, and could not be more in love with it. I LOVE having the sensory input from my soles and toes back, I love that my balance is getting visibly better (something this klutz appreciates a lot), and I love that I can move my toes independently again after years of having them jammed together in shoes. And it definitely improved my running stride- of course, it was horrible to start with, so there wasn't much room to go anywhere but up.

Nobody has a Greek toe and experimented with FF (see my question above)? Any idea about their extension capacity and adaptability, even if they pull a little on the second toe in the beginning?
You silence make me suspect that I am a sort of freak :-)

My second toe is longer than my big toe, but I don't know if it's more than 1/6th of an inch longer. I'll measure later tonight and get back to you.

I've never had a problem with mine in this regard. The top of the material is stretchy along w/ the rubber bottom, so that might give a little forgiveness with the toe length.

The only issue I have is I think I got a size too small so they're kind of tight. But I come from a sprinter's background and actually like tight fitting shoes. I'm due for a new pair and I think I'll go up a size.

    Murat,
My second toe is longer than my big toe by about 3/8" which is more than twice what they recommend !!!! Dosen't seem to affect the fit. Try before you buy !! I went for a size that the fivefingers site said and they are great, seems most people take the size from the FF website and then go a size smaller. Then again i do have long and spindly, hooked toes, my father calls them 'twig hangers' !!

Thanks Clint and Tallguy. So, there is some hope ;-)
I will give another try. The last time I was in the shop, there was a lot of people (it is the sale season here), and the seller was not happy because I was asking to try different sizes of different models to see if I can find one combination enough comfortable...I was fed up and left the shop before testing enough. I will return at a more atypical hour, hoping that there will be less customers...

Got my red sprint FF’s today, yippee.

I tried them on tonight and it was a bit weird trying to get my toes in them but they are hell comfy and also really good grip. I then put my uggies back on and the difference was funny - going for walking really well to shuffling along. Now I am wondering if I can get away with wearing them to work!

I bought black KSO's last year to wear to work. I'll never go back to normal shoes since wearing the FF's.

Between the wife and I, we have 10 pair of FF's hanging next to the front door ;).

I also got a pair about 3 weeks ago. Love them! Luckily I live in a mountain town where "office attire" is a little different (plus everyone is used to me be so also), so I wear mine to work with a skirt. as a teenager I remember I hated wearing shoes & these take me back to that time. I love the toe cup bumpers as I am a bit of a klutz. & being a girl, i will probably need to get some pink ones :-)

Crikey Tarlach, 10 pairs, thats a lot of fingers !! I am loving my classics, could do with buying a pair of KSO's, what sort of price are they in the U.S. ?? Over here in the U.K. they are £95 ($145 US) !! Think us brits are beings ripped off !!!!

In the US the FF are US$75-90ish

We get shafted in Australia also. The classics are AUS$180+ (US$150). I refuse to pay that and buy them online from the states. We don't pay import tax, so they work out much cheaper.

Thanks for that info Tarlach, where I am in Western Australia I had to order mine on-line from Sydney as they are not sold anywhere in this state and cost me $199 plus $20 postage, but since I spend that on a pair of shoes anyway not that much of a shock, but at least I know that for next time.

Well I went out shopping in them today down to my organic shop and then to the local shopping area and managed to walk through the gravely car park with ease, also felt great not having my toes pressing against each other, bye-bye evil corns!

Miriam - Pity we didn't order together online and share costs. We only live about 5 mins from each other ;)

Tarlach really! I am in Carine so you must be around here somewhere…I will look out for you in your FF’s!

By the way off topic where do you buy your meat from then? I get most of mine from Absolutely Organic or Organic on Charles (who stock Mondo’s) but been looking for pork that hasn’t been corn fed.

For the other overpronators like SassaFrass88 and I, I checked the website and it said in the FAQ we can't use orthodontics with them so, tough luck on the possible corrective soles + vibrams combo.

High-carb diet = insulin response = increased fat storage = high weight = low activity = under-developed arches hmm...
