  1. Calcium Citrate:

I saved my free-range eggshells by rinsing them and letting them sit in a basket on top of the fridge for a bit (to dry out completely). Then I ground them in my coffee grinder/ bullet blender.

I put 1/2 tsp of the powder in a small glass jar and squeezed half of an organic lemon into it and stirred. I left it on the counter overnight (put a napkin over it) and then ingested it with my magnesium powder mixed in water.

Sounds like the best form of calcium you can get. Also, it allows you to use up all of the egg, which would normally be thrown out or put into the compost, so it's a free source of Calcium!

I still don't know if I can make larger batches so that I can just take a dose every day, instead of preparing it daily. I'm so busy!

Why lemon? I've heard that the acid in citrus actually strips calcium in our teeth, over time.

Interesting...most pet raw-feeders (i.e. cat & dog owners who feed raw) regularly use crushed egg-shells as a calcium supplement, esp. when they don't have access to raw bone. It's considered one of the better calcium supplements, at least for pets. I haven't tried it for humans, but it's an interesting thought!

Interesting! No wonder egg is called a wholesome food.

I was reading in Nourishing Traditions earlier today that crushed eggshell is added to this drink made out of yams and it's allowed to ferment after that.

  6. @JamieBelle - that's exactly why the 'recipe' calls for fresh lemon juice. It extracts the calcium and other nutrients from the shell, making it an absorbent form of calcium for your body (ie, 'Citrate').

@Raphael S. - haha...well...you'll be getting your "fiber" then too. That's how it works for my doggies anyway :)
