Blissful Pairings

A while back Mark posted about how to economize on primal meals by thinking in terms of three: a protein, a fat, a vegetable.
Nudged also by a post Bryan Appleyard (the great British journalist who got me on the primal path last year) made on his blog recently:
"I have nothing to report other than the fact that, though still adhering to my near zero carb diet, I have discovered that 85 per cent Lindt chocolate smeared with Marscarpone is so delicious that it brings tears to my eyes even to mention it. I have no idea why that came into my head."
I have two blissful pairings so far that are just as quick & easy for the busy/lazy among us:
1 Scrambled omelette using coconut oil - will experiment adding coconut milk to see if I can get scrambled egg fluffiness with an even stronger "coconutty" flavor. This is my go-to breakfast on those hectic days when I know I'm not going to get time for a decent lunch.
2 Instant guacamole: halve a ripe avocado and simply shake whatever strength of Marie Sharp's hot sauce into the crater left by the pit. Give the other half to a loved one to enjoy with you to make it even more of a blissful pairing.
Any more primal / low-carb marriages in heaven out there?

Might sound strange, but this weekend I found a certain amount of bliss in genoa salami topped with almond butter.

Oh, god I had to laugh at the OP!
Avocado and lime juice.
Rum and lime juice.
Salsa with added lime juice.
I have cooked a lot of eggs in or with coconut oil, but I will have to try the milk! Sounds great.
Our neighbor just brought over a bag of mangoes, oh, how cruel! I'm going to have to eat one.....just one.....yeah, that's the ticket. With lime juice....

Blissful pairings?
Poached undyed smoked haddock with a soft-poached egg on top.
Steak with a knob of butter on. Hunter-gatherers never eat meat without plenty of fat for sound reasons -- but it tastes great, too.
Roast pork and homemade apple sauce.
Peaches and cream. The cream should probably be unpasteurized and soured at home with your own culture for high enzyme content and maximum digestibility.
Really good raw unfiltered olive oil with Spanish-type vegetables in a soup -- gazpacho in other words.

I have just discovered the power of almond butter.
Fresh apricot halves filled with almond butter are just magnificient!Posted 8 months ago # -
Mick, yes, butter on a steak. When I occasionally overcook (burn?) the surface, butter helps salve the wound.
Otherwise, salt and pepper only. All else is blasphemy. Well, I even went sans salt last time.....sigh.
BTW, for all you temperate clime BBQ'ers, apple wood is the best, the very best wood for smoking. And did you know that the lowly, common, littering crab apple is the same wood? It is, and it is the best! On a recent road trip from FL back to Colorado I replenished my supply.

I don't think I've ever had buttery steak, but it sounds fantastic.
My favorites:
-cinnamon-coated apples cooked in bacon fat or with pork
-buttery broccoli or green beans
-sunnyside up eggs (i.e. runny yolks) and broccoli
And one of my pre-primal favorites was Nutella on, well, anything...I should try making a primal(ish) version of Nutella.Posted 8 months ago # -
I think I might've just discovered a new blissful pairing. I was sitting at my desk at work with a bowl with 2 tablespoons of sunflower seed butter just snacking away when I remembered I had some Turkey Jerky in my desk.
At first I was going to eat them separately but then I thought it might be a discovery in the making, so I dipped my jerky into butter. OMG!!! It tastes out of this world. Some co-workers of mine saw me doing that and immediately go disgusted. One even asked if I was pregnant.
If you get a chance, definitely try that one:)Posted 8 months ago # -

Og, goat cheese and pecans or walnuts do taste excellent together!
When I used to live in Ukraine that was one of my favorite spreads – goat cheese with minced garlic and walnuts. You could spread it over a piece of bread or just eat it plain. Very good. I also like to make Greek Salad variations by using goat cheese and walnuts in it.The other day I discovered not-so-primal pairing which sent me flying after the first couple of sips. I made a milk shake with a cup of raw organic milk, half of frozen banana, and a cup of sour cherries. OMG! It didn’t require any additional sweeteners but it was very sweet naturally, and the flavor was out of this world. Because the raw milk naturally has a higher fat content it was easier to turn the shake into a fluffy cloud of goodness.
