The Democrats are fighting very hard for THEIR set of corporate backers, who wrote the law they are defending. In their case, it is Big Pharma, the private hospital lobby, tort lawyers with their huge firms, and medical equipment companies.

If you think high-minded stuff about "freedom" or the "Constitution" are being involved in either sides calculus here, I have a bridge to sell you in San Francisco.
I know that bridge well, I see it every day when I look out my window!

I've had lots of discussions about this same notion and my opinion was very close to yours, Lazarus, for a quite a while. It was changed quite a bit, however, after some pretty good arguments made by one of my professors back in the day. Her point was that the interest groups weren't as well organized as they are thought to be and there is a lot of emotion involved in formulating opinions to the expense of logic or even self interest.

Now while there is certainly lots of rational criticism one might heap on the ACA, you hear precious little actual rational talk on the subject. There seems to be more of a visceral knee jerk reaction against it with folks screaming "SOCIALISM!" and whatnot. The irony of course is that the way it is set up, the ACA pushes us deeper into the privatization of healthcare through the insurance companies rather than actual socialism a la something like the NHS or single payer.

Had McCain become elected and proposed exactly the same sort of law as the ACA, which isn't at all an unreasonable idea considering that ACA is essentially a Republican thought up system to begin with (almost identical to Romney's) I'd postulate that you'd see the almost the same groups of people that are wailing against "Obamacare" lining up to support it. For instance, no one really raised a fuss when Bush got Medicare part B put into place unfunded. Had Obama done the same thing they would have freaked out.
    Apathy is tyranny's greatest ally.

    Kestre,

There is so much terribly wrong in this country that it is hard to pick what is worst. IMO, the military industrial complex demanding never ending WAR is a major problem being condoned by CONgress.

However, O'Bummer is not helping the situation by being so VINDICTIVE at forcing a health plan on people that doesn't work, is too expensive, and forces people at the point of a gun. He should focus on the real health problems in this country.
Obesity, GMO Bread that is ruining the health of people, an FDA that sucks industry teet, unhealthy foods that line grocery shelves, etc.

He should focus on reducing the USA Debt by working with the politicians who want to reduce spending. He should agree that ACA doesn't work, and delay it one year to fix the bugs. O'bummer is not helping by demanding unlimited debt and an ACA that doesn't work. A president is supposed to be a LEADER, not a VINDICTIVE HORSES ASS.

I wish more would speak out but after we got slammed by the supreme court many people just lost their drive you know? I still think there was a payoff somewhere.

And do you know why the carriers havent fought back? Because you don't bite the hand that feeds you.....Bluecross here stands to gain a ton of claims processing business when this fails and we go single payer. And the government does want it to fail so we have to rely on them for healthcare.

You simply can't tell carriers they have to take all sick people and not raise rates without approval. You're setting them up to fail. Not to mention the mandate is a joke. It'd be one thing if the mandate actually penalized but it doesn't. And the young people don't care enough to get insurance to balance out the sick.....why would they with a $95 fine?

    Goldensparrow,
You are exactly right on ! Harry Reid admitted they (progressive Democrats of America) are going to put all the insurance companies out of business, then convert ACA to a single payer system.
PDA took over the old democratic party," Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country.....PDA played a key role in the stunning electoral victories of November 2006 and 2008. Our inside/outside strategy is guided by the belief that a lasting majority will require a revitalized Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles."

Of course just like O'Bummer, they are tight lipped about what they will transform America into. You have to read between the lines at PDA to realize that they are the Communist (Socialist) Party of America. Carefully read through their website to verify this: Progressive Democrats of America

If anyone owns health insurance stocks, the time to get out is before the Progressives put them out of business.

Here is the link about Harry Reid bankrupting the insurance companies:
"When then asked by panelist Steve Sebelius whether he meant ultimately the country would have to have a health care system that abandoned insurance as the means of accessing it, Reid said: “Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes.”""
Reid says Obamacare just a step toward eventual single-payer system

There is no doubt the entire health care industry is out of control with overly expensive hospitals, doctors and many reasons for it. We can all agree that "something" needs to be done. Feeding the present system with infinite tax money is not the answer. The SOURCE of all of our health problems needs to be given a higher priority. We have a national vitamin & mineral deficiency epidemic contributing to health problems. We have small fortunes being spent on old geezers who are in critical care, who will die anyway. We have people starving for vital nutrients on burgers, pop & fries suffering obesity & related health problems. We have unlimited money flowing into the Military Industrial Complex. Everywhere we look there are fires.

16.000 new IRS agents to enforce O'Bummer Care and NO new doctors??????
Rep. Kevin Brady, a Texas Republican, warns that the IRS will hire up to 16,500 new enforcers in the coming months to go after citizens who do not pay the new Obamacare tax. The expansion is said to include criminal investigators who “make cases” in order to levy penalties on scofflaws.

IMO, sorry, but the USA is clearly headed for collapse or even massive public dissent or worse. People are just not going to put up with this insanity.

    Unintended Consequences

Thousands of doctors fired by United HealthCare
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- In the midst of major changes in health care, UnitedHealthCare has sent thousands of pink slips to Connecticut doctors.

Termination letters went to physicians caring for Medicare patients. Those letters were sent out to doctors caring for 'Medicare Advantage' patients. It's a plan, marketed to Seniors to provide additional services through UnitedHealthCare.

A mix of primary care and specialty doctors are affected by it. And it comes at a questionable time.... More

Thanks. To me it means something like ObamaCare is not sustainable. Maybe it's intend it to fail.
Would I be putting a grain-feed cow on a fad diet if I took it out of the feedlot and put it on pasture eating the grass nature intended?

Who is Obama? Does anyone really know what motivates him?
This really good discussion from 2008. Focus mainly on democrat Pat Caddell's opinion

    Scott,
You are my hero for posting that fantastic video. Your video is excellent. Who is Obama? And what went wrong in the Democratic Party?

???????? Scott, do you have the correct link for part 2?

Glenn Beck has done extensive research on this very subject, and your video explains much of Glenn's material. I can totally agree with your video based on my own research.

The Democratic Party was taken over by the communists of America, AKA the "SDS Radicals" from the 1960's) they call themselves "Progressives."

In their own words, "Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country."
    Progressive Democrats of America

Your video explains who the PDA really is, where they came from, & most important who bankrolled them.
George Soros bankrolled the PDA since 2004 with his BILLIONS.

Read "Rules for Radicals," (Rules for Revolution) O'Bamas secret handbook & used by leaders of the PDA Party:

Thanks to Scott, we can better see what we are up against, a political revolution,

Yeah, it would be nice if the US had thought about all that 20 years ago.

At this point the US government is bankrupt (has been for a long time). As an analyst I've worked on the numbers for 5 years and you simply can't work your way out of a *negative* $80T NPV hole. Can't be done. So it eventually goes to default or hyperinflation (which aren't really that different).

End result is something really really bad, way beyond the 2008 crash, probably beyond the great depression, maybe not as bad as the dark ages, maybe worse. We don't know. But so bad that's it's impossible to model or estimate.

I got out years ago, got permanent residency elsewhere, moved all assets out of the states, etc.
