Starches with Fat: General Health Concern?

    Primal Fuel
    Hi all,

Just wanted to quickly refresh my memory: are there any general health concerns with combining starches and fats in the context of Primal eating? My husband has no weight or health issues at all, and eats Primal for general well being and longevity. He always eats white rice or tubers with his meals, usually cooked in or topped with fat (butter, lard, coconut oil) and has that alongside his meat and veggies. I have been telling him this is okay.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

No, other than the fact that starches are much easier to overeat when combined with fat.

Thanks. So no heart health worries or anything?

He is one of the lucky ones that CANNOT overeat. The more food I can get into him, the better, because he needs far more than he ever eats anyway. He even moderates his starches well, so not a concern if the only issue is potential overeating.

I dress all starches with fat to reduce the glucose peak.

It's true that many dangerous foods fit the template (donuts, chips) but the problem is the grain flours and refined oils. Every cuisine features starch+fat foods and there's no reason to exclude them if you're judicious with the type and quantity.

That's the French diet, basically (minus the bread). France on its traditional diet experiences one of the lowest incidence of CVD among western countries

Awesome. We're both happy to reconfirm that, since his favourite Sunday morning breakfast side is cubed potato or sweet potato fried in the lard of pastured pork bacon. :-)
