    Seattle Slim's 21-Day Challenge Journal

    I have very little time to write at the moment, but I wanted to get something in on Day 1.

    I've been here before. I am really good at falling off the wagon.

    Feel like crap. Low-carb flu? Or my usual state of being? I'm really sick of feeling sick. I was feeling "ready" and then the Challenge popped up, so I'd figure I'd better jump on!
    Starting weight: 195.8
    Weight at end of 21-day challenge: ???

    Goal: To free myself of food obsessions and maintain a healthy weight without DIEeting

    Thanks, Seattleites!

    Onward to Day 2.

    Current weight: 195.4

    Energy level: 2/3 out of 10

    Dealing with a skin rash that I have learned is due to gluten yet I keep dabbling. Looking forward to getting this cleared up over the next 21 days (along with my thinking). It really flared up overnight even though I haven't had gluten for a few days, so I don't know if it's something else I ate (beef?) or just the process of clearing.

    I would also love to sleep through the night like Mark described in his post yesterday. I always get my 8 hours of sleep, but it usually comes in 2 or 3 chunks. I feel really sleepy this morning.

    Day 3.

    I am really feeling like crap in the mornings. Foggy, can't get my brain moving. Even though I slept 8 hours last night and only woke up once (and then conking right out again). Well, at least that kind of sleep is an improvement. As you can tell, I'm obsessed with sleep! Probably because I always feel tired. Good refreshing sleep is the #1 thing I'm going for here!

    I think I may not be eating enough. It's time for a good shopping trip to stock up so I can be prepared.

    More Day 3.

    I'm suddenly feeling more alive and less foggy.

    Went shopping and plan on making meatloaf, mashed cauliflower, and green beans for dinner. Good eats for leftovers!

    I guess I should put down for the record what my personal challenge is. I'm not following the primal rules 100%. For me, the biggest challenge is simply eating real food and actual meals instead of skipping meals and then throwing some crap in the microwave or eating chips. I intend for these meals to center around protein and veggies. If I have a garnish-type amount of some of the non-primal foods on occasion, then I'm okay with that. But gluten is a huge NO.

    I'm not sure when I got so out of whack with my eating, but honestly, just sitting down and eating 3 good homemade, nutritious meals a day feels difficult. So that is my 21-day challenge!

    Day 4.

    Woke up at 6 am feeling not too shabby.

    Last night's meatloaf didn't turn out quite right .... I really don't want to eat the rest of it, wondering if I can chop it up and make a marinara sauce or something.

    Eating breakfast now at 7 am ... this is unheard of!

    Day 5.

    Woke up at 7. I am experiencing a deep sleep that's hard to drag myself out of, even though I wake up without an alarm, but then I feel pretty good. As opposed to my usual light sleep followed by lying in bed whining and then feeling draggy the whole morning.

    I'm working about 70 hours this week, but ironically being really busy is making this challenge easier because I'm forced to simplify. Turkey, boiled eggs, fruit, carrot sticks, etc. Usually I really overthink things and try to get all fancy and end up being overwhelmed. So maybe keeping it simple is the way to go for this challenge.

    Eating my leftover meatloaf and mashed cauliflower (with a touch of potato) and ready to face the day.

    I'm interested to see how you get on with the sleeping thing, as I tend to wake up during the night and get my sleep in several chunks, as you said. Good luck!

    Primal Blueprint Expert Certification
    Day 7.

    Lessons are being learned. Went to a party last night and, because I had eaten dinner so early, I was STARVING. I didn't bring anything because I went late and was just stopping by. First lesson. So I had a handful of corn chips and a bunch of guacamole-- I figured of all the foods at this party, that would be the safest. This was about an hour before bed. Woke up at 3 am with heartburn!! Second lesson.

    I also slept for 10 hours total. Wowza. Must've needed it, because other than the heartburn digression, I slept like a rock.

    I'm going to try this sprinting thing today, at the gym on an elliptical. Not sure I'm up for running at this weight.

    Maybe I should be writing down what I eat, but I feel like that brings me back to my borderline-eating-disorder days, when I obsessed about every calorie I ate. I don't want to go there again. That is the #1 reason I want to do this -- to rid myself of food obsession and just to be healthy in a sane way. (That, and the sleep.)
