So, what do you do for a living?

I'm an I.T. Guy / System Admin. I work for a company that has sent me off to the nearby naval air station, where I do the things in a hanger that dates back to the 40's. The building's no joke. They've only had to update Fire Suppression and add furniture and the like since it's been built. The thing used to house blimps and the like, but now I stare at Kiowas and Blackhawks and some other aircraft I don't identify.

I like to call myself the ITea guy. That's about as clever as I get.

I like it because it's an actual career starting job, and there's local prestige for being part of the base crowed. Spent my whole life growing up in the shadow of this place and the highly educated people who work here, and I've finally got my foot on.

    What about you?

    M.

System admin is my next goal, but right now I'm a "Help Desk Specialist" in IT. The company itself produces and supports resident screening software for property management companies. I'm working on getting my A+ certification.

Currently sell sugar water and other garbage at a gas station, but finally got another job in my field after being laid off as a nursing assistant back in March.

Starting nursing school soon too. Hoping to get involved in public health at some point.

Civil engineer. My specialty is hydraulics and hydrology, meaning I play with virtual water and virtual rain most days. Working on getting my professional license, because its nearly impossible to get or stay an engineer without that step.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, steak in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Holy F***, What a Ride!"

Lawyer. Worst profession ever. Don't do it. If you know someone who wants to go to law school, tell them emphatically DON'T. DO. IT.

Other than that, I'm secretly an aspiring novelist. I have three whole pages written. Three. Whole. Pages.

Me too. I don't think I hate it like you do, I actually like my job. But I TOTALLY agree with you about telling people not to go to law school at this point. I would never go now...

    Good luck on your novel!

Diene, I am envious of your 3 pages - that's at least two more than I have.

Hey, someone on here (Lady D, I think) told me about this: National Novel Writing Month I signed up and am now determined to write an entire novel this November. You guys can try it too. Should be fun! Lots of people succeed every year!

By the way, 100 pages is a lot. That is freaking amazing, really!

Yeah, the job market is dismal right now. The entire profession is dismal. No improvement in sight either.
