is kind of in the same vein as what Grokette might have done with her fellow ladies back in the day -- mellow activities like braiding each other's hair, relaxing together, etc.
Oh, and I had friends like that without being in a sorority. I hung out with the girls in my major, ones on the equestrian team etc. I think if you don't have a house, it is probably a lot less intense and more like an activity than a lifestyle.

Yeah I can't believe that people think they need to join a club to participate in human society and express normal social urges. Everyone on campus wants friends and to have fun.
"Ah, those endless forests, and their horror-haunted gloom! For what eternities have I wandered through them, a timid, hunted creature, starting at the least sound, frightened of my own shadow, keyed-up, ever alert and vigilant, ready on the instant to dash away in mad flight for my life. For I was the prey of all manner of fierce life that dwelt in the forest, and it was in ecstasies of fear that I fled before the hunting monsters."

Yeah, just join a club. Or start one! I started several clubs back in college and it got a lot of people being friends, to this day. A few couples even met directly because of or indirectly because of those clubs.

*chuckle* Actually the school I attended was so politically correct that we didn't have fraternities and sororities. Just clubs. We used to call them "fra-rorities." I joined the accounting one, paid my dues, was asked to sell donuts, walked away, and filed to get my dues back due to financial hardship. LOL

But that doesn't mean that I don't see the merit. And the silliness.

Who says back fat is a bad thing? Maybe on a hairy guy at the beach, but not on a crab.

When I was in college, I lived in a co-op. It was way better than the Greek system. First, it was co-ed. Second, the people were less annoying than those who were attracted to the Greek system. We used to have these outings during which we dressed up like sorority girls/frat boys and went to their parties just to mock them.

I don't know anything about them, but in theory, I think they're good. Where are you going to college? You should invite me to one of your all-girl slumber parties.

I mean there's so many ants in my eyes! And there are so many TVs, microwaves, radios... I think, I can't, I'm not 100% sure what we have here in stock.. I don't know because I can't see anything! Our prices, I hope, aren't too low!

I do think it's possible to be discriminate about which activities to partake in (beer-inhaling culture included). I haven't really let my views about Greek life be tainted by the way it's vapidly depicted in movies.
