    VLC, Primal, Daily fasting

    Primal Fuel
Anybody have any experience with being VLC and daily fasting 16/8? I'm curious about the results I may get. Due to work schedule, I do 30-35 minutes of intense body weight training at 5AM, before work. I'm half office/half field work and don't experience any drop in energy during the day. Eating occurs between 12 and 8PM. Any thoughts?

If it works for you, keep it up.

Works great for me! Ketogenic diet. Eating window from 10-6 or sometimes 12-6.

My only challenge is keeping my electrolytes balanced in the hot weather. I've increased my sea salt intake significantly.

I'm dropping my last 5lbs this way. Very slowly, but steadily.

Lean Gains - daily faster here - 20/4 eating schedule - love it - lift at 5:30pm before I break the fast.
Have consistently gotten stronger and leaner on this method

It depends a lot on what your goals are....if you are trying to gain muscle it will likely not be very effective unless you can somehow create cal surpluses in your window consistent with bulking. If your aim is cutting alone though, it will work great.

I do about 50g carbs on rest day, about 150g on training days. For me, there is no other way to hit my surplus. If you are able to though, rock on.

I am trying to lean out. I generally keep it VLC during the week and do a refeed day on the weekend, though carbs don't usually exceed 150. I also do a 1.5-3 mile walk in the afternoons. I started the 16/8 on Sunday.

Burnham: VLC= very low carb, ratio is 16 hours fast, 8 hour eating window.

Same here. Night shift ten hours, usually just eat before work, get through with hardly a pang.

I followed this protocol on strict paleo for about two years; during this time I was crossfitting 5-6 times a week fasted.
In terms of body composition the results were spectacular. It is, hands down, the most effective look good naked protocol. In terms of sports performance however, not so great. Aditionally, in retrospect, I believe it elevated my cortisol substantially but that's probably part of my crossfit training than the diet alone.

It is my belief - if you are a competitive athlete intermittent fasting on a VLC diet will probably inhibit your performance as your body (leptin signalling) will not be primed for max fuel usage. Carbohydrates should almost always be part of a competitive athlete's food arsenal.
