Have no top faves - I just scoot around almost everything, listening as the mood strikes me, trying to discover new and interesting stuff. Have 5 CDs in the changer right now, I can give those to you -

    Andreas Vollenweider
Great (opera) Tenors of the Century
Baka Beyond - Spirit of the Forest
    Legends of Polka (yes, polka)
Smithsonian Folkways collection - Classic African-American Ballads
I have a mantra that I have spouted for years... "If I eat right, I feel right. If I feel right, I exercise right. If I exercise right, I think right. If I think right, I eat right..." Phil-SC

Hey CC when hubby and I were in college we used to like to go see a band called Polkacide; Punk meets Polka. We even had a couple of wild Polka Parties, of course we included traditional classics along with some fringe interpretations and yes there was plenty of home brewed beer to quench the thirst!

It's always interesting to see how the list varies even for one person.

    Dear & the Headlights
    Manchester Orchestra
The Beatles (since I was wee)
    Everclear
    OK Go

Unsure about my last choice, but they are definitely a favorite of recent years.

Nick Marsh (obscure but hilarious in a dark and twisty way)
Howard Shore (not really a band, but I adore his music)

My list would be pretty boring. The top acts -- Beatles, Stones, Zep, Doors, Hendrix -- are popular because they're good.

So my top 5 might not really be my top 5, but a kind of personal top 5:

    1. Beach Boys -- this is based 90% on Pet Sounds, which I never tire of listening.

    2. Cheap Trick -- underrated hard-pop. Great juke box stuff

    3. Galaxie 500 -- shoe gazing at its prettiest and most somber. To be played at my funeral.

    4. Psychedelic Furs -- so sue me, I'm a product of the 80's.

    5. Gang of Four -- Marxist funk-punk, groovin' and angry.
