    Just ordered the Book, and cookbook, and I have been living here the last several days soaking up as much information as I possibly can. This community seems really awesome, and I am glad to be here. I hope that you will welcome me to your home.

    so I am certainly not new to the older style Fad Low Carb diets of yesterday, but Let me first bring you up to speed to where I am today:

    I did a total health overhaul in September of 2007 after someone who had not seen me in awhile very happily greeted me by saying " I didn't know you were expecting! " heh. I WAS NOT. I went home, drank a whole lot, cried more, and decided to change my life. I started by running. It was not an easy journey, I had trained my way to completing a Half Marathon, and also trained my way to several injuries because My undertrained and spindly legs just could not hold my weight of my gut. Fast forward a year later, I did Body For life, and made significant progress, dropping a Ton of bodyfat, and gaining some good muscle mass. Since then, I have stuggled to get all of this extra leftovers off the tummy. My arms and legs are all good, my BF% is a healthy 18% but my tummy is just not where I want it to be. I have recently started swinging kettlebells pretty seriously, and it's making a huge improvement all across the boards. Strength, stamina, all good. Now here is my issue:

    It's hard for me to wrap my brain around all of this higher fat stuff, when bodybuilding has brainwashed me into the you have to eat 6 times a day in protein/carb combinations or you will bonk your metabolisim and turn into a pumpkin way of thinking. Are we really allowed to eat all this good stuff? Eggs WITH the yolk? Beef? BACON? Am I really not gonna have to choke down another bowl of oatmeal first thing in the morning when I get up? Do I really get to stop watching the clock to see when I get to eat again? Just looking for some good feedback on how any of you who are and were already pretty athletic got your head right with all of this? and did you notice results fairly quick?

    Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, I am so new that this is my First Post, and I hope there will be many many more!

    I was very similar to your situation when starting this about 6 months ago. I had been eating "perfect" according to CW 6 meals a day, lifting heavy, running, all the good stuff.

    I stumbled across "Paleo/Primal" because of crossfit, there was a 30 day challenge which promised entirely too many good things for it to be true, but all they asked to prove it was 30 days of strict compliance. I figured I used to eat like crap for 29 years so what harm could 30 days do?

    After 30 days I was sold, and never looked back. I haven't been sick since I started. I look, feel, and perform better than I ever have (including when I was in the Army). There are studies to prove or disprove anything you want, but it's pretty hard to argue with personal experience and results you can see and feel for yourself. I decided to trust what my body told me instead of what the government did, and couldn't be happier that I did.

    Welcome. I came out of Body-for-Life as well. I completely understand where you head is and it will take some time. Start with bacon. Bill Phillips will undoubtedly whip you with it while his brother Shawn holds you, but its all good. Seriously though, getting over the 20% fat mentality was my most difficult hurdle. I run about 50 to 60% fat to make up for the lack of complex carbs, like oatmeal and brown rice. Also, I find myself adding butter or olive oil to all veggies. About 30% of my fats are "good fat" from olive oil, olives, avocados, etc. The remaining 20-30% come from meats.

    I tried to follow the continued eating every 2-3 hours and with the added fat, I felt I was forcing myself to eat. It took about 45 days for me to stop logging all my food and to start listening to my body.

    Getting used to intermittent fasting (IF) was a total shock to me. Now, if I am not hungry, I don't eat. I have not noticed any discernible muscle mass loss and I actually like the way my muscles are building this time around. I am putting on lean muscle instead of bulking and cutting.

    I would categorize the results as steady and not quick. You will see you abs slim out faster than with Body-for-Life ("BFL"). I am also losing my love handles much quicker than I ever did with BFL.

    The problem with BFL is Bill and Shawn never developed a program for after the 12 week transformation. Doing back to back 12 week transformations is not sustainable at the level that was required. Shawn has gone back to the drawing board and has made an attempt at fixing this issue, but I find Primal Blueprint to be a more sustainable long term approach. This lifestyle can actually work.

    Thanks for your post, it is a good post. i started primal about 8 weeks now and lasted for 4 weeks. Why? CW got in the way, I am still finding it hard to wrap my brain around the concept. Whilst I was on it I felt great and loved that I didn't think about eating all the time, the only time I really got stuck was for breakfast I just craved oatmeal in the morning. I still plan on starting again I just need to keep reading all these positive posts and get my head around it all, plus I am waiting for my cookbook to give me more ideas! I come from the same background as you eating 6 times per day and I have noticed since coming off primal I feel I want to eat all the time so I will be giving it another shot. I am going to re-read my book and stay positive.

    Breakfast was rough for us until we started making crustless quiche on the weekend and having that all week. Wicked good, and after about 6 months of it for breakfast every day I'm still not tired of it. Eggs, coconut milk, sausage, bacon, spinach, other mixed veggies. Food process the solids, mix it all together, bake, and cut a slice for breakfast. Top it with salsa/avocado. Yum.

    Thanks Mike, how many eggs do you use and when you mean process the solids, do you mean cook the sausage and bacon and veggies and put in processor?

    Welcome to MDA. This stuff all seems crazy now, but the more you learn, and the more you read the science, the more you will see that this makes sense and CW is pretty ridiculous.

    No, you don't have to eat six times a day to maintain health and muscle mass. If there were an animal that needed to eat six times a day in order to stay healthy, I'm pretty sure it's extinct.

    Welcome PG,

    I too did BFL with good results, but it wasn't sustainable. I have been PB since December 26th 2009 and can honestly say I have no plans of going back. The longer I am PB the more I am sure that this is really for life.

    Wow! Thanks everyone who took the time to welcome me and respond to my initial fears. My book is on the way, and I am so stoked to dive in and take no prisoners.... lol. I am sure that I will find more to question you wise one's about, and I am relieved to know there are so many nice folks here willing to do so. My Journey is sure to be interesting, But hey, I has not been dull since I began 3 years ago. If it keeps me in my size 2 and 4 jeans and I can rock a bikini it's all good.....

    Welcome, in a nutshell the answer to your questions is YES. You can do all that the PB teaches and it works. One year in for me and it's has completely changed my body composition.
