    Primal Fuel

Last night I did the belly and neck measurements to get my updated lean body mass....the good news is that it's holding LBM whilst my weight is going down again. http://www.scientificpsychic.com/fitness/diet.html

246.5 this AM, plus or minus a full 40 pounds from April. Woo hoo! "I'm too sexy for my....." Ha ha, soon, soon.

I say "again" because I tried a few days of winging it w/o Fitday entries and my weight crept up each day. So, back to the drudgery.....damn, that Fitday keeps one honest!

Anyway, I mentioned in a previous thread of my disappointment with Fitday food calorie inaccuracies. Whoa, fat in okra? Things like that. And I suspected similar with activity calorie entries, but until last night I hadn't delved into this suspicion in detail. Using www.caloriesperhour.com , which seems pretty thorough and nailed down, once again, huge differences.

A few examples per hour @ 250 lb, Fitday first:

    sleep: 77,102

my beach walk of 2.8 miles in 49 minutes: 231,345

office work, desk job: 154, 204

Adding everything up, a whole lot fewer calories! Which would explain why I have no weight loss on days that I eat 2400 calories! Fitday says I have typically a 1200 calorie deficit, the other says "You're a pig, Paul."

As an aside, in poking around on the internet I found that the old standby Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) calculations aren't so accurate if one is, um, pudgy. Also, we aren't as active as 80 years ago. I picked up one from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_metabolic_rate that uses LBM, which, however, came out very close to the Mifflin calculation.

Coming full circle, it seems that once again the otherwise wonderful Fitday is way off base and the activity calcs explain, for me, why some days no weight was lost.

    Onward and downward!

Congrats on being 40 lbs down !!!!!! You should be feeling really great about yourself and your accomplishments so far! :-)

I like using the Daily Plate better than fitday. Daily plate makes it easier to find things and uses brand names like Horizon organic and such.

hey have you considered getting a heart rate monitor (the kind with a chest strap)? Seems that would be much more accurate than a "guess" on a website for calories burned.

I have one, and it is pretty comfortable to wear around or while working out.

Eating lots but still hungry? Eat more fat. Mid-day sluggishness? Eat more fat. Feeling depressed or irritable? Eat more fat. People think you've developed an eating disorder? Eat more fat... in front of them.

I bought my wife a Bodybugg and has shown some really interesting results and her caloric burn rate, like 70 cals/hr while sleeping! It's accurate to about the 90th percentile....she is burning on avg 2400-2600 cals a day....only thing it can't do is heart rate, but it even counts your steps...not cheap though
