how many slices is one serving? the sugars might be inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Plus, it's BACON!
BACON do you guys buy... I live in Mississippi...our food sources blow and i already have to eat conventional meat and i supplement Krill oil... I saved up and placed an order with US Wellness this week so i should get it next week but it is not something I can afford to do more than maybe 3 times a year.
I JUST KEEP READING about bacon bacon bacon....
what brand or kind do you buy? anyone eat the kind at the store? anything i should look for to definitely NOT buy if i want some?
one store carries applewood uncured bacon but in ONE serving there are 4 grams of sugar, and they list carbs as 1g per serving so i already find the product a bit shady....

I grok, therefore I am.
I get uncured bacon at Fresh n Easy for $3.99/12 oz. It does have 1g sugar (but also states 1g carb so its trustworthy lol) but it is so tastey and fresh...yum.
I think I am gonna buy some beef tallow and some of those beef snack sticks from US Wellness here pretty soon. Let me know how you like the quality.
We've tried a few different kinds. Budget-wise I think the sprouts store brand was the best, but there's no info on where they get the meat for it so that bothered me a bit. Generally we just check ingredients, and look for any that seem to be as close to organic as we can get.
I'd have to check when I get home, but the general rule of lowest amount of ingredients is best. Cane sugar is in everything I've looked at. We bought "oscar mayer natural" for a while because it was on sale for way cheap, and ingredient wise looked good. I couldn't get past thinking they came from some CAFO though, so we started looking for other brands.
thanks.... it there any cut of pork beside pork belly(stores wont sell it to me) that i can salt and fry to maybe taste bacon-like?
We have a butcher here that has awesome sliced bacon that you can order by the pound. It's not very close to my house, but I'm starting to become a big fan of butchers over getting store bought meat. They prices are pretty comparable to what you find at the grocery store but the quality is way better.
I'm very lucky. I buy my bacon from a local farmer and it's uncured. The pigs are free-roaming and hormone/antibiotic free.
This is what I use for my FAST bacon or if I run out of uncurred bacon from the farmers market:

I also use the Applewood and Maple Leaf bacon, all from Costco.
Unfortunately, this does not help you one bit as there are no Costco's in Mississippi. Alabama and Tennessee have the closest locations.
