    Plantain chips???

    Primal Fuel
What's the story here? Plaintain chips fried in peanut oil? I assume they're a no-go, but want to know for sure before I refrain. Going to a restaurant that has shrimp & crab campechana served with these chips instead of traditional corn chips. What says the MDA braintrust?

I would advise against it. Peanut oil is very high in omega 6's and can throw off your body' balance. More generally, it is wiser to stay away from the majority of deep fried food.

Banana chips really aren't that great for you, especially fried in peanut or vegetable oil. It's not the bananas so much as it is the sugar and vegetable oils.

With that said, I found some banana chips awhile back that were made with organic coconut oil and organic sugar, which I threw into my Primal bars or added to other snacks.

Best kind would be homemade of course. However, if I had to choose, I would go with the banana chips over corn chips, although neither is really good so if I were you I would just pick whichever one you wanted. I would take the plantain chips because I like plantains.

However, I wouldn't be eating that anyway.

Peanut oil, like peanuts, is somewhat high in omega-6 fatty acids (namely linoleic acid). It is an essential fatty acid (must be obtained through diet), but most people get more than they should from all the oils in processed foods (soybean, corn, cottonseed oils). An excess causes systemic inflammation, so you want to keep it pretty low and balance it with omega-3 intake. All that being said, a few plantain chips fried in peanut oil once in a blue moon will probably not really harm you. Just eat some sardines or take some fish oil to balance it out.

Thanks.....thanks pretty much what I figured. If I get campechana, I'll just eat it with a FORK!

Homemade plantain chips friend in tallow, coconut oil or lard are definitely primal. High-carb, but then so are fruits in general.
Once you or someone else fries them in vegetable oils, they become quite unhealthy.

Eating at a restaurant should be considered a cheat, always, period. Just enjoy your food and don't stress about it.
